Sony: Core gamers will prefer to use Move over normal controls

So far, Playstation Move and related devices have been associated with a new type of demographic, one that is 'non core'. Although Sony have different believes. Speaking recently, they believe that 'core gamers' will make Move their control scheme of choice, replacing traditional controls.

I got a move for my core gaming needs. It's wicked fun to play shooters with. I'm very stoked about a bunch of games coming for it which are obvious so I won't mention them. Problem is some devs use it improperly.
Eg. One fps I play with it they implemented aiming with it like it's a tps game. Your characters arms and gun move around the screen ala third person which impedes the shooting I would be doing. Just at the wrong time usually the cursor gets to the edge that makes me turn. Ultra lame.

Pixel_Enemy5607d ago (Edited 5607d ago )

I will be using my Move for core games like Killzone 3, LBP2, inFamous, Socom 4 and so on. No doubt about it.

The video review for Killzone3 with Move by iWaggle3D was enough to get my hyped!

At least Sony recognizes the core audience with their motion peripheral ;)

karl5607d ago

as long as everyone has the choice i dont see a problem with it...

i will be using move for killzone 3 .. thats for sure

its a lot more comfortable than the dualshock..

but i get it if most people arent convinced yet and feel this just as another threat from the motion gaming that seems to be swallowing everything we love...

i would just recommend everyone to give it a try.. works really well

AAACE55607d ago

Yeah right... I'll stick with the dual shock 3!

nycredude5607d ago

I'm buying the Sharpshooter to go with move, navigator, 3d tv and Killzone 3! If it's great it will be my goto setup for all shooters.

Redempteur5607d ago

i dunno about infamous 2 but i'll be using move with KZ3 that's for sure ...

BISHOP-BRASIL5606d ago

Definitely going to use Move for SOCOM4 and KZ3 single player and coop, while I may give it a rest on competitive online. I'm willing to try it for InFAMOUS 2, but I can't think of a way to motion control being good in this kind of fast paced action/platformer, anyway good to have the option.

LBP2 however I though it wouldn't support Move, just Sackboy Prehistoric Moves (or whatever it's called)... I couldn't make Move work with the demo, that's for sure, but is the final version supposed to have Move support? If yes that's great news, probably great to go along creation tools!

captain-obvious5606d ago

not me
not interested in motion crap

Ju5606d ago

I don't know. Doesn't work for me in online mode; that is with the game I've tried. Those are MAG and Modern Combat. MAG is a bit better because it plays a bit slower, and the implementation is much better (better customization). But in Modern Combat before I can even think how the controls work, I am already dead. Those games should at least have an option to say "DS3 | Move | Both" so you can chose what kind of game you want to play. Move vs. Move would at least level the playfield until everybody know how to use the controls - otherwise you can even learn how to use them.

nveenio5606d ago

Well, I know I'm buying a sub-controller in time for KZ3 because I'll want it for Sorcery and such, too. I'm not big on holding the Move controller and playing games...I need to get used to it. I think I try to move it too much, it starts to bother my wrist after an hour or so.

BLACKBOIJONES5607d ago

U r right.Same here, i tried the move and i did not like it. Im ok with my normal ps3 pad. Try using move on a FPS online and u will get owned worst than hackers own people in cod.

nycredude5607d ago

I don't think so blackboijones. I am sure GG has done extensive testing of MOVE vs DS3 and they have decided not to segregate the two during online battles. I am pretty sure their results showed there weren't enough of an advantage either way. If you suck you just suck and if you are good then you are just good, no matter what the controls system is. I know people suck ass on fps period, with m&k and DS3.

BeastModeYMOB5607d ago

U sir must suck ass with the move then. Because I've been raping ppl on MAG with it & that game patched in move support. KZ3 was built from the ground up with move in mind. Most ppl don't take enough time to get used to it. Take your time and customize everything to ur liking and i'm sure you will rape with it. Trust me i've did clan matches with move vs ds3 and my move team RAPES! I don't even like using the ds3 for shooters anymore.

Trizard5606d ago

I will 25-0 anyone 1v1 against anyone who uses the move in Killzone 3 (when it comes out) for sure while me using my DS3.

RememberThe3575607d ago

Not me either. But that doesn't mean that wont change in time. People can be so afraid of change that they hate any thought of the future. I haven't even used Move yet but I'm not going to rule out that in the future Move might be a better option than a regular controller. People seem to love Move for shooter and they obviously like it for a reason.

DlocDaBudSmoka5606d ago

you should try modern combat domination. it has move support and its only $8 or $6 for ps+ members.

visualb5607d ago

no we won't sony...no we wont

Ares84PS35607d ago

No, I don't prefer move. It's a nice addition that I put aside after 4 days of playing. But that's it, an extra. No more no less.

Traditional controller for me.

ikkeweer5607d ago

I will use it, but not mainly. It's fun and very usefull to use it for two hours a day maximum. After that my aiming really starts to drop because my arms get tired. MAG is what I used it on, but I don't expect KZ3 to be much different in usage.

Masamori Sumimura5607d ago

Anything to sell a product. We all know core gamers dont give a flying F about motion controls.

HornyHaggis5606d ago

Laughing at disagrees in this thread from angry Move consumers trying to justify their purchase.

KiLLUMiNATi_895607d ago

My Opinion is no wayyyyyyyy for me, even tho move is a pretty good device.

Tachyon_Nova5606d ago

Yeah my experience with MAG tells me that's downright bs

BattleAxe5606d ago

Looks fun, but if I want to pwn noobs, I wont be using MOVE.

Sony seems to think it is easier to sell Move to current PS3 owners than the casual crowd. If they can sell to you guys and get the numbers up, developers are more likely to port some of the wii stuff over and current first party would continue to support it when developing future IP's.

I believe Sony is dead wrong about its core base. People aren't going to all of a sudden stop using a controller for core games, because Sony made the Move. Controller games will be here for a long time to come. I think there is room for both. Some core gamers would love the opertunity to try some motion controll in their fav games, just for a change up. But very few will chose it over the controller they are so familiar with.

Sony needs to make more games that were made specifically for Move. Something where the controller is not the better option.

The-Tentacle5607d ago (Edited 5607d ago )

You don't even own a Playstation let alone Move.

Killzone 3 is about as 'Core Gamer' as it gets and it has full Move support and possibly will be BETTER than a controller. Come back and give your misguided opinion when you have actually tried out a variety of genres using Move to properly determine it's worth.

It's always better to have an option rather than forcing your peripherals onto people. Some will never let go of their controllers just from the genuine fear of change and others will try but maybe not like it and return to the controller. However some will adapt and open up new ways to play that the less open minded would miss out on.

I like options, I like to be in control of what and HOW I play, Move and Playstation 3 offers this to me.

Bigpappy5607d ago (Edited 5607d ago )

I have use the Move on more than one occasion. Thanks for asking.

As to your rant: Where did I say anything about KZ3 not being core? You think I am knocking the Move for saying that people who play core games are not going to give up the controller for a motion wand? Okay, we shall see after KZ3 has been release how many PS3 gamers give up their controllers for "motion controll kill Zone".

I am in no way trying to put a value on the Move, I am purely speaking from a common sense perspective. Having Move implimented in as many games as posible is a good thing. Thinking it will replace the DS3 is a bit presumptuous, if you ask me. It is also PR hype.

I am not trying to take away your Move son. I believe you like it and you should keep it and enjoy it. Stop being so darn defensive when no one is even attacking. Calm down, seriously!

TronEOL5607d ago

No one is complaining about options. I'm all open to options too. But I just don't want this "Move is better" thing to get to Sony's head. We don't need a PSWii.

RememberThe3575607d ago (Edited 5607d ago )

How are you getting disagrees? Are there really that many people who don't like having options?

@Bigpappy: It sounds like you thinking very shortsided. No one is saying that adoption will happen immediately. But if Sony proves to the consumer that Move is a better device for their favorite games then why is it not feasible that people will use it? It's not going to be about one game, it's going to be about a collection of games and how they feel with move. So even if it isn't a huge success with Killzone 3 it could still be a huge success in the future.

Sony always goes to the hardcore first and from there tries to court the casuals. It's been the way they've done it from the start.

EDIT: Tron: Who are you to say "we"? It sounds like a ton of people love Move. So it's basically Sony saying "people really like this" and you say "well I don't." Sony is not Nintendo they do things very different. Don't expect the Move to be like the Wii.

deadreckoning6665607d ago (Edited 5607d ago )

@RememberThe357- He's getting disagrees because his first statement proves his ignorance. How do you u determine what consoles someone owns based off several lines of text posted on the Internet? Please I'd love to know

nycredude5607d ago (Edited 5607d ago )

what are you move haters on about? Who is forcing you to use it? Who is forcing you to even buy it? Are you not getting enough exclusive games this year? Stop stressing it just "move" on. Why are you in here anyway if you do not care about it?

Have the Ps3 gone the Kinect route? Am I missing something here? Give it time with the backing of Snny 1st parties and hopefully continued success of teh Move we will get great games with it in the future. But if all every did was bash on it all the time then it will fail and we won't get those games.

So if you don't like it fine but please don't try to ruin it for others who like it.

I thnk all you haters needs to go watch the killzone 3 move demo (27 minutes) on iwaggle3d.com and see what a good implementatin of the MOVE system can do for fps before you bash it.

shinrock5607d ago

pokemon is a core game too.

I never heard anyone ever say, geeh this controller scheme on the CoD for Wii is soo fantastic, I wish we had one for the Xbox 360/PS3 just more accurate!

Point being, I tried it and it is fun for what it is, but it doesn't replace the controller. I have never heard or spoken to anyone ever say that PS Move is a better choice for hardcore games ever!

For some things, yes... as a replacement, NO!

at least not as it is implemented in other FPS'es.

Redempteur5607d ago (Edited 5606d ago )

i'm a pc FPS gamer i grew up playing Quake2/3 , halflife CS 1.0 to CS source and day of defeat , unreal tournament 1 ect ect .

Anyway .. i dislike playing fps games with the dualshock ..it just so hard to get into when you've used the speed of moving your hand with a mouse .

When i played metroid prime : corruption everything was intuitive and precise .. and guess what : playing with a "MOVE set" is precisly what i wanted all these years struggling with the dualshock.
Something that can translate accurately the moves my hand is making on consoles ..

I know i'm not alone on this case , numerous people trying MAG with move , agree with me , it just is accurate and easy to get into ... NO MATTER WHAT HATERS says ..

Not Everything on wii using the wiimote isn't a gimmick ..there some serious GOOD , accurate game that can only be improved by a better system ..

That being said .. they aren't even forcing you guys to use it ....they give you a damn choice ..why the complains ??

gamingdroid5606d ago

Well you are one of the few I know that would prefer a PS Move controller over a Dualshock, but I doubt there aren't too many of you.

"That being said .. they aren't even forcing you guys to use it ....they give you a damn choice ..why the complains ?? "

It's not a complaint, more like a reaction to a bold statement... and I certainly hope it is a choice and not something that turns into no choice.

_DragonSlayer_5607d ago

@Bigpappy, They do have Sorcery that looks very promising but we will have to wait and see. I have tried KZ3 with the move, and the sharpshooter and its incredible. I know I'll be using the move instead of the dualshock but to each his own. Whether Sony is right or wrong, I give them kudos for letting me decide what to use. As far as Move or Kinect for that matter replacing standard controllers, you're probably right, it will be a long time before either one of them become the norm.

DlocDaBudSmoka5606d ago

i plan to use my MOVE for when i want to have fun and not worry about a k/d ratio. when i worry about k/d that when i use the ds3.

andy8532d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Pergele31d ago

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk31d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

Athlon10132d ago (Edited 32d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit31d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg31d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10131d ago (Edited 31d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14931d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle44d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker45d ago (Edited 45d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit44d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog45d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_45d ago (Edited 45d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog45d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad45d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_45d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage45d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection
