GP: Here's a quick look at what gamers can expect from Pilotwings Resort, the upcoming extreme sports collection hitting the 3DS.

I can think of few games better suited to the 3DS' eye-popping tech than Pilotwings Resort. Combining light aerial challenges--collecting items, navigating obstacles, landing on targets--with vibrant tropical island visuals, the flight sim provides a perfect example of what this new hardware is capable of. Behind the controls of a plane, jet pack, and hang-glider, I experienced an unparalleled sense of flight, buoyed by 3D effects that immediately had me drinking Nintendo's Kool Aid.

PilotWings Resort Developer David Pollatsek Dead at 38

Tynan Muddle at Aussie-Gamer.com writes: "Co-founder of development studio Monster Games and programmer for Nintendo’s PilotWings Resort on Nintendo 3DS David Pollatsek has passed away at the age of 38."

Pollatsek co-founded United States based development studio Monster Games in 1996 which went onto working on Wii titles such as ExciteTruck and ExciteBike: World Rally. The studio was hired as an international partner in the development of PilotWings Resort, a launch title for Nintendo 3DS. One of Pollatsek’s hobbies included flying airplanes."

In addition, we got a slew of retail releases available on the eShop, including Mario Tennis Open, Pilotwings Resort, Pokemon Rumble Blast (euuugh), and the BIT.TRIP Saga! The BIT.TRIP Saga is available for $14.99, Pokemon Rumble Blast is available for $34.99, and the rest are available for $39.99. Finally, the 3DS Virtual Console gets a new entry in the form of Wario Land II for the Game Boy Color ($4.99)."
