Mass Effect 2 for PS3 is “Universally Acclaimed”

Mass Effect 2 for the PlayStation 3 has been out for all of 24 hours now and as reviews start to make their way into Metacritic. It's score is starting to shape up, standing at a 95 right now that puts it right on par with its Xbox 360 release of last year whose score ended up averaging at a 96. Will Mass Effect 2 on the PS3 surpass this lofty mark? It's going to take quite a few 100's and not many more lower scores to get there.

Well, Bioware said that the PS3 version is the BEST version.

BakedGoods5603d ago

I beat it first on the 360, now I can again plus get trophies (achievements feel so worthless), play all the DLC and NOT disk swap.

I was sold along time ago.

mintaro5603d ago

Coming out a year later it should be the better version.

Newtype5603d ago (Edited 5603d ago )

Not better than the PC version with a solid 50-60FPS.
GTX 570 FTW.

HeavenlySnipes5603d ago

It is. All the DLC for free, a better smoother engine. Yeah I'd say the PS3 got the best version of the game. Not the best looking, best verision

Blacktric5603d ago (Edited 5603d ago )

@HeavenlySnipes

I didn't know that the PS3 version is the best version in every possible way. Can you import every decision you can make in Mass Effect 1 to the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2? Including smaller but important ones that will also have an impact on Mass Effect 3? Stop kidding yourself for the sake of defending the console you own.

Shepherd 2145603d ago

Yea the PS3 Mass Effect 2 gets like a digital comic book where you get to make only big decisions from the first game, and not actually play it an make the dozens upon dozens of smaller choices that pop up again in ME2.

Thats not the best version, in my opinion.

Ducky5603d ago

DLC isn't really free when you're paying $40 more than the PC version.

visualb5603d ago

and thats why it probably is

Bioware are good devs

I can't believe the amount of disrespect they have been getting from the gaming community since they announced ME2 for the PS3.

even in their own site, "gamers" insulting them for it, here people stating ME2 on PS3 is a bad port, when they in true insult and attack Bioware, not the opposing console owners.

Blacktric5603d ago

Why the hell would I be mad? I'm gonna buy the PS3 version too (sometime in February hopefully). I want to experience its awesomeness on my PS3 too but calling it the best version in every possible way is just unnecessary. FYI, there are also two exclusive DLC's on the PSN Store for PS3 version. Recon Operations Pack and N7 Complete Arsenal Bundle which includes every armor/weapon/costume pack DLC's for like 10 bucks. It's a great deal considering how awesome most of those armors and weapons are.

WhiteNoise5603d ago

@HeavenlySnipes

lol. Yeah, the PS3 version which all the coimparison sitres have said is slightly interior to the 360 version, is somehow better than the PC version.

WTF do you mean by smoother...I get 60 frames constant at 1080p with 32CSAA...doesn't get smoother than 16.66666..... ms frame delay for every frame displayed.

On top of that a mouse a keyboard is much more responsive than a gamepad so it is no 'smoother' no matter how your twisted mind tries to rationalise it.

Now view these screens in their native res of 1920x1080 and blow a ps3 screen up to the same res and tell me they look the same ;)

same thing on xbox and pc so lol?

gamingisnotacrime5603d ago

the upgrade is not major, but is good enough to warrant a rebuy (trophies and DLC also add to the value)
All that universe in one Disc, the way is supposed to be

electricshadow5603d ago

I'll make sure to pick this up for the PS3 after I play the original Mass Effect for my 360. Kind of a semi-related question, but why is Mass Effect 2 for the 360 $20 when Mass Effect 1 is $30?

Sarcasm5603d ago

I've been trying to play ME1 on my PC, and honestly after playing ME2 I cant really stand playing ME1. Call me a mindless mainstream drone, but it just isn't as fun as ME2. But the story in ME1 seems more Epic IMO.

ShinraE55603d ago

I feel the same. ME2 improved in so many ways, its hard to go back.

electricshadow5603d ago

Really? Well, story is really important to me and I'm thinking playing the first game rather than doing the comic book introduction will be a better experience. I'm really happy to hear the sequel is better than the first one. I haven't played any of the Mass Effect games yet, so I'll probably be in your boat once I play the first two.

pain777pas5603d ago

Shadow, i will admit that knowing the characters that you are going to meet again adds a lot to your connection to the games characters for sure. I would play the PC version if any because the xbox version was pretty buggy. I played it on both Xbox first and beat it and the PC version for some reason I am having a hard time trying to beat that game. I prefer the controller with the 360 so you do have to weigh things out. Bioware did a great job with the port. If you compare the first ME game on the 360 to this game as the first PS3 game it is a great improvement. There is no major pop in or screen tearing the video is just not up to snuff but whatever. The game runs very well. Don't buy the gamespot review and others downplaying the game as a buggy mess. Gamespot gave the first 360 version a 8.5 and they did the same with the PS3. They rated the 360 lower because of the bugs. Now, if you compare the 2 games as far as "distracting bugs" that interfere with game play the PS3 should get a 10 and 360 Me a 6. There are no noticeable bugs that cripple the game by any stretch if the original 360 game is used as the reference point for taking points off for a game being buggy. I personally give the original ME on 360 an 8 in playbility. In comparison to the PS3 version that I give a 9.5 in playability. It is that solid people. Nothing to complain about in performance if you take the previous game spot "distracting bugs markdowns" as a reference point. Game on!

Ethereal5603d ago (Edited 5603d ago )

I played the first on PC awhile back but never finished it. The announcement that I had been hoping for came (it coming to PS3) so I finished it up. It was great game loved every minute of it. Ill correlate all my decisions I made on the PC to the PS3 version =) Oh and who cares what version is better and worth it. It's available to ALL gamers now. We can enjoy it and wait with anticipation for ME3 together.

Kalipekona5603d ago

Of course, it's a really great game.

But what does it have to do with supposedly being the best version. You can think that if you want, but that isn't why it is getting good scores. The 360 and PC versions received great scores last year.

Bro missing companions: Legion, Grunt, Samara/Morinth, Javik, EDI

anast531d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine531d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast531d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman531d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast530d ago

Liam lol I can't stand that dude.

3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan779d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave778d ago (Edited 778d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
