I find it kind of odd that the kinds of people who scoffed at MS all these years for charging for XBL are the first ones to throw their money at Sony.

And for what? Themes? Avatars? Betas?

I'm not going to be paying money for stuff that should be free in the first place.

It's worth it if you buy a ton of stuff on PSN. The savings alone add up to pay for the cost of entrance. Not to mention the perks of getting free stuff.

depends on how you look at it. if you are a hardcore gamer, then ya it's worth it. if not then it's not worth the money. in about a month it pays itself off. if you break down the math it's like $4 dollars a month. who can't afford $4 a month??!! i have it and i love it!

I have spent hundreds of dollars on psn but I still don't think it is worth it for me to get psn+. Imo the stupidest and most useless features that are offered in the psn+ program are: early access to game beta's, 1 hour trials of games, and the subscription based time frame of the games that subscribers get for free that are only playable/active during the subscription. The author has some valid points, and the program does offer some decent content and discounts SOMETIMES, but for the most part most of the content that is offered I could care less about.

And like the author said the free content that is decent is deactivated/disabled once the psn+ subscription expires and plunking down another $50 to renew psn+ another year just to get that free content re-activated is a waste, maybe if sony offered that free content at a discounted price to keep it activated indefinitely no matter what before the subscription expires might make the program more appealing. I would also suggest that instead of them offering specific content to subscribers that they should instead let the subscribers choose what content that they want to get at a discount. Also they should offer a "try before you buy" game demo feature for all psn games because all of the psn games do not have demo's.

The suggestions that I previously mentioned would not only make the psn+ program more appealing but also encourage subscribers to spend more money and at the same time weed out the bad games from the good games thus making psn better imo, and then I would more than likely subscribe to the program if those suggestions were implemented into the psn+ program.

For me i just care about playing online. So i stick with PSN basic cause its free. Thought i was going to say XBOXlive didnt you?

PSN+ is a totally different type of service to XBL, so pointless to compare.

When first launched I thought PSN+ was a horrible rip off. But then I applied a bit of logic... I looked at the PSN games I have bought over the last year which are discounted with a PSN+ account... The savings I would have made were not enough to cover the entire cost, but they made a significant dent.

Then looking at the extra features and stuff it added, made me think it was worth it.

Now that 'Cloud game saving' is rumoured to be coming to PSN+ members only, I think it's even better value. Also love the auto-patch feature (even though it should be a standard feature)

I think it's worth it. :) Even if you, like me just check in the PSN+ section every once in a while, and get's stuff you want. :-/

We probably got stuff for around 100$ in November and December alone. :-/

This month weren't that great for PS3 owners.

Free Shatter, is pretty awesome tough, I were jelous when US +-owners got that free last year, but not us Euros, we got it now tough.. So I took advantage of that, since I've been wanting that game for a while..

Mass Effect 2 also got a discount, but EA has priced the download-version allmost double as what the game cost in retail, so that's not worthwile, bought it on Steam when it were released anyway. :P

PSP-gamers should definately concider getting one, I think there were like 7 PSP-games this month, and pretty many last two months aswell.. :-/

let me get this right ps plus is a discount service with a few freebies, you pay 50 quid for discounts, hope the discounts equal the value of 50 quid.

First of all "Number 1 in the world"? Really? Anyway how is it that you write an article based on a product you don't own? "I have friends that have it" What a joke, plus he doesn't mention any of the betas that were given to Plus members or game trials. Whether or not it's worth it is in my opinion a matter of personal preference. I feel it's totally worth it for the freebies and timed exclusives and betas, not to mention the possibility of future features like cloud service or cross game chat.

This clown doesn't know the most basic facts about the service. For instance you don't lose anything that you pay for, anything that was purchased at a plus member discount is yours to keep even if you cancel your Plus membership.

Heck yes it is. I've been able to play well over $50 in games already, and I'm not even half way through my subscription. Every other week is exciting when I have no idea what's in store.

For me it's a mixed bag.

If I bought PS Plus it would be for the betas since Sony is making them fucking exclusive to the premium service.

I bet loads of people cancelled their subscription once the free trial ran out. You have to download an awful lot from the store for it to be worth the price.

Sony have never revealed how many PSN members subscribe to Plus, so it clearly isn't many.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
