If Alan Wake 2 Was Real...

Now knowing the sales, an Alan Wake sequel may never come about. But with all the fans that there are for Alan Wake (so many people seem to want a sequel), then there could still be a slight chance a sequel would be made. But if there were a sequel, Remedy would need to work twice as hard to make this game truly something special. But what should be added in the franchise that could make the sequel better? Here are 6 things the sequel would need and should recieve to be successful and brilliant.

It's a shame, Alan Wake was a great game, though to be fair, I didn't buy it either. It was the one game in the last like 10 years that I actually rented. It was short but very well done. I know a lot of people didn't like it though.

Kran5610d ago

I don't know why those people didn't. I think those were just the people who were angry it took 5 years. It's just like GT5 really.

Darkfiber5610d ago

I can understand that. For how long it took, it wasn't as mindblowing as it could have been, and it was on the short side, but the overall experience was awesome.

NYC_Gamer5610d ago

because it wasnt the game that remedy promised

Alan Wake was/is a great game...that is well known. The problem is it didn't push 12 million units like Halo or COD.

As for sales...last I heard it was around 850,000 before the holiday price cut. It was recently revealed to be one of Xbox'x most pirated games at 1.14 million. COD:black ops had less pirated copies at 960,000. What was the most pirated game on 360???...How about Dante's Inferno at 1.5 million.

Regardless, The game is alot of fun with some of the best visuals this gen and it's use of light and environment effects was incredible...

The game had great reviews as well...

Some of the great set pieces offered great game play tied to the story like fan favorite Anderson farm...

If this game is gonna be a seller on the 360 it will need co-op and maybe a on line horde mode. This game as is would support that with little work. The actual total game play amounts to around 3 Gb...O_o...It was a huge oversight to ignore the XBL heavy 360 core user base. Expect some on-line game play in the next installment and maybe some Kinect compatibility.

I'm pretty sure even fanboys will have to agree if this game gets a sequel it'll probably go PC/PS3/360 to rack up more sales.

500k units shifted on the 360 alone isn't bad, but I think they were probably aiming for the 1 million mark. If you have a 360, I'd encourage you to buy the game, it's a pretty fresh experience, and it can be found for pretty cheap these days. ($20 new on amazon, $15 used).

EDIT - Ah my bad, forgot it's published by MS. I still think the game will go PC/360 though, they are going to want to rack in as many sales as they can. The only problem I see is that the people who were originally interested in the PC version of Alan Wake might be a little miffed about them axing the PC version of the original.

aviator1895610d ago

Would it really go multi-plat seeing as how Remedy is backed up the microsoft and ms published the first game?

Kran5610d ago

PS3, no, because Microsoft now owns Alan Wake. However, PC, could still happen.

Infernostew5610d ago

Since when? It's not on their wikipedia page of IPs. Care to give me a link?

IronFistChinMi5610d ago

Remedy still own the IP and have stated how important it is for small devs like them to retain control of their IP's.

Lamarthedancer5610d ago (Edited 5610d ago )

I would like to play as Alice Wake, she had no character development in Alan Wake (plus something wrong with her facial expression when she talked). It would be nice for her to learn about the darkness by fighting with it rather then her to find out at the end of the game by Alan, like what most games/films do....husband/boyfriend fights off bad guys, wife gets captured, saves wife, then explains whats going on.

Husband and Wife saving the world from the darkness....cheesy I know, but not really done before

Oh and number 6...CO-OP..........Does everything have to be Co-Op

Single player games can be fun on their own you know

kissmeimgreek5610d ago

I was kinda thinking the same thing. Now that we know Alans been in the darkness for a while I think it would be cool to see what happens to Alice. Maybe start the sequel with an episode deicated to playing Alice as she learns about the darkness and where Alan is. Maybe even end it with a cliffhanger of the darkness finding her and controlling her like that detective.

Oh and another thing I thought would be interesting. More daytime segments. I think it would be cool to see how people act after being affected by the darkness, or just having some time to run around a (semi) free world gathering a little bit of information from the townsfolk about Bright Falls. To kind of add a little bit of variety in the gameplay (Running through a forest pretty much nonstop just shooting things the exact same way kinda got old... Still one of my favorite games though!).

Alice is dead, she drowned.

Workshyskiver5610d ago

I will be over the moon when it is announced. Which I am confident it will be.

Masterchef20075610d ago

The only people to blame are the ones who didn't buy it. If a sequel doesn't get created because of sales the only people to blame are the 360 owners. Shame on you for fueling trashy games such as black ops and when a gem like alan wake comes around you pass it up.

kissmeimgreek5610d ago

500k (or whatever it was last known at) sales for AW really surprised me for the lack of advertising this game got. Not once did I ever see a billboard, Game Stop advertisement, or commercial for it. Microsoft really left AW to die.

Masterchef20075609d ago

they sure did. But a game that gets few ads can sometimes sell loads. Frankly i dont believe that 360 owners are into these types of games otherwise it would have sold a lot.

Alan Wake 2's Upgraded PSSR Delivers A Vast Improvement

DF: "Alan Wake 2 is one of our games of the generation - a proper technical showcase - but with the arrival of Sony's upgraded PSSR upscaler, it's also a key proving ground for the capabilities of the revised technology. In its 60fps performance mode, the game's complex foliage, dense geometry and demanding lighting are paired with an internal 864p resolution, upscaled to 4K. It's a challenge that the original PSSR couldn't handle, sometimes comparing unfavourably with the original FSR2. However, the upgraded PSSR is a revelation by comparison."

I've already completed this game and everything else there is to do in it sadly, so I have no need to go back and enjoy the added enhancements that the new PSSR brings to this game. But I definitely want to go back and check out Control as I still haven't finished up all the DLC for that yet.

Ashunderfire8673d ago

O definitely do Control is a longer game than Alan Wake 2! Plus there is an Alan Wake tie in with Control, plus you face off against a scary boss! That guy was hard asf man.

Jesse Faden the main character, has so many upgrades to her movesets, and object of power gun. Playing this game now to prepare for Control Resonant.

Cacabunga73d ago (Edited 73d ago )

It’s a terrible and boring game.
No way I will ever go back to it . I really do not like Remedy’s touch

Kornholic73d ago

Sadly? You mean you can't replay a game just for the fun of it?

Neonridr73d ago

I've played through the game numerous times. It was my favorite game of 2023. I have so many other games to play. Could I go back and play it for a few minutes to appreciate some extra clarity in the distance? Sure. Would I rather play a game I haven't finished or played yet and enjoy the PSSR updates brought to those titles instead? Yes.

isarai_lee73d ago

I mean im kinda with Neonridr on this, like when i game is so good you get everything you can out of it, a slightly shaper image is cool but not worth the hassle of install/update etc

andy8573d ago (Edited 73d ago )

It's mad they can take a 864p image and make it close to a 4K image. This tech is gonna do so much for console gaming

fr0sty73d ago (Edited 73d ago )

the crazier part is, sometimes enabling this kind of AI upscaling tech actually produces a BETTER image than natively rendering at 4K (and to be clear, I'm not talking about DLSS5's AI slop that takes creativity away from the game developers).

isarai_lee73d ago

That's just outright not true

andy8573d ago

Dunno why you're getting downvotes there is actually instances of this happening. Stellar Blade being one of them. DF reported the PSSR mode looks better than the native 4K mode. Im assuming its PSSR from 1440p or higher. So imagine with the 2.0 update

__y2jb73d ago

Strange that the other story on the frontpage with AI upscaling involved is receiving a hugely negative response in the comments but a Playstation AI upscaler story...well that's just great!

isarai_lee73d ago

No it's still bad, just not nearly as egregious, but there's definitely a sizeable (and growing) group of gamers who dislike any TAA/DLSS/AI upscale in general, myself included. Every time there's some update to one of these upscaling methods I roll my eyes because only when we improve from the issues can we address the issues, but when talking outside of an improvement or update suddenly there's no issues and we're The crazy ones for criticizing AI upscaling

andy8573d ago

That's because one is changing the art (characters faces) and one is making things look sharper. Isnt because it's PlayStation.

mkis00779d ago

Such a weird post by them. Apparently they just mean the system wide toggle. Which is perfectly fine. This is based off a post they made after this post.

Eonjay78d ago

Not sure what's weird about that. The update being system wide is basically free marketing for any game using the tech. I assume they already have access to the update and are happy with the results.

mkis00778d ago

Its Just the wording, as they didnt have to do any work for it to be supported.

jznrpg78d ago

Why is it weird for a dev to let people know their game runs better now? If they didn’t mention it that would be weird

mkis00778d ago

I just mean they worded it like they did a custom thing...which they could do by tweaking base resolution if the upgraded pssr allows it with no image drawbacks. I'd be down for that.
