Never buy a game at full retail price, and don't be afraid to check out free-to-play games.
If you want to be the biggest budget gamer and have a decent phone for example a Samsung Galaxy s21 or higher class phone, you can do emulation. Samsung Galaxy s23 or higher can even do switch emulation, and some PC emulation.
If you have a modern laptop, you can just about emulate everything.
If you are not comfortable with emulation, then buy a PS5 and play older titles when they go on sale.
Steam's summer sales, GOG has frequent massive sales, too. Epic gives a free game all the time. Damn, I was going to mention Redbox for modern console titles, but they went out of business like a year ago. But seriously, there are a ton of options for gaming on a budget. Crisis Core like games? Hell NO!
ds games? yes. Too bad there is no "classics" or "platinum" kind of labels for this handheld.
psp games? yes, but there are a huge piles of games now available for less than 10$, so it's not such a big deal for the psp.
Whether a game is worth the price or not depends on what the game contains. If you pay 40€ for a handheld game that only offers a couple of hours of gameplay then its a rip. But if it offers 8-10 hours of gameplay then it is worth it. Many handheld games try and justify their price by including a multitude of minigames.
