Play.tm: Mass Effect 2 Review

Bugs aside, Mass Effect 2 is every bit as compelling on the PS3 as it was on the Xbox 360 and PC last year. With the inclusion of all the DLC and the juiced-up Mass Effect 3 game engine this really is quite a treat for the PS3 gamers who have been clammering for Mass Effect since the first game came out back in 2007. In a year that will see some of the biggest RPG releases of the current console generation the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2 is an impressive kick off and an epic warm up for the final part of the trilogy which is due this November.

after already playing through it on 360, I just hope the hardcore ps3 fans swallow there pride and play it because its a stunning game.

Ninver5602d ago (Edited 5602d ago )

I'm looking forward to playing it BUT! i hope the game is actually good and not a victim of overhyped media bias. Some say it's very average and the media was desperate to rate a 360 game as high as Uncharted 2.

Hope i'm wrong else that's the last 360 cross over i'll be getting. I don't like being lied to.

No it really is a good game. Played it and beat it myself. PS Uncharted 2 is still the better game imo even if it's a different genre.

hennessey865602d ago

trust me its amazing but u do have to invest some time into the game to get the best out of it.

plb comment is a typical fanboy comment.

@ Hennessey

I've never heard any ps3 only owners say they wouldn't want to play this game because of their pride. Where'd you get that from? If its a great game, people will want to play it.

SpitFireAce855602d ago (Edited 5602d ago )

hennessey86 last time i checked this game was on
PC as well..so what pride are you talking about
its not like the game was 360 exclusive.

Edit:
"There is one final bonus and it is a bit of a big one. Mass Effect 2 for the PS3 has been put together using the same updated version of the game engine that is being used to create Mass Effect 3 making the PS3 version look and feel just that little bit sharper, cleaner and more epic than the Xbox 360 version."

skeletonss5602d ago

really??? more epic???

dont be an asshole fanboy.

hennessey865602d ago

im refering to ps3 owners only so the pc has nothing to do with this.

"Every bit as exciting"
I dont doubt that Ive been playing it for like 8 hours.
I love it, the gameplay, story, characters and everythin genuine about it.

Graphics had a slight improvement.

In the gameplay area there is still room for improvements or rather additional mechanics and tweaks but it works so to speak flawlessly as it is.

What doesnt work flawslessly is the entire game all together.
Ive had 2 major freezes. sounds dissapeared during a cutscene, it is stressing the ps3 when firing it up/loading and when the game seems to load or save it is stuttering.
So Im hoping for a patch to fix this soon cause Im gonna have to avoid playing it if it runs like this.

And I could not find the comic on psn or in the game.
Plz help.

anast532d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine532d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast532d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman532d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast532d ago

Liam lol I can't stand that dude.

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave780d ago (Edited 780d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
