Half-Life's seminal gameplay and pacing evolved from 3D Realms' Duke Nukem 3D.
That's according to Duke Nukem Forever saviour Gearbox, which is polishing the vapourware-turned-outlandish-F PS ready for release in May.

Discover 10 timeless video games from the past that remain absolutely playable today. From Chrono Trigger to DOOM, these classics have aged like fine wine!
Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.
Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.
The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.

Half-Life 2 art director and Dishonored designer Viktor Antonov has died aged just 52.
One of my biggest art heroes. His work and vision were truly one of a kind, and he’s been a huge inspiration to my own work. Such a heartbreaking loss.
Remember seeing Dishonored for the first time when it released, fell in love with the art style straight away, so striking! And because of it, still holds up and will for years to come, RIP Viktor
So sad to hear this. I absolutely love the Dishonored series and love the world and art style. It looks great and unique. I'm still hoping for a Dishonored 3
Maybe. Half life is better regardless if this is true or not.
If it evolved from Duke Nukem, then it makes since why we haven't seen Ep. 3 yet.
I kind of agree. For example, Duke 3D had lots of buttons and things you could mess about with or trigger speech. Remember messing about with the can machines and the microwave before you get suited up in the HEV at the start of Halflife?
Bear in mind, this guy was deeply involved in the very good Half-Life spin off games, Opposing Force and Blue-Shift.
I thought Duke Nukem: Forever was delayed for 12 years because the Half Life series kept upping the ante after every release. So I heard anyway.
Thats why I think theyll be loads of Half Life references in this game because of my above comment
I thought it evolved from quake
