How to Enable AA in Dead Space 2

One of the reasons the game is easy to run is because it employs a relatively simple version of anti-aliasing (AA) called edge-detect AA. This method of AA only applies its effect to areas on the screen where it detects a distinct difference between two different colours. The algorithm calls this area of distinct colour-difference an edge, and then applies anti-aliasing to just these areas of the screen.

I was really excited about Dead Space 2 seeing how I played Dead Space 1 but I refuse to buy this console ported piece of shit. It's a dam shame the Devs didn't even bother to put video options or settings in the dam menu and they didn't even bother to optimize the dam game. How lame is that?

They ported this crap directly from the 360 and tacked on KB/M support and they want me to pay $60 bucks for this? Would the Devs buy a brand new car for full price that is missing tires, engine, paint, transmission? No they wouldn't. So I guess when DS2 gets pirated all to hell then they will bitch and complain.

Now I see why the PC version had no demo because this game was total crap with sub-par quality.

BK-2015577d ago

There are video options in the menu, just not as indepth as say... crysis. Honestly it looks good enough on PC for a multiplat.

VenomProject5577d ago (Edited 5577d ago )

Actually, I think the Dead Space games are developed on the PS3, the first one was anyway.

@phantom disagrees

A few years ago, EA themselves stated that they were switching over to the PS3 as the lead platform for almost all of their games. FACT.

despair5577d ago

you don't have a clue what you're talking about, DS 1 on the PC was sluggish like hell, but DS2 plays phenomenally and while its not the best looking game out, it still looks and plays very good. I've been playing the PC version at a friend's house on max settings and I'm now looking to get the game myself.

Sarcasm5577d ago

Yeah Dead Space 1 had a bug when Vsync was turned on, it affected the latency of the game. But you can play it with Vsync off and it will be reponsive. Except I know that it tears like a mofo and I honestly don't like it that way. So yes Dead Space 1 had that problem.

Dead Space 2 however, they finally addressed it. And anybody complaining about it being a "console" port needs to calm down. It looks fantastic on my PC in 1080p with max settings.

The only thing is that it forced edge detect AA instead of letting us force other forms of AA. This article addresses that issue and gives us a workaround.

But come on, who's to complain about a console port when it runs 60fps+ on your PC?

WhiteNoise5577d ago (Edited 5577d ago )

@despair

If you can't figure out a *5 second* fix for the vsync issue then it's time to trade i the PC fr a console.

DS1 AND DS2 both lock to 30hz with vsync on. It is a bug, how they made the same mistake twice, I do not not, but forcing vsync through thr driver makes the game incredibly responsive and the game works amazingly on PC with either a mouse and it also has gamepad support which I tried and it was surprisingly ok.

People who say it was sluggish clearly don't think for themselves.

Hmmm, the game has an unlocked frame rate with vsync off, but with it turned on in game it locks to 30 frames, gee, I wonder how I could fix that

/facepalm

despair5577d ago

@WhiteNoise

I never said I didn't know how to fix the frame lock problem, I disabled the in game vsync and forced it in my Nvidia control panel, easy fix to get full 60FPS. So don't go assuming anything, and in case you didn't realise I also said that DS2 plays better and that is at 60FPS on both(had to do the same thing for DS 2 like you pointed out).

I found DS1 controls more sluggish than 2 on the PC and on the two demos on PS3(tried both one after the other). Please read what I posted first before getting defensive or at least insulting at something you made up in your head(or at least inferred). Here's returning the insult.

/facepalm

IaMs125577d ago

Uh actually it does go a little more in depth if you open your eyes. Put it onto Custom Settings then you get to change it all!

ProjectVulcan5577d ago (Edited 5577d ago )

Have to agree with the sentiment that these are poor ports. Add the fact that if you enable Vsync which of course you would EXPECT that in a PC game the default framerate caps to 30 frames. Frankly preposterous when any decent gaming PC will trounce these games and run 60 frames comfortably vsynced.

You can get around these problems but thats really the point isnt it? A good port would not HAVE these problems in the first place. Yes, they might be standard for consoles, but on PC, these are problems!

I had hoped nvidia would come to the rescue with a driver profile in these games. Im pleased with Nvidia's support of AA in Unreal Engine 3 games. It makes a lot of difference in stuff like Mass Effect, Bioshock etc

Sillyace925577d ago

Well be thankful that it's on your platform at all, they could have easily just left PC gamers to rot, but they did make the game available.

ATiElite5577d ago

I'm not thankful for a crap port, they could of not made it as this only wasted resources and time from other projects that could of been made with quality.

Dead Space 2 is no Half Life or Starcraft 2 so I'm sure Pc gamers won't rot. Understand your point but the lack of quality in any title on any platform is the point of this rant.

For $60 bucks you think developers would put forth more effort. It's almost Pre-Nintendo "quality seal" days when Nintendo games had low quality like what is trending in the gaming industry AGAIN.

There are the in game options you soapbox tool.

The game has as many options as any exclusive game and the visuals/performance ratio of DS2 is better than 99% of game out right now.

"They ported this crap directly from the 360 and tacked on KB/M support"

Says someone who has clearlty not played either game. There is a vsync bug where the game locks to 30hz with in game vsync on, a 5 second fix makes controls extremely responsive.

lol @ the sub par visuals comment. Again from someone who has not played the game

Railing against multiplats only makes you as bad as console fanboys and you are an embarassment to PC gamers.

Feel free to only play the 5 PC exclusives a year worth owning while every other real gamer buys the good games regardless of their e-peen status of exclusivity.

Make sure you boycott

Crysis 2
Rage
Brink
Bulletstorm
Dragon Age 2
Bioshock Inifinite
Mass Effect 3
Deus Ex HR
Dirt 3
Homefront
Batman Arkham CIty
Doom 4

Because multiplats are EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVIL

despair5577d ago (Edited 5577d ago )

lol wow I actually agree(somewhat) with you here.

WhiteNoise5577d ago

I'm glad you agree.

The best looking game on PC right now is a multiplat (metro 2033)and most of other best looking games are also multiplats.

Eg. Lost Planet 2, Resident Evil 5, Just Cause 2, Dirt 2 etc etc.

Exclusivity doesn't ensure better quality ( starcraft 2 only uses 2 threads and doesn't have in game AA )

XabiTheHumble5577d ago

No disrespect but bulletstorm is ass.

ATiElite5577d ago

Multi plats are evil unless the PC version was made first and utilizes DX11 Like the upcoming Battlefield 3.

Of that list I'm only interested in 2 titles, Doom 4 because John Carmack has said Doom 4 PC will surpass Rage PC in terms of ID Tech 5. Bioshock Infinite because of the game play.

EA Shoots Down Dead Space 2 Remake Rumors: 'No Validity to This Story'

EA has shut down rumors that EA Motive considered a Dead Space 2 remake before shelving it due to low sales of the previous game, saying there's "no validity" to the reports.

XiNatsuDragnel764d ago

Sure.... right.... at least remake dead space 3 w/o microtransactions bs.

XiNatsuDragnel763d ago

I sometimes I wished I didn't Ngl lol

Knightofelemia763d ago

Why not remake DS2 whether shot down or not it's still my favorite game next to DS1. As much as I hate EA I would buy or would have bought DS2 day one.

MeteorPanda763d ago

No validity XD "Guys guys, we cant possible make a good game or cater to the gamers wants, stop"

Yi-Long763d ago

I don't know if sales met their expectations or not. I just know that the high review scores received my attention so I was interested in buying it, but its price stayed high (50+ bucks) for so long that I simply never bothered picking it up.

Tacoboto763d ago

Doesn't pay full price
Doesn't pay *any* price
Ponders if sales met expectations regarding an allegedly canceled sequel.

Gee...

Yi-Long762d ago

Well, for starters, I'm sure there are plenty of games I never bought which did, somehow, still, meet their sales-expectations.

Concerning Dead Space; I never played and thus cared for the original. It's in multiple genres (shooter, sci-fi, horror) I don't particularly care about so it was barely on my radar pre-launch. I was never its target-audience.

When reviews hit, and it was scoring big, it gathered my interest, so while it wasn't in my field of interest, it mrans that I wanted to give it a fair shot and at least give it a try, as I do with many games across different genres; I tend to just cherry-pick the good stuff and see if it's for me or not.

But, I do wait for sales on those games I take a risk on.

Kornholic762d ago (Edited 762d ago )

Lol, you are a huge part of the problem. If a very high-quality game is not even worth 50 bucks to you, then what is?

13 Years Later, Dead Space 2 Is Still A Perfect Video Game

Nameer from eXputer: "Dead Space 2 is a sequel that delivers such a feast that by the time you're done, you're not only full but also satisfied."

Aaroncls7783d ago

It was amazing. All 3 DS games game solid for me, but 2 was special.

hombreacabado783d ago

i can do without ds3 but the first two are solid.

mariopasta783d ago

Hope they remake this one too. Just like they did with number 1. The remake of Dead Space 1 was perfection

Terry_B783d ago

thanks to the digital pass for it it was not perfect..in fact its difficult to find a working copy since many years.

I had no idea that Bad Company 2 was still running, and only now that I know, I want to jump on! 😥

SonyStyled886d ago

I was able to find games in the Vietnam dlc on ps3 the last week. There were articles on here about the server closure when it was announced in April

DaReapa886d ago

BF1943 is the only online MP game that I was genuinely interested in. Been playing since launch 14 years ago. Hate that I couldn't put in as much time to play as I'd hoped for during the final week.

Inverno885d ago

I got really into 43 when I bought Bf3, and preferred it. Everything that I disliked or found annoying about Bf3, wasn't an issue in 43. Too bad they never bothered releasing it on PS4 or PC.

1nsomniac885d ago (Edited 885d ago )

Dead Space 2...... I wasn't even aware that had multiplayer. Nevermind that it was apparently one of their best multiplayers!

anast885d ago

Once people stop buying micros, these companies close the doors.

Xenial885d ago

Dead Space 2 multiplayer had been hanging on for years - I'd boot my PS3 up to see some familiar names in lobbies. This will definitely be missed!
