Although I never could get into any of the SFIIxxxx's no matter how hard I tried, your statement does bring back countless memories from high school, when I'd often kill my lunch time at one the local pool halls/pizzerias. I remember the incredible crowds that would gather 'round those SF machines.

But Mortal Kombat is what personally did it for me. I specifically remember the first time I saw and played the first one.

It mesmerized me right off the bat! It also brings me back to the release day for MKII for Sega Genesis. I can't count how many video stores I scrambled to on that day, until I finally got a hold of a copy, which I ultimately played to death.

Ah, good times...good times indeed!

Yeah, the "SNES" part stood out for me too.

I noticed that the story's respective image shows blood in the scene...but I could swear I remember some sort of issue with the Nintendo version infamously not having blood, while the Genesis version was just a splendid little gore-fest!

Is my memory playing tricks on me?

Actually, I've yet to play a game of Soul Caliber. When I picked up my Wii near launch, I was excitedly scooping up whatever I could for the system, including a used Gamecube copy of Soul Caliber IV(???).

Unfortunately, I haven't had the ability to get that game to boot up with my Wii. The disc itself appears fine, but no-go. On the bright side, I managed to get a perfect copy of Metroid Prime and Day of Reckoning for the same low price of $5 each!

(Not that I've been playing them, I regret to admit.)
