Visceral: Dead Space 2 is intentionally less scary

Dead Space 2′s creative director Wright Bagwell (who has an amazing name) has revealed that the developers chose to turn down the scare-o-meter for sections of Dead Space 2, after players of the first game found it to be too constantly intense.

Less scary? Man. I wish I could tell.

Tachyon_Nova5610d ago (Edited 5610d ago )

Here is Dead Spaces way of being 'scary'. Walk down corridor, enemy jumps out, kill enemy,, walk 10 metres, an enemy jumps out, kill enemy, repeat 4 times. Turn corner, enemy jumps out, kill enemy, repeat 5 times.

It isn't scary when its so predictable. If you guys think DS is scary, harden up!

hay5610d ago

Depends on person, but that's the reason I stopped playing Dead Space after few hours. Stopped being scary once you realise the scaryness comes from surprise.

bunfighterii5610d ago

What scared me most was the sound.

Like that bit in the elevator when your hear the woman scream, and your wondering if your going crazy or its someone screaming. Then you get to the top and there's that dead person that limps off around the corner, and the whispering voice 'make us whole again'...

That's the kind of shit that scared me.

WhiteNoise5610d ago

@Tachyon_Nova

Or you could not be a jackass and like so many other who watch movies, read books or play games FU<KING USE YOUR IMAGINATION AND EMPATHISE!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's when the games are actually enjoyable, and yes dead space was scary.

Back to COD for you now, I get the impression you don't like to think a lot.

AntoineDcoolette5610d ago (Edited 5610d ago )

You forgot these parts.

*Walk through dark as fvck place, sudden loud static noise from television turning on in front of player, scares sh!t out of player*

*Walks down corrider, Isaac enters hallucination and sudden unexpected noise makes player jump.*

Also I really dislike this whole "developers chose to turn down the scare-o-meter for sections of Dead Space 2, after players of the first game found it to be too constantly intense." quote. That's what made the first great.

I've only played about the first 15 minutes of DS2 to check it out cause I want to finish Extraction first but I do feel the whole, Dead Space 1 was ALIEN and Dead Space 2 is ALIENS (cos faster pace) thing going on, especially the whole running to safety bit when the game starts.

well that sucks. Especially since I didn't think the first dead space was scary. I have to keep reminding myself that I am "old" now and when I was in high school I was playing much scarier games like Silent Hill and the First Resident Evil games.

The people who think dead space is scarier must be the younger generation that doesn't know any better.

Zinc5610d ago (Edited 5610d ago )

Honestly, the first Silent Hill was a completely new experience for video games for me. I remember the first time I walked through the fog/ash in the city and you couldn't see anything... and then the weird noises off in the distance.

If you want to be scared or at least put on edge, play Amnesia: The Dark Descent on the PC. That has many moments where I was truly full of trepidation and on edge.

AntoineDcoolette5610d ago (Edited 5610d ago )

The early Resident Evil games aren't all that scary. Hell, when i was playing RE3 it was using those pop-out boo shock tactics some people complain about in Dead Space. At least Dead Space throughs in a bit of psychological horror. I'll agree with Silent Hill being superior in the scare factor though.

ps3rider5610d ago

I think u are mistaken Visceral this time by making it less scary.

tony67675610d ago

scary or not i love this game

Shane Kim5610d ago

The only games I've found scary from all the time I've played videogames are RE1-3, Silent Hill 1 and Fear 1.

UnwanteDreamz5610d ago (Edited 5610d ago )

Man I remember playing Silent Hill in the dark by myself. That game was twisted. I miss those days. Dead Space 1 and 2 are far more gory but not half as scary.

Fatal Frame was another good one.

JsonHenry5610d ago

Yeah man, the only game I have played in the past couple of years that was scary or creepy was the Pnenumbra games and Amnesia: Dark Decent. If you like horror games try those.

TheDivine5610d ago

Yea fear scared me because of the girl alma. Monsters and zombies arnt scary to me but supernatural sh** like demons and ghosts scare me, creepy sounds that build up to something. Dead space was more of a panicky gam to me trying to run or shoot everything before thy got you.

EA Shoots Down Dead Space 2 Remake Rumors: 'No Validity to This Story'

EA has shut down rumors that EA Motive considered a Dead Space 2 remake before shelving it due to low sales of the previous game, saying there's "no validity" to the reports.

XiNatsuDragnel786d ago

Sure.... right.... at least remake dead space 3 w/o microtransactions bs.

XiNatsuDragnel785d ago

I sometimes I wished I didn't Ngl lol

Knightofelemia786d ago

Why not remake DS2 whether shot down or not it's still my favorite game next to DS1. As much as I hate EA I would buy or would have bought DS2 day one.

MeteorPanda786d ago

No validity XD "Guys guys, we cant possible make a good game or cater to the gamers wants, stop"

Yi-Long786d ago

I don't know if sales met their expectations or not. I just know that the high review scores received my attention so I was interested in buying it, but its price stayed high (50+ bucks) for so long that I simply never bothered picking it up.

Tacoboto786d ago

Doesn't pay full price
Doesn't pay *any* price
Ponders if sales met expectations regarding an allegedly canceled sequel.

Gee...

Yi-Long785d ago

Well, for starters, I'm sure there are plenty of games I never bought which did, somehow, still, meet their sales-expectations.

Concerning Dead Space; I never played and thus cared for the original. It's in multiple genres (shooter, sci-fi, horror) I don't particularly care about so it was barely on my radar pre-launch. I was never its target-audience.

When reviews hit, and it was scoring big, it gathered my interest, so while it wasn't in my field of interest, it mrans that I wanted to give it a fair shot and at least give it a try, as I do with many games across different genres; I tend to just cherry-pick the good stuff and see if it's for me or not.

But, I do wait for sales on those games I take a risk on.

Kornholic785d ago (Edited 785d ago )

Lol, you are a huge part of the problem. If a very high-quality game is not even worth 50 bucks to you, then what is?

13 Years Later, Dead Space 2 Is Still A Perfect Video Game

Nameer from eXputer: "Dead Space 2 is a sequel that delivers such a feast that by the time you're done, you're not only full but also satisfied."

Aaroncls7806d ago

It was amazing. All 3 DS games game solid for me, but 2 was special.

hombreacabado806d ago

i can do without ds3 but the first two are solid.

mariopasta806d ago

Hope they remake this one too. Just like they did with number 1. The remake of Dead Space 1 was perfection

Terry_B806d ago

thanks to the digital pass for it it was not perfect..in fact its difficult to find a working copy since many years.

I had no idea that Bad Company 2 was still running, and only now that I know, I want to jump on! 😥

SonyStyled908d ago

I was able to find games in the Vietnam dlc on ps3 the last week. There were articles on here about the server closure when it was announced in April

DaReapa909d ago

BF1943 is the only online MP game that I was genuinely interested in. Been playing since launch 14 years ago. Hate that I couldn't put in as much time to play as I'd hoped for during the final week.

Inverno908d ago

I got really into 43 when I bought Bf3, and preferred it. Everything that I disliked or found annoying about Bf3, wasn't an issue in 43. Too bad they never bothered releasing it on PS4 or PC.

1nsomniac908d ago (Edited 908d ago )

Dead Space 2...... I wasn't even aware that had multiplayer. Nevermind that it was apparently one of their best multiplayers!

anast908d ago

Once people stop buying micros, these companies close the doors.

Xenial908d ago

Dead Space 2 multiplayer had been hanging on for years - I'd boot my PS3 up to see some familiar names in lobbies. This will definitely be missed!
