Battlefield 3 boss: “You don’t kill CoD by trying to be CoD”

Kertz said in the Twitter Q&A session that “you don’t kill CoD by trying to be CoD. You kill CoD by making a better shooter.”

During a Twitter Q&A session, Kertz also said it’s unlikely there’ll be a server browser for console versions of the game, which probably means due to technical reasons this will be cut the number of players from 64 – confirmed for the PC version – to 24, although Kertz wouldn’t confirm or deny these figures.

Isn´t that what EA did with Medal of Honor?
We use kill streaks cough score streaks.

NecrumSlavery5586d ago

MOH Teir One was actually made to give a realistic view of what Delta does down range. COD is moving towards a fiction movie feel. Two different things. Going Modern wasn't following COD, it was just getting away from the old wars. Which on the other hand is funny because Blops is going backwards in time, but millions of people still flock to it.

BattleAxe5586d ago (Edited 5586d ago )

If Battlefield 3 doesn't offer more content than BC1 + 2 offered when they released, then it won't be taking any crown, but rather it will earn a dunce cap.

Istanbull5586d ago

No matter what you guys say, Im starting to love EA, Medal of Honor was great, enjoying Dead Space 2, can't wait for Battlefield 3!

Inside_out5586d ago (Edited 5586d ago )

Nothing is going to kill COD this gen...let alone Battlefield. Battlefield has a different demographic than COD BUT they have become a COD wanna be trying to get that fan base...never gonna happen with tanks and helo's. COD is fast and loose with elements of that game play.

EA and Dice are going head to head this November, along with a couple other high profile games for the top prize...let the gamers decide what they want. My money is on Sledgehammer, Infinity ward and the MW2 60 fps Id game engine.

64 players for PS3 COME ON PLEASE!

Vorgier5586d ago

lol ikr

Oh... you were serious.

theonlylolking5586d ago

I agree. Dice cant suck that badly that they cant do 64 players on PS3.

evrfighter5586d ago

^^^ ps3 must suck really bad that it can't handle more than 24 players in full destructible enironments.

FOXDIE5585d ago

evrfigheter!

What about resistance 2? what about mag?
now go back to the tine hole you came from!

fullmetal2975585d ago (Edited 5585d ago )

Its true. Consoles can't render all that destruction and explosions set by that many players all at once. If you compare and compare the console and pc of the game then you'll notice the battlefield chaotic and hectic on the PC.

Sure... I hate MOH as much as I hate COD but Battlefield BC2 is way better than either of them, and you fail to realize that games aren't just one company... one game... every time.. ESPECIALLY with a company like EA. EA is a sponsor for a lot of different gaming genres. EA/Maxis EA/Sports EA/Games, and the partnerships with tons of other game dev companies. So when MOH was made, it doesn't necessarily mean that DICE was in complete control of what was put into the mulitplayer aspect of that game, So you can blame whoever you want, but if he did say something like that... you have to remember that this man is in full control of the Battlefield franchise. Not the MOH franchise.

frostypants5585d ago (Edited 5585d ago )

Um...regarding the article summary...what does the presence (or lack thereof) of a server browser on consoles have to do with the number of supported players? That's two completely different issues.

Regardless I like where this guy's head is. He gets it. You don't beat the competition by copying it. You beat them be completely outdoing them.

visualb5585d ago

don't worry battlefield 3 boss, Activision killed CoD years ago

now its an empty shell raking in money from the masses

awiseman5586d ago (Edited 5586d ago )

No sh**!

but then again MOH did exactly that and ended up in a mess. But BF and Crysis are looking to be some srs competition for COD.

-Alpha5586d ago (Edited 5586d ago )

Crysis looks like COD IMO, or at least has obvious influences. I haven't heard much on how it plays though

Battlefield does not need to be COD. It needs to be Battlefield. It's proven that the name has a big fanbase.

I don't see why any game needs to be as big as COD. I've always thought Battlefield was a huge name anyway.

So long as you can find players to play with I can care less for COD-like sales. I wish devs would understand COD exists and serves its fanbase and that they simply need to serve their own fanbase without trying to be like COD.

The only killing I want to see is in the game

Raf1k15586d ago

I wish Gorilla Games stuck with the fomula they had for Killzone 3. From what you wrote it seems following CoD didn't work out too well.

Biggest5586d ago

What did he say? I don't see Call of Duty in Killzone 3 at all. I can't think of one similarity actually. There are no killstreaks. The movement feels different. The classes are different. The settings are different. I have no clue what you're talking about, Raf1k1. Alpha-Male22 changed his comment so you'll have to clarify.

Raf1k15586d ago (Edited 5586d ago )

Sorry, I meant his blog about the K3 beta.

He went into quite a bit of detail about the changes made in K3 compared to K2 which don't seem to great as I was a big fan of K2s identity.

RememberThe3575585d ago

Alpha by his nature is critical. He tells you what HE sees. I was a huge fan of Killzone 2 as well and I'm loving the open beta. I have concerns about the maps that he mentioned, but the other stuff I didn't agree with.

I don't mind the TSP system at all. I had way more of an issue with stupid people waiting spawn grenades in horrible places. I also don't have an issue with the health in the beta so far. I like that bullets actually do damage. There are some issues that he had that I agree with but nothing that has ruined the experience.

At this point it comes down to preference. We all knew changes were going to come and from what I've seen so far it's for the better.

Battlefield 3 boss: “You don’t kill CoD by trying to be CoD” i hope your listening Guerrilla Games lol.

VenomProject5586d ago

WOW, that was seriously a fail troll attempt.

Killzone 3 is NOTHING like CoD.

--------5586d ago

-

Throw a well known 'pro' COD clan into a Killzone 3 match against an organized KZ3 clan, and the KZ players will destroy them.

Switch it around and have the clans go head to head in a COD match and the same thing will happen. I've played both for years. COD is point/shoot/move - it requires literally no strategy whatsoever, because it's just way too easy.

I don't care how many Disagrees I get, Killzone requires a certain amount of skill and intelligence that is just nonexistent within the COD fanbase.

You can't run down a hallway with an SMG and kill 3 people, pick up a sniper rifle, then dolphin dive out a window and 360 no scope some-one across the map in Killzone - and you couldn't in real life either, you need to use your head.

I'm a big Killzone 2-3 fan, and a big Modern Warfare fan - and I only play the latter when I'm tired and bored, because it's just that easy.

Ducky5586d ago (Edited 5586d ago )

^ and you're saying that the KZ clan would destroy the CoD clan based on...? O.o

In my experience, throwing either clan into a game they don't play will lead into them getting slaughtered. This is based on my experience of playing with people across different games on the PC.

Slower-paced games such as Killzone rely on positioning more than hand-eye co-ordination or reflexes. Faster-paced games shift the emphasis around.
You can argue that Killzone requires more intelligence since you can't run around mindlessly hoping for your reflexes to bail you out, but saying that it requires more skill would be silly.

Most competitive (i.e. pro) games are unrealistic. Games like Quake, Doom, UT, TeamFortress, and even CounterStrike allow you to do things which wouldn't be possible in real-life. You still have to use your head though; You still have to decide whether picking a sniper rifling or jumping out the window is a favorable course of action.
Most clans, no matter what game, have players that aren't the mindless pub types.

Anyways, Killzone and CoD might share some aesthetic similarities, but they play differently.

--------5586d ago (Edited 5586d ago )

-

Tell me you're not one of those idiots who cries on the forums because they removed a known problem with the controls - lag.

Killzone is nothing like COD, apart from the fact that they both feature soldiers with guns.

Wait for the Disagrees from grown men who've played KZ2 for 2 years and given themselves the title of 'veteran' LOL.

belal5586d ago (Edited 5586d ago )

hmmmm, you mention killzone 3 similar to cod? wtf are you high or something, killzone is not like cod, killzone has : much bigger maps, heavier feel, you move like you actually are equipped with wepons, ammo heavy cloths and boots. the award system is better, you need a numbers of kills to get ribbons/killstreaks much better than the killstreak system in cod. and best of all, every gun in killzone is good at it's own way, that means that you don't need a favorite unlike cod where like 95% of the time it's either famas,ak or mp5k.The perk system in kz3 is much better than in cod.

overall Killzone 3>>>>>>>B FBC2>>>>>>&a mp;gt ;COD

-Alpha5586d ago (Edited 5586d ago )

GG has taken obvious influences from COD. But that doesn't mean they are mimicking them.

Hell, so did Bad Company 2 (auto-knife, lower health, an entire perk system, etc)

K3 still manages to feel unique while borrowing aspects that would achieve their goal of getting some new players accustomed to the game.

Personally, I don't see the greater number of COD players liking Killzone until it is completely stripped of what Killzone is known for. People still complain about the weight of Killzone 3. It's clear some people just can't be pleased and IMO they shouldn't be catered to.

BattleAxe5586d ago (Edited 5586d ago )

WTF is auto-knife? You've clearly never played BC2, because people always complain about the knifing not killing people on the first or second swing.

-Alpha5586d ago

I've played BC2 tons of times :/

What I mean is that in BC1 it was a weapon you pulled out as opposed to a button you press. This was to the disappointment of some BC1 fans who felt they were just trying to make knifing easier.

shoddy5586d ago

fps all similar especially same gun and army. Cosair, melee, killstreak, grenade, vehicle.
They are just in the same world.

What do people expect differently? Saying copy this copy that.

KZ3 have best melee kill though, take out the eyeballs, cut throat.

Battlefield 3 Cut Missions From Campaign Detailed by Former DICE Dev

Battlefield 3's former Lead Designer has revealed that there were two cut missions from the main campaign

XiNatsuDragnel501d ago

I wish someone can get those EA game leaks to see all the cut content ngl

anast501d ago

Get rid of campaigns, move the game to mobile, and try to compete with warzone. They would save time and money.
