Well it has to look better - the PS3 version is using the same engine that ME3 will use.

Pointless test.

They don't look the same, but the differences really aren't such that you're missing out on something great. For example, it's no Dragon Age: Origins on the 360 compared to the PS3.

The texture resolutions are improved, but they didn't do any enhancements to them to really make it count (they didn't want to redo all the textures, which would have extended this project by a few more months).

The most notable change is in the lighting. This was done on their part o make whites whiter and blacks blacker. It also helps with making certain model elements pop a bit more (scars on Shephard's face), but it also then shows that some texture elements were designed as flat textures (Miranda's suit).

All in all, the slight improvements are things we'll see going into ME3, where I'm fairly certain the 360 will have the slight edge once again since the UE3 engine is pretty much designed specifically for a PC architecture. But, most importantly, ME3 will also be coming to the PS3 and whether you own just the one console or you prefer to play on your PS3, you'll have the choice to decide between the better platform (always PC) or the console (360/PS3).

Get over it. But I forgive you. Once you actually play the PS3 version you'll see the PS3 version looks better. It does. It's nowhere near one of the best looking games on PS3 but it looks better than the 360 version...and I think that's what this whole fuss is really about. If not, then go play the PS3 version and see for yourself, the new engine brings a lot to the table.

looks same for me ... where is the new engine

NYC_Gamer5611d ago

that new engine was just hype

Spitfire_Riggz5611d ago

Taking advantage of all the fanboys that would jump on that train. I bought it because its an amazing game no matter how it looks

A new engine for Mass Effect does not necessarily improve image quality. The overall look comes down to the existing assets (models and textures) as well as the lighting.

According to Eurogamer, the lighting has changed in a lot of places, but often times for the worse. I don't understand why they changed it to begin with, because the lighting in Mass Effect has always been amazing.

And here we have the troll bait article. Please await as the trolls arrive....

xkarxfreddy5611d ago

was hoping it would look better on ps3 because its using the new engine! still looks good tho

ChilliDemon5611d ago

Listen, the images do NOT look the same. However, the differences, however small they may be, are subjective and therefore a consensus of opinion is impossible and pointless.
These comparison attempts exist merely to waste our lives in meaningless to-and-fro banter which gets nowhere and benefits NO-ONE.

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine538d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast538d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman538d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast537d ago

1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave785d ago (Edited 785d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
