Stereoscopic 3D has been touted as the next big thing for racing games – indeed Sony claims 3D gives gamers a "competitive edge". But for one upcoming racing game the tech does more harm than good – and can even make you feel sick.
The game is DiRT 3, the rally racer from Codemasters, which supports stereoscopic 3D only in a basic way on PC - and not at all on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Chief game designer Paul Coleman explained to Eurogamer why.

A whole host of Codemasters games are on sale until the 26th of this month on Steam. DiRT Rally is on sale with a generous 33% off mark up, which makes it a bargain! You can also get your hands on DiRT 3 Complete Edition at 50% off, DiRT Showdown at 80% off and even the original Colin McRae Rally at 80% off if you fancy going “old skool”.
Other sale items include the F1 series, Grid series, Overlord and Operation Flashpoint, along with a few other titles. If you have missed the opportunity to play any of these games in the past then now might be the time to give them a go.

Other rally titles have come and gone, with SEGA Rally presenting a fantastic current-generation rally experience but failing to achieve the commercial success of its predecessors, and the recent WRC 2 – the Official Game being overshadowed somewhat by Codemasters’ success with the original DiRT 3 release. Electronic Theatre Image That success was benefit to an extended marketing plan with a cleverly devised selection of downloadable content (DLC) packs intended to extend the life of the videogame.

The Polar Gaming Kit consists of three projectors, screen, graphic card and Warpalizer software for warping and blending. The screen is 2.84 meter wide and 75 cm high. It’t perfect for all kinds of PC gaming as shown here with DiRT 3 of Codemasters
I was going to go with something like this when I put my setup together a couple months ago but I prefer the illumination, razor sharp detail and vibrancy of back lit displays vs projectors. I have a top of the line 1080p projector in my basement theater and it doesn't compare to my Samsung D8000 LED's. My projector is slightly faster for gaming but not for dynamic lighting, vibrancy, illumination and fine details.
I do love how the projector completely eliminates the bezels but mine are barely 1/2" wide (main reason I went with the models I did, smallest bezel on the market) and you don't even notice them using the cockpit view. Usually the supports for the windshield run directly over my bezels.
The immersion level of either setup is just unreal and blows everyone I have shown it too in person. If only consoles support this technology. No more camping corners in shooters.
I say the more 3d the merrier...as long as its not mandatory.
Last evening I played Stardust HD & Pacific Rift in 3D. Absolutely AMAZING. Hope more games will follow.
Have you seen played dirt 2 on the PC in 3D? Water and mud flying in your face when you drive over puddles. Seeing dirt kicking in your face as driving on a dusty trail. If anything 3D will more of a reason to buy this game.
Lol. 3D isn't helpful at all. Nothing comes towards you in the first place if you drive like you should. Unless you crash...
