Console vs PC - A Battle Not Worth Fighting

The PC vs console argument has been raging on since we can remember, he's another insight into that topic.

Pandamobile5579d ago

The standardized min-spec thing isn't a bad idea, but there's no one to really enforce it in any sort of way.

On the console side, the platform developers clearly don't want to open it up to third party development.

See: Sony vs. Geohot.

thebudgetgamer5579d ago (Edited 5579d ago )

aren't sony and valve doing that exact thing?

edit: im mean sony is opening psn for valve and steamworks.

Ducky5579d ago (Edited 5579d ago )

Valve is doing what? ... not allowing third party development?
O.o

Edit: Hmm, not exactly the same thing. They're allowing a developper to add it's own little suite to the developper's own game.

The Pc doesn't need standardized Minimum specs and it would be STUPID to do so and here's why.

1. INDIE developers who have very little funds but big ideas can't afford to use the $$$$ DX11 engines so their games are built on low spec DX9 engines. A minimum spec standard may force Indie developers into more difficulties in making a game like MINECRAFT which is so low ball spec I'm sure it wouldn't have been made under a "Minimum Spec Standard'

2. If you want a minimum spec standard, go buy a console as the problem with PC gaming is not enough HIGH END SPEC games because of people not upgrading to DX10 (which sucked for developers to program) but DX11 fixed all that.

3. The PC is all about pushing the next level so a minimum spec would just slow down those of us who want tomorrows technology TODAY. Besides the minimum spec standard would just change so much that people would get confused anyway. Every new graphical technique kills another older graphics card. You just don't want developers sitting around designing games around the low end. Most developers look to push the high end every time out and that's why games get better.

4. Crysis, STALKER, Metro 2033, Arma II, X3 Terran Conflict, Bad Company 2 and many other games would not have been possible if the developers were sitting around having to adhere to a standard minimum spec. Arma II and X3 are CPU heavy while Metro 2033 and STALKER are Gpu heavy so it would force developers to all be the same instead of unique in there approach.

Its like saying Human vs God. The creator always wins.

Ducky5579d ago (Edited 5579d ago )

Humans created God.

Religious discussion time!!

No, but seriously, that's not really what the article is about.

Ohh myyy goooood. lol

Corepred45579d ago

LOL that made me laugh. his statement then a user named jezuz answering right after! lol

Consoles will never be open for full modding. DLC milking is way too profitable. The most popular shooters will never even get user created maps. $15 map packs must bring in a fortune considering how easy it is to make a map.

GrumpyVeteran5579d ago (Edited 5579d ago )

Posting in obligatory flame war thread.

(BTW, PC is superior to consoles, always )

Corepred45579d ago

yeah but they always seem to love pointing that out and acting like it makes them better. so i stay away from it. lol

xXxSeTTriPxXx5579d ago

only in the graphics department my friend and mods.care to list anymore ( none superfluous)reasons as to why gaming on a pc is greater then consoles?....

hassi945578d ago

Well there's those 2 things, name 2 things the other side?

I'm not on either side tbh, I'm just curious of the point of your argument.

slyrunner5579d ago

Well it is true, Everything from coding to testing starts from the PC's main frame. But yet, there is no reason to talk about this, I as a gamer have reason for what i play on.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing8d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster928d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit8d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing8d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster928d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
