Silent Hill is such a promising world when it comes to stories and their presentations. Yet, for some reason, there are some shortcomings to the story and its world.
While there have been attempts to change this around - play Silent Hill 4: The Room, Silent Hill Origins and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories - there still seems to be some issues that pop up. These issues are ones that Vatra, the developers of Silent Hill Downpour, promised to work on.

TNS: “Nightmare fuel to say the least, check out the 10 most terrifying Silent Hill monsters, and what they symbolize.”

A breakdown of the best Silent Hill Characters that inspired and frightened gamers.

The sirens are sounding again, beckoning you back to the foggy ghost town as we rank all the Silent Hill games, from the chilling classics to the misguided missteps.
I mostly disagree with Downpour's position. Yeah, the game is not amazing by any stretch of the imagination but is much better than the HD Collection and Homecoming. The main issue is the performance, but that was mitigated by the patches, especially on the PS3. Personally, I put it a little behind Origins and The Room.
Having Restless Dreams as a different entry from Silent Hill 2 is also a choice.
silent hill 2 is definitely the best one out of those.
for me personally, the whole ritual/cult stuff was always so weird to me in all the other games.
No disrespect but I put SH2 over 1. 1 is fantastic, but 2 took it all up a level.
It's great to hear Vatra wants to fix these shortcomings. How it all turns out will remain to be seen, though.
And the author of the article is right: The Silent Hill world is an amazing one and there are so many great ideas that have been left un-explored. There's so much that can be done with the series, so it's a shame it has ended up with a bunch of genericspin-off titles and a reboot of SH1.

Something that always interested me was that the "otherworld" seemed to slowly be spreading further and further out from the town of Silent Hill itself. As the games progressed, people who hadn't even been to Silent Hill were starting to get trapped in the Otherworld. I always liked that idea and wish it had been further expanded upon.
i have to dissagree with them one the monster part...
you have to have some consistency with the franchise not just the name of the game.
Since its a hellish town you atleast need to bring some monsters back. I personaly love piramid head, hes like a constant demon that reminds you that its a silent hill game, and if you did something bad hes out to get ya.
Just bring back some fixed camera angles like on the original silent hill game, randome sounds that you dont know where there coming(like the piano sounds from the origal game, the girl crying on the bathroom). And more disturbing gore... silent hill 1 for the psx no one came close to you.
