just bring it on as long its a demon's souls successors.

SnuggleBandit5584d ago

I'm hoping the game is harder than Demon's Souls lol bring on the pain!

JoySticksFTW5584d ago

and Playstation Eye support to capture gamer's fits of rage and frustration :)

Especially death by Black Phantom (other player)break in, if that makes it into the game

Kind of like Burnout: Paradise

ps3rider5584d ago

what about when ever you die, you gona have to repeat the entire game

JoySticksFTW5584d ago

I don't think that you'll have to repeat the entire game if you die.

The interview in the other article referenced "come back points" like the nexus that players can find throughout the world.

That kind of leads me to believe it's almost like an MMORPG bind system, which the player can bind their souls to these designated safe points located near these dangers.

And one thing people forget about is Demon's Souls rarely made you run through the whole level once dead... that's if you've taken the time to explore or open up any short cuts back.

Flamelurker was frustrating until you learn a strategy to beat him. Being able to get back to that fight in about 4 minutes or less if you know the proper route made things a bit easier.

Same thing with Maneater boss-battle. It can be real tough, but it's more easy to swallow when you can just run back to it in under two or three minutes. The stages create short cuts as you go through them. Some are even already there right at the beginning of the stage, as with the Flamelurker example.

In World 4-1 after you fight the first few skeletons right at the beginning of the level, you can rolling flip off the top of the wall, land on top of an incredible ring of regeneration, which is right near a coveted crystal gecko killed to increase your weapons/gear, which is only a few steps to the end of the level and the boss-battle.

And this boss' soul can be used to create one of the best unique weapons in the game btw.

All of this from a game that some say is unreasonably hard or cheap or too punishing. This is why DS gamers say the game is very fair, not all that hard, and is very rewarding. It gives you the tools to succeed. But it's up to the gamer to exercise some patience and common sense. It's not a mindless hack and slash.

And one last DS myth to dispel... when you die, you DO NOT lose all of your hard work.

Yes, when you die you can lose all of the souls that you have accumulated before you get the chance to spend them. It will happen. Heck, it may happen often if you're not careful. But you get to keep all of the items you've found. Great for dragon death runs if you don't have Pure White Tendency to make them disappear :)

And the game will make up for those lost souls with convenient farm points early on. And will later give you the opportunity to access soul multiplier items and spells to farm ridiculous amounts of souls in a few minutes work, in relative safety, and on your terms.

And if you're into PVP, you'll want to stop leveling past a certain point anyways.

Then all you have to worry about is clearing the level. So screw those lost souls. You'll get them back easily.

And lastly, if you're worried about dying or are having trouble passing a certain point -- summon some buddies to help you out

Now this is all assuming that Dark Souls will work like Demon's Souls. I just don't want gamers to be intimidated by either game's difficulty.

I was nervous about DS before it released, because I heard of the notorious difficulty. And I almost passed on it.

Instead I got the collector's edition (LOL!!) and it's probably my favorite game this gen, battling with heavyweights MGS4, Uncharted, and Mass Effect for top honors

I am hoping for more meaningful co-op (this does NOT mean voice chat necessarily) in that you can actually have a co-op session that lasts more than a couple minutes. I am also hoping for more variety in environments and more environmental activity and puzzles. More armor sets are welcome as well.

I personally like how the story was done in Demon's Souls and don't really want Dark Souls to be bogged down with lengthy cutscenes and such, that's not what the game is about. In Demon's Souls, they gave you just enough background so you could piece together the story itself. If anything it made the game more immersive because you really felt like a lost soul in a dark and unknown world.

I'm just glad the "please add an easy mode / make the game easier" idiocy isnt catching up

DragonKnight5584d ago

I suggest we start a movement whereby if they add an easy mode and we see anyone actually use it, we slap them upside the head. Lol. Or, if they do make an easy mode, it makes it more difficult to acquire items and stuff like the White World Tendency did.

JoySticksFTW5584d ago (Edited 5584d ago )

If they want more sales, MAYBE add an easy mode only to be used offline though

Or dye the player's armor pink, or some disgraceful trait to out you

Wait!! I've got it!!

The devs could add a Ying / Yang or a Karma system

You can play it on "easy mode" online only if you really want to... NPC's will be a bit easier, but that will make your game more susceptible to Black Phantom invasions.

Pick your poison, ladies! :)

JBit925584d ago

I totally agree. This is meant to be difficult. Making it easy would ruin the whole point of the game.

Baka-akaB5584d ago

even with a malus , easy mode is no good for the game .

If they had created Demon's Souls with an easy mode accessible in mind (not even the hardest game to begin with ) , levels and gameplay would be affected and designed another way .

It involves more than just upping/downgrading hps and damages . Most of the time games with that choice are catering to the lower denominator , making sure easy and normal modes are easy enough .

It would just be a different game

For the next instalment, or any new IP of RPG, I would sincerely like for the character to be more...aware of his stats, exp that's already in possession of your current character. Kinda like Assassin's Creed if you will. BUT, instead of unlocking equipment, you would be able for instance to grab an enemy, push him into a wall, daze him momentarily...to maybe trip him/her/it when it's charging at you...give more flexibility to the reposite system. I know it must be hell to make, as in development is though, but I guess it'd be a challenge for the devs in a way, that the game and how it works, is a challenge to us.

Just let me sell my weapons this time! And maybe throw in a horse. Day 1.

This feels like the epitome of a 'tepid take'. Dark Souls has always worn its gothic horror influences on its sleeve, it isn't exactly subtle.

"Like it or not its time to agree with me"

DarXyde205d ago

Dark fantasy, I'd say.

Horror is a bit much. Bloodborne is closer to horror.

gold_drake205d ago

mh ur right actually.

dark souls plays around with horror themes without being a straight "horror" game.

bloodborn definitely starts out as that haha.
