Good move by SEGA and Capcom if true.

Sony has been the market leader for over 10 years now - they are not just going to fold their tent and go home. They are getting spanked now (in the U.S.) but they will get the installed base up. Another price drop is coming and I'm sure there are many cards yet to be played.

This xmas belongs to Microsoft though. There is just no game (other than MGS) that can command such fevered interest in the market.

So buy both systems so you can enjoy all the best games now and in the future. If you don't have enough money, then get a better job!

I did not purchase a PS3 for Halo 3. Sony has never had Halo, what could be the big deal? 360 publishers should be scared that Halo 3 multiplayer will keep 360 owners from purchasing and playing their games. PS3 has pure heat with my most anticipated titles Uncharted and hopefully Unreal Tournament 3 this fall, and you know the heat Sony has next year so....And capcom is multiplatform this gen anyway, they better not pull a devil may cry 4 again! It's exclusive...no it's not...yes it is...what a headache! Make whatever it is for PS3 and 360, it is the fair thing to do! They owe PS3 one exclusive though.

i hate it when people are saying that the Playstation 3 is a failure, when it doesn't even have one year. in 10 months the ps3 has sold 5 million units which is very good. x box has 2 year going on its third and it has sold 10.5 million units. And then they say that the ps3 has no AAA title, but they dont seem to remember that it took 360 a whole year until it first AAA title came out. the Ps3 doesnt have a year yet. But on november 24 drake uncharted is going to come out and that will be the ps3 first exclusive AAA title.

Sega might be waiting for the Halo 3 effect but I believe Capcom made it's decision on next-gen long ago. They have released all their games for 360 and have had 2 successfull 360 exclusives so far. With DMC4 and RE5 no multi titles, it's pretty obvious that Capcom is with MS this round of console wars.

Maybe Capcom and Sega are waiting to see how well Halo 3 does so they'll start to concentrate on making fps games. To be honest I bloody well hope not! There are enough damn fps's out and coming out already and I reckon it would make the gaming market VERY stale.

I STILL don't understand what this Halo 3 fuss is about and I enjoyed Halo 1 immensely! Especially when things like Bioshock, Unreal Tournament 3, Crysis and Call of Duty 4 are out or are coming out. To be frank, I don't think Halo 3 is gonna sell a substantial amount of Xbox's in the near future because I reckon if you really wanted Halo and were a huge fan, you would already have bought an Xbox,which is what most fans already have done. It's beyond me why MSFT would even alow with-in their power for Lost Planet 2 and Dead Rising 2 to go to PS3.

I don't even think those two games would be the same graphiclly on PS3 I hope they didn't get far in development with those titles with PS3 in mind LP and DR are graphiclly advanced I would hate to see dumbed down titles or held back titles.

They know that Halo 3 can turn the 360 to a standard that can not challanged for the rest on this generation like GTA for PS.

Remember Its not just Halo 3 although its going to lead the charge with sales its Ace Combat, PGr4, Naruto, Multi platform games, sleepers and other exclusives like KUF/COD and Mass Effect that will amplify the Halo 3 effect by 3 fold. This will countine through 2008 with games like Lost Odyessy, Too Human, Splinter Cell, Alan Wake etc.

This isn't going to be a simple case of an Halo 3 spike in sales only lasting a few months after Xmas, Halo 3 will continue to push while other AAA's are being releases for the rest of 2008. This is what Capcom and Sega must see and Halo 3 will bring a continuous shopping season starting now lasting months after Xmas.

Point of reference is that I own a 360. That being said, I still think that Microsoft's numbers are falsely inflated for console sell through. Some of those numbers will reflect replacement consoles for the defective consoles.

As for Sega and Capcom holding development...I just don't buy it. To be honest if Sega closed it's doors today I wouldn't shed a tear for them. They have been releasing shovelware for years. Capcom is another story. They have great franchises and are a strong developer.

I also dont think that the sell through for new 360's is not going to be nearly as high as analysts think. Considering the strategy MS adopted of all but abandoning the original Xbox with the release of the 360, the true loyalists have already bought the console. This is also evident in the pre-orders for Halo 3. Someone who does not have a 360 would not put in a pre-order. This is THE game release for the 360. If this does not spur the sell through that is 'expected' I would be worried if I were MS. This would indicate saturation.

Now consider Sony. They don't yet have a killer app released yet. Additionally they are still milking their roughly 100+ million user base. Once a true AAA is released and some of those PS2 users start migrating, I think we will have a true insight into this war.

Sony's showing at TGS left much to be desired (Kaz needs to wake the fock up), but it is gaining ground in Japan.

I live in the U.S. and love my country but in the world of videogames Europe and Asia really matter. Sony may lose a larger part of their market share in the U.S. but MS will NEVER be as popular in the rest of the world (it's an American company, remember. The EU (huge anti-trust decision held up last week) hates MS!) Wii is a wonderful fad that will pass into obscurity over time and when FFXIII, MGS4, GT5 hit, the rest of the world, particularly Asia, will stop sitting on their hands and start buying PS3's. Wii will still be fun to have around but companies like Capcom, Namco, Sega, Square will also start shifting their priorities. No doubt, though, in the U.S. the 360 may hold off the PS3 for a few years.

I imagine that a lot of companies do try to avoid releasing their games around the same time as a major blockbuster. I wouldn't want my game hitting the shelves at the same time Halo 3 does. Also, if Halo 3 moves a lot of systems this holiday it could make a huge difference for a developer with limited resources when trying to decide what platforms to release games on.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.
