Mass Effect 2: Screw The Interactive Comic – Catch Up With These Videos Instead

Mass Effect 2 releases for the Playstation 3 today which means that a whole horde of new gamers will also finally get to experience one of the finest games ever made.

Mass Effect is a very story driven game and the truth that Bioware and EA really don’t want you to know is that kicking off your Mass Effect experience without playing the first one is about as bad an idea as they get. It’s a complex universe with rich character building and a very specific plot and after watching the interactive comic (also posted below) that is supposed to let you all catch up, Nick from Lazygamer realised that it missed out on some MAJOR plot points.

the intro was boring..
i've played the game for 2-3 hours now, and 90% has been cut-scenes so far... ! wtf? and the 360 crowd were complaining about heavy rain being an interactive movie?? at least it was interactive.

Aloren5600d ago

Well, at least Mass Effect is a game.

Mmmkay5600d ago

you should play heavy rain before trolling.
if you have played it, it must be a game.... right ?

Aloren5600d ago (Edited 5600d ago )

Dunno, the demo didn't feel like a game, so I didn't bother buying it. Probably nice, but not my kind. On the other hand, I finished ME2 5 times. To me, it feels pretty interactive.... But I guess you bringing HR in this article in the first place wasn't trolling, right ?

Mmmkay5599d ago

sorry. i forgot comparing two games or mentioning a ps3 game is forbidden on n4g.

Aloren5599d ago

There's a difference between saying "I thought ME2 was boring, too many cut-scenes, I actually preferred Heavy Rain" (which would be perfectly fine) and bringing in the opinion of the 360 crowd regarding heavy rain, and adding "at least it was interactive". Imo anyway.

Now sorry if i took this as trolling, but it sounded like you were complaining about the opinion of others regarding and unrelated game rather than giving your opinion.

No grudge though.

That is a thing i wanted to say for a long time: Screw the interactive comic.

Dark_Vendetta5600d ago

I'm really glad I played the first Mass Effect on my Xbox otherwise I wouldn't have understood the story at all in the comic. They were mixing up all names from the first one in a few minutes, and as I said, in my opinion it would have been impossible to understand everything without actually playing the first game. Also you could only make I think 4 or 5 choices of which two weren't that important. Still the game is amazing and everyone who hasnt played it, should buy it!

Krugsy5600d ago

I thought the interactive comic was good, better then having nothing at all. Still, it would have been great having ME1, but since that is never going to happen it was good of Bioware to do the comic. They could have just released it without it and maybe put a couple of vids in the game instead.

Blacktric5600d ago (Edited 5600d ago )

I don't know if it's possible but they could've added a save import tool, which would allow players to import saves from Mass Effect's PC version. With that way, PS3 users wouldn't miss a thing from the whole Mass Effect experience.

Krugsy5600d ago

That there would have been an awesome idea...

TardcoreGamer5600d ago

It would be lovely if there was a way to convert either a PC or 360 save over to a Ps3. I might be well-wishing but hey...

Blacktric5600d ago

PC version is more likely since Microsoft didn't publish it. Maybe I should write this to Bioware forums.

005600d ago

No proper context to the decisions, complete bias to the decision(Love Interest, EVIL Rackni queen with her EVIL horde. which is not true ect) and a big ole Recton that makes the whole point of Mass Effect pointless. other than giving players six choice ( something like that should have been in the game to begin with) the comic is horrible.

Blacktric5600d ago (Edited 5600d ago )

"EVIL Rackni queen with her EVIL horde."

This part really pissed me off too. The canonical one is most likely to save her (which also happens to be the Paragon way). But Shepard says it like they're completely evil and have bad intentions eventhough she admits that she never saw or remembers the Rachni Wars and will teach the kindness of humanity if Shepard releases her. If I never've played the first game, I'd probably choose to kill her.

anast530d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine530d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast530d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman530d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast529d ago

3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan778d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave778d ago (Edited 778d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
