Is Killzone 3 A Disappointing Sequel?

Early review scores from major sources have already hit the Internet like a ton of bricks, and the lower-than-anticipated scores beg the question- does Killzone 3 miss the lofty mark?

no it will be alot more better than any fps game this year and i cant wait for killzone 3. peace out ?

the_kutaragi_baka5507d ago

Simple answer, NO. Just look at the first page in this site lol. Makes me feel happy actually, it means the game is gonna do exceedingly well.

roflcopters5507d ago

the fact that the review embargo was lifted, open beta released and N4G is a ps3fanboys dream come true might have something to do with that.

m23455507d ago (Edited 5507d ago )

wow, just wow. it blows my mind to see what lengths people will go to fabricate a story. this is gonna be the talk of the week, huh?

killzone 3's high scores outweigh the negative ones.

blind-reaper5507d ago

@rolfcopters

the whole world is a ps3fanboy dream come true... so many good games so little time, just join the PS3 bandwagon don't fight the feeling.

ABizzel15507d ago

From what I've gather it's a great game, with a great multiplayer, but has a bad story. I didn't think K2 story was great it was more mission based to me, but the game was still amazing, and the KZ3 multiplayer is great so KZ3 is a 9/10 for me.

Inside_out5507d ago (Edited 5507d ago )

.
Well, having taken a peak at the beta, the graphics have definitely been down graded from KZ 2. It's only multi-player but if the game looks like that I have no idea what any one was talking about. The water looks OK but nothing special. As a matter of fact I took a couple shots at it and it look like I was shooting at a flat picture...no reaction at all. UC and Sony have ruined the PS3 with all that background, green screen nonsense.

During E3 2010, many ask if the game was using some sort of cell shaded technique...I can see why they asked. This kinda reminds me of Bulletstorm in that the video's look better than the actual game play...O_o

In regards to the controls...they are alot better this time around.

As for the article title...who knows, the single player/entire game hasn't released yet.

dillydadally5507d ago

I think the reason for the discrepancies in scores just has to do with how much weight the reviewer puts on single player vs. multiplayer. Even though everyone is giving different scores, every review I've read is saying the same thing - singleplayer has issues with story, black loading screens, character empathy, and repetitive sequences, while multiplayer is incredible. (and the weighty feeling is gone) So, if you like multiplayer more, believe the big scores. If you like single player more, believe the lower scores.

ABizzel15507d ago

The beta didn't look as good as I expected either. The game looks kind of grainy, but I think that's because it's extremely compressed. When you over compress audio there's no dynamic range, and everything sounds grainy, and that's exactly how the beta looked. The download was only 800MB, and we know that the levels in KZ2 were 2GB each, and with KZ3 using 3x more of everything we know that this map had to be compressed to ends meet.

Remember KZ3 fills over 40GB of a 50GB Blu Ray, so you'll have to wait until the retail copy comes out to get all your graphical goodness.

nycredude5507d ago (Edited 5507d ago )

Abizzel

So COd, battlefield BC, Vietnam, and all other fps has great stories? All of a sudden fps needs to have the best stories? Since when?

Just another case of Ps3 exclusives held to a different standard.

86 is a bad metacritic now? If we held to this standard there would like 4 or 5 games to play every year.

Lots of hate towards this game. I really don't understand why.

the beta is an 800mg download wtf do you want. Wait for the full game or maybe buy a decent hdtv.

JUST FUCKING PLAY THE GAMES AND STOP ACTING LIKE BITCHES!

this last part of my rant is not for you just for retarded gamers in general.

seen as i havnt played it yet how can you ask me that question???

evilunklebud5507d ago

Have to play it first to find out for myself. Until then, well, we are all just guessing.

evilunklebud5507d ago (Edited 5507d ago )

Agreed with those below.... I think 8.5 is very good score..... if we were talking 5-6 then I'd be a little concerned.

harrisk9545507d ago

How are the scores disappointing???? According to Metacritic, the game stands at 87, with only 2 scores at 70.

BiggCMan5507d ago

EXACTLY. The people that think anything less than a 90 is bad, are either young kids, or biased fanboys. They are the only ones trying to spin an 87 score into something bad. They all think a game needs to score 95 or 100 to be masterful, well its bullshit.

Bobby Kotex5507d ago

and some of my favorite games of all time have metacritic scores in the 80s, and I regularly play crap that is 90+

Philoctetes5507d ago

Agreed. And some of the lower scores are from reviewers that only considered the SP campaign, when most of us are buying it for the multiplayer. If it was somehow possible to restrict the rankings to "mutliplayer only" reviews, it would be solidly in the 90s.

Man In Black5507d ago

It's the same with a lot of PS3 exclusive releases, a lot of doom articles, and reviews that seem to carry ridiculously high expectations, especially compared with a lot of other games (COD).

JoeReno5507d ago

You mean as with most PS3 exclusives. Dooooooom! As if COD sets some kind of bar for anything other than average.

RedDead5507d ago

I disagree with K3 being the best Fps this year, it's definately not a dissapointing sequel, judging from the beta. I think it's better than K2.

Now however Battlefield 3 is coming out this year. Simple as that, it's the successor to Battlefield 2 and Bad company 2. There's a reason Pc is said to be better than Consoles for Fps. Battlefield 2 was it(and counterstrike)

MGRogue20175507d ago (Edited 5507d ago )

Uh dude, Aren't you forgetting Crysis 2?

Killzone 3, without a doubt.. is going to be awesome, but Crysis 2 is also going to be.. well, awesome as well.

I dont know it does loom great and better then kz2, i also play the e3 demo and it have a much fun gameplay.
I just know that this reviewrs are talking B/S and hating.

KILLZONE 3 is great and i dont even have to play the game to know this

ChristianGamer5508d ago

AKA, you just killed your credibility by mentioning that you don't have to play it to know...I mean can fanatism be summarized any better than that?
You need to calm down with the conspiracy theories now. Those that have actually played the game say it is great multiplayer-wise but the story is lacking.
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that the complaint that most ps3 players on this site give for not liking Halo and CoD? They all claim that they'd rather have a brilliant single player campaign over a multiplayer and now that their flagship fps is lacking in story department they say things like "I couldn't care less how short the campaign is as long as the multiplayer is fun"
"who cares about story? It is a multiplayer shooter and that part is fun"
"story isn't that important to me. Multiplayer shines"
Give me a freaking break

yewles15508d ago (Edited 5508d ago )

*goes over to review comment threads to see people scoffing at the idea of the story being worse than CoD*

You want to talk about credibility? ROFLMFAO!!!

AKA5507d ago (Edited 5507d ago )

Why? im a fan of KILLZONE and i have read all the history i could have find of it and i have like every part of it and no loser "hater" is going to tell me that the history in KILLZONE sucks or the campaign.

I had more fun in the 3 levels of the e3 demo of KILLZONE 3 then in the whole MW2 game.

MW1 was great the campaign but MOH or KZ2 were better for me, its just a test thing but this reviews are talking b/s and not reviewing the game for what its:

A top quality very polished game like no other.
if they did not like the history in it that their taste but you dont give a low review because of what you think of the history (just comment about it maybe) its not fair or prof.

Just by looking at the trailers i can see that the campaign will be epic and have some amazing moments .

If you did not understood KILLZONE 2 is becuase you did not play KILLZONE 1 and or have never read noting about Killzone
its great.

is like if i had play MGS4 and hate the game because the history was so confusing but i did soem research and learn the whole plot and like it..

F i did even cry two time in KILLZONE 2, Templar death was really emotional for me a huge KILLZONE 1 fan.

fooltheman5507d ago

I played mgs4 too, without the first three...
and yeah the story is confusing...but it didn't stop me of enjoying this piece of art...

(reminds me that I need to play again...)

visualb5507d ago

your trolling is making all good christians look bad

m23455507d ago

trolling yet again i see. this game must be a threat to your existence that you're crawling over each seemingly negative article. i truly pity people like you.

redsquad5507d ago (Edited 5507d ago )

I have a human evolutionary tool known as "common sense" (try it some time) which tells me that because I played (and still play) and loved KZ1, played (and still play) and loved KZ2 that the odds are VERY GOOD that I will play and love KZ3. No fanatasism, no fanboyism, just extrapolation of my existing feelings and use of that pesky common sense.

On topic: Yet another shameful example of how sad this industry has become. Worse still are the nodding dogs rushing in to bleat their agreement.... shocking.

is sony's free home community disappointing?

is sony outselling microsoft and smashing npd nonsense last year disappointing?

.........

do you really think killzone3 is disappointing?come up with something new.the hate has only made sony, the ps3 and it's fanbase stronger.keep hating and sony is just going to have pull out 4D for the finisher on this crap.and not just bring out NGP.

SnakeMustDie5507d ago

You forgot something

Is blu-ray disappointing?

blackburn55507d ago

Everything Sony does is disappointing. The PSP had 80 million plus fanbase and it was disappointing. GT5 sold 6 million plus units to satisfied gamers and it is disappointing. 16 million people use Home and it's disappointment. KZ3 has barely dropped below an 8 in reviews and it's a disappointment. Sony is on the verge of out flanking the 360 in sales and people still say the PS3 is a disappointment. Maybe people should ask who exactly is disappointed. Maybe it's just you.

fabod865507d ago

hahaaahahahaha! well said man... well said.

There's too many games to choose from

No Metal geat solid 1,2,3,4?
No Resident evil?
No Silent hill?
No Midnight club 3?
No NfS Underground 2?
No Final Fantasy?
No Burnout 3?
No Dragon quest 8?
No Days gone?
No Ace combat?
No Tekken/Soul calibur?......
just from the top of my head

PS1 era was full of great RPGs, PS2 was racing generation i would pick top 200 and even that would be just a fraction.

FinalFantasyFanatic464d ago

30 is way too low over the entire history of Playstation, I just wouldn't be able to narrow it down that much, I would pick 100 at least.

Storm23464d ago

Yeah...really odd list. I get that it is personal preference and I love most of the games listed, but my list would definitely be different. I agree though, it would be incredibly difficult to come up with just 30.

lockedongamer1464d ago (Edited 464d ago )

I only picked first-party titles. Otherwise, I agree!

EDIT: Except for Days Gone, I don't get the love for it but you do you!

Chocoburger455d ago

I didn't like Days Gone either, it doesn't deserve to be on any best of list.

SullysCigar1030d ago

Same. They nailed it with Horizon. The trouble is I also want a new Killzone! Can't I just have it all?!

jznrpg1030d ago

I’m with you I want Horizon 3 , Killzone and new IPs

badz1491029d ago

I have yet to play Burning Shores as I just started Forbidden West (bought at launch, just unwrapped last weekend LOL) and playing on PS5.

man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!

Vengeance11381030d ago

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim1030d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC1030d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

https://www.noobfeed.com/ne...

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

Vengeance11381030d ago

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

solideagle1030d ago

lol you are comparing:

HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

We will see if it surpass original number.

Phoenix761030d ago

@shane, 2 full main games, 2 DLC add ons, 1 VR spin off game, oh and a an official LEGO set.
Not too bad for an ip that's only been on market for 6 years

Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.

I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.

blacktiger1030d ago

thank you fps lover, I'm with you

talocaca1030d ago

Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.

The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.

OzzY-waZZy1030d ago (Edited 1030d ago )

Kinda wish they move on from Horizon tbh.

lukasmain1030d ago

They are probably working on mutiple projects. One of them is Horizon 3, but another is a multiplaer game and probably somehting else.

Imalwaysright1030d ago

There were rumours that they were working on a Socom reboot.

Killzone 3 is playable with mouse & keyboard on PC via RPCS3 & KAMI

Still looks secure 2 gens later... one of my favorite ps3 moments. With 3D and move the game is on another level

MadLad1781d ago

PC almost always ends up the best place to play games, even if it takes a while.

What would you rather play decades down the line? A game at a fixed resolution and frame, considering you have a working disc, and the hardware?
Or run it on an emulator that can update the experience all around, and let you use whatever control input you prefer?

If you insist on the former, it's really only for the sake of nostalgia.

Applejack1781d ago

I disagree. The main draw for consoles has always be the simplicity of just putting the disc in / downloading it and playing without worrying about anything else. The average person just wouldn’t want to deal with emulation even though it’s very important for preservation.

Terry_B1781d ago

Even emulators are super simple to use.

jukins1781d ago

Youre getting flak because people on here thibk of themselves as pc wizards. But honestly most poeple try and go get emulators and romz they end up with malware.. yes theyre "easy" if you know the basics but alot of people dont. That said the fact that its taken nearly 20 years to get a sustantially better experience for ps3 games than on its native system shows the complexity of getting bc to work. Sony, if they have any intention, should just invest in a vastly better psnow experience.

1781d ago
Vegamyster1781d ago

jukins

Most people who emulate don't get malware, you'd have to be going to some weird sites for that to happen, heck years ago people were getting sketchier ad's resulting in malware warning on this site if you didn't have a ad-blocker lol.

SinkingSage1781d ago

Can't get malware if you legally dump your own games, which you should.

Rachel_Alucard1781d ago (Edited 1781d ago )

That's fine if that's the main draw, but it doesn't make it a better experience, just a preference. Having the freedom to do the things you can do on PC is what the appeal of PC is. Buying a game on PC means you never have to worry about the console makers just deciding the next hardware shouldn't support the generation anymore, which means everything you bought is stuck on that hardware instead of moving up with everything else. Nintendo uses this tactic to keep reselling the same games over and over at inflated prices. Sony cut all previous gens off the PS4 and sold it back to people in a poor attempt with PSnow. While the PS5 supports PS4 games, that may not be the case in the next gen after this. No to mention shutting off all the previous stores and updates completely. Even MS stopped making new BC titles at some point, so now there's a big list with 17 pages of titles that are not playable on Xbone and are just trapped on older gen. That's not a problem on PC, the reverse happens where you only have to worry if your hardware can play the newest releases at ultra with no issue.

Shhh don't say that aloud! You're going to trigger a lot of console infidels here.

Shane Kim1781d ago

I rather play it when it's available then wait 10 years.

MadLad1780d ago

Did you purposely miss the entire point of my post?

Inverno1781d ago

Well that's the beauty of still owning a retro console tho. Those who usually complain about emulation are just being blindly loyal to a company. Emulation is great for many reason, but if I still owned the console then I disagree nothing beats plugging it back in and going down a nostalgia trip
