It's entirely likely that this generation's biggest sleeper hit (at least in terms of critical success) will end up being Demon's Souls. Originally published by Sony in Japan, the game languished - in entirely localized fashion - for a good nine months before finally getting picked up by Atlus and published properly here in the West. By that time, local critics were already discovering what hardcore importers had found out months before: it's good to die.

There are some video game locations which hit you right in the feels. Are these the most emotional places in gaming to visit? Jump Dash Roll counts down 9 destinations in today's feature.

Bandai Namco has released its latest financial report, revealing that the Dark Souls series has reached around 40 million units combined.

Before Elden Ring and Bloodborne, FromSoftware's talents for all things creepy and chilling gave Dark Souls an atmosphere unlike any other.
This feels like the epitome of a 'tepid take'. Dark Souls has always worn its gothic horror influences on its sleeve, it isn't exactly subtle.
In a year with some GREAT games coming out, this annoucement put this game as my #1 most wanted. (And look at the line up this year...espcially for those who are tired of the FPS)
Just a thought, and maybe some others can chime in. I personally am thankful this is not a named sequal to Demon's Souls (and yes, I realize there are some IP issues with Sony).
Not being a named sequal but obvioulsy a true up spiritual successor allows the team to be more innovative and play with different concepts than if it were just supposed to be Demon's Souls 2.
The open world exporation and the melencholy (yes bad spelling) beauty of the world has me very exceited. I'm VERY interested to see how they handle this exploration. In many wRPGs, exploration is merely walking to the location and searching for loot...Yeah, there may be a dungeon or something, but with leveling systems...there is really no risk reward.
Dark Souls could POTENTIALLY, change the very way we think of exploration. Exploration is risky...Exploration is scary...Exploration is tense...You want to go down into that cave? Sure, but whatever down there is going to destroy you and send you screaming at your TV.
My only hope...and really...my only hope...is that the perfect balance of the game remains intact. Us Demon's Souls fans know of Japan Sony's involvment with the first game. The concept and all is all attributed to FromSoftware, but I do believe JapanSony helped streamline some gameplay....If there is any concern about Dark Souls...it is this point.
