Which console will win 2011?

2011 is only five weeks old as of this writing, but already it seems like we’ve got a pretty good handle on how the coming year is going to shape up for videogames. Good enough, at least, to make a bunch of wild, barely founded predictions about which of the four major gaming platforms (Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo and PC) will claim victory in the next 12 months. Not in terms of sales, of course, but in terms of what they’ll have to offer gamers.

So we have a winner.

TheLastGuardian5460d ago (Edited 5460d ago )

Actually they gave the winner to Playstation. With the NGP and more than 20 PS3 exclusives coming out this year, it's a no brainer who's going to win 2011.

As it says in the article, this is not in terms of sales, of course, but in terms of what they’ll have to offer gamers.

FrankMcSpank5460d ago

The way the reviewers are really laying into Sony, I don't see them winning. I see all the GOTY awards going to multiplatform games. LittleBigPlanet 2 was nitpicked to death but still managed to stay in the 90s. KZ3 was torn apart. I will bet that every single PS3 game from here on out will get the same treatment. I am calling it now: Uncharted 3 will have an 89 meta. I don't know how the reviews will go but I am sure they will nitpick everything they can find until they can knock it out of AAA status.

No way can they count the whole playstation brand. Can Windows 7 Phone and Mac and iPhone all be included, then?

@Kon you are a waste of an n4g account

learn to read the articles, no one cares about invalid feedback.

"Not in terms of sales, of course, but in terms of what they’ll have to offer gamers."

But that is a completely subjective argument and an invitation for fantards to go ape$#!+.

In terms of sales it will be PC>Wii>ps360

In terms of games...to each their own.

For me, this year on PC we have the Witcher 2 and Might and Magic Heroes 6.

I have been dying for a new MMH ( formely HOMM ) game for years.

You just can't get games of that type on consoles.

Then there is The Witcher, likely this years RPG of the year.

Of course there are a tonne of multiplat games but that is not a victory for any one 'croup' it is simply good for everyone.

Already bought Dead Space 2

will be buying the above games +
Dirt 3
Brink
Rage
Bulletstorm
Crysis 2
Dungeon Siege 3
Deus EX HR
Homefront.

Rofl I got a disagree, PC game sales last year were 13 billion...it goes without saying that the wii was next. Or do people think PS3 is #1? lolol

GodofSackboy5460d ago

Wut? PC games sell like nothing

PS3 will crush the competition

ATiElite5459d ago (Edited 5459d ago )

Neither of them will win because.....they are consoles. :) sarcasm..

Seriously the PC sells like 30 million units every 3 months. AMD and Nvidia moved closed to 50 million GPU's in a 12 month period. Nvidia was like the best S&P stock for the month of January 2011. WOW makes over a $100 Million every month. Steam will not confirm but the cats out the bag that they made close to $800 Million off of just Steam profits alone. Sims Medieval will move another 15 million units and the PC will continue to be a $100 Billion dollar global business only rivaled by Cars, telecommunications, and medicine while just PC gaming continues to generate over $12 Billion dollars annually on average.

Sure the consoles get all the hype and press (PC never advertises except Blizzard) and the consoles sale a lot of game units but they loose a ton of cash with R&D, hardware manufacturing, and advertisement. Where as PC profits from everything day 1 with limited advertisement.

In before the Sony fanboys.

My vote would go to PC though, simply because it seems to be undergoing a renaissance lately, and this year looks to be no different.

Slimshadyn5460d ago

PS3 simply because of the games. Platforming, racing, FPS, open-world, action/adventure, sports. You name it, Sony has it.

killyourfm5460d ago

Agreed, I've never seen an exclusive lineup like Sony's for 2011 - and this will be what, it's 5th year? The 3DS is certainly going to be awesome tech, but Nintendo doesn't have the games (yet.)

Slimshadyn5460d ago

Yea, I want a 3DS simply for the new Mario kart. I raced a few thousand races against friends on the DS version.

http://www.gamespot.com/ngp...

NGP has the games. How many of them will be out in 2011 well we don't know yet. But lack of games isn't not a problem for the 3DS or the NGP.

Ayer995459d ago

You probably think that just because of the ads, right? Well Xbox and wii can do that to. Don't even mention platforming, because Wii clearly wins that category, even if PS3 has LittleBigPlanet. PS3 does win racing, but open world, action/adventure and sports just equal xbox.

MagicAccent5460d ago

Whichever wins... We lose..

Don't feed the wankers..

Masterchef20075460d ago

You know that people want to. Its always nice to feed the trolls every once in a while but in now way should you piss one off.

MagicAccent5460d ago (Edited 5460d ago )

Pissing of trolls is one of my pastimes.
But that aside. This is still unacceptable Nom nom nom.

stonecold35460d ago

for me it would be the ps3 and the ngp because theres so many exclusives come out this year plus that enough for me to think ps3 already wins 2011 and with the ngp news sony won pretty much this year ?

Best Adventure Game of 2025

VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "While not carrying the same heft it enjoyed long ago, last year was one of the adventure genre's most commercially-successful years in this century. A Telltale-esque adventure eclipsing 3 million sales in three months would be the talk of the town were it not for another adventure game hurdling over 10 million sales in two. Though not all finalists reached those heights, each did share a greater amount of spotlight compared to similar titles within their respective sub-genres.

Past any sales thresholds and popularity contests, 2025 also deserves credit for its creativity; the last time our entire shortlist consisted exclusively of new IPs was for Best Adventure Game of 2020. An impressive year for the genre, with even greater potential ahead."

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown Has Sold 7 Million Units

Bandai Namco announced today that its popular flight simulator-lite Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown has passed another sales milestone.

Abnor_Mal4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

Great game, and deserves all its sales. Ace Combat has always been a great series. I should replay AC7 again for the fourth time.

It’s unfortunate that Ace Combat8 won’t have vr, as the devs felt it would be too much work and they would be essentially making two games.

Would love a release of Ace Combat6 on PlayStation, but I’d be fine with Ace3,4&5 remasters for PS5 with updated tightened controls.

Ozzy240727m ago

Wish Ace Combat 8 was coming to PSVR2 or even make Ace 7 full VR
