Activision might not shut down the PlayStation 3 Servers of Black Ops

Recently, it was stated by an Activision spoke person that they might be considering shutting down the PlayStation Network servers for the popular game Call of Duty: Black Ops. One big incentive for Activision to not shut down the servers is profit.

It would be a poor choice for them if they did >.>

@disagree: So you say they should? XD

"Fortunately, that was just a misunderstanding and a quote from one of our representatives was taken out of context and created a lot of confusion. We can assure you that the Call of Duty: Black Ops servers are not being shut down, and this is a false alarm. We are sorry for any inconvenience or unnecessary worries this may have caused, but as of now, there are absolutely no plans for the servers to be taken down."

Not that I don't trust you or anything, but can you give me a source? To share with others?

Edit: Nvm, thanks for the heads up.

The Activision drama just keeps getting better by the minute. I'm glad I traded my copy of BO in last week, because if they actually do shut down the servers, BO isn't going to worth more than $5 trade-in value.

LOOK_AT_THIS_I5476d ago

lmao..."as of now"

This game needs flushed down the shitter. The only things that made me keep it longer was the zombies and the combat training. The lag, the disconnects and the first month of it not being able to connect with friends drove it over the top. Its worth 35.00 on amazon if you trade it in now.

With the success of DC universe charging 15 bucks a month to play, you know these asshats are keeping a close ear to the chest of the average COD player. Get ready to open your wallets because a pay to play is coming.

Scary695476d ago

That's what I thought activision, they are too money hungry to F themselves like that. heh

Once DLC comes out, they will make a few million more in profit. Shutting down servers serves only to reduce their profits and greatly anger customers, no matter what they do to appease them.

gypsygib5476d ago

They would lose over 8 million PS3 copies next year - never happen.

Fire the guy who said that - he threatened your customers.

gta28005476d ago

Maybe they're just bluffing. I mean come on. How many times have you threatened someone with something you wouldn't really do but pretend you will do it lol. I know I've done that and this is probably the case with Activision. You think Bobby's greedy ass would really do that?? He tries to squeeze every dime out of us man...I don't think they will do it. But if they did, I would never buy an Activision ever again.

saladthieves5476d ago (Edited 5476d ago )

If they decide to shut down the servers and actually do it, it would be their dumbest move ever; as that would be A LOT of customers suddenly disappointed and deeply pissed off.

On the other hand, I want them to shut the servers down just to show them that the PS3 community doesn't give a shit about such an ass ported game with half the features not working; or the PS3 community to show them that there are MUCH BETTER shooters out there (Like Battlefield Bad Company 2) which are working just fine and cannot be blamed on these late hacks. They failed to address the issues and all they are saying is: "well, we get nothing out of the PSN and we don't see why we should care anyway, let's just shut down the servers and be done with it"

One thing is clear: PS3 gamers are now smarter than ever, and I can promise Activision one thing: they are not going to get a lot of sales for their next game on the PS3. I'm happy for this because this gives the PS3 people who have been drawn into the Black Ops hype an opportunity to see that there are better things out there.

somebody was looking to get their 15 minutes of fame...in internet time, that's like 30 seconds

WHOA #1. You are DUMB, SON! That had to be one of the dumbest comments I have ever read!

On a related note: No one would ever allow activision to get away with terminating the online play! That is so ridiculous i can't believe anyone ever tripped over this.

Otheros005477d ago

They will never shut it down unless most of the people that are playing black ops stop playing.

Microsoft needs to listen or risk irreparable harm to Call of Duty

Windows Central: "The money may keep rolling in, but Microsoft is the custodian of one of the biggest selling video game series in history. If something doesn't change, I fear we'll reach a breaking point and irreparable damage will have been done."

Because ms is so good at managing studios, surely they will get it right

franwex51d ago

In my view, they should probably merge MP with Warzone and essentially make it free to play like Halo Infinite. The campaign/zombies mode can be $30 yearly DLC. I know this would be insanity as most COD players essentially pay the full price of the game simply for the MP. However-with a shrinking player base they may have to consider it. Making it free would bring in a ton of players.

Profchaos51d ago

To late MW3 should have been a lesson but here we are two years later with a steaming pile a shite called blops7

Halo killer once arrived and technically call of duty killer also arrived, its name is Fortnite

dveio51d ago

Call of Duty was riding the revenue horse and charts for ~20 years. Whether undeserved or deserved.

But I endorse everyone to remind you that Microsoft could have decided differently when they took it over.

The money was certainly there, and they could have taken their time revamping the franchise:

Current-gen tech, manageable microtransactions, not imitating Fortnite and returning to core values of the franchise's origin.

They didn't.

Let's see next year. Hopefully without the then 13 years old PS4 and One hardware.

blacktiger51d ago

you need to stop saying "let see next year"

While i appreciate the gesture.... all of these retro classics have been made available everywhere else. I am hoping to see some other Activision properties make their way out of the shackles of the 5th, 6th and 7th gen. Licensing be damned... bring back the Transformers Cybertron games.

P_Bomb239d ago

Love the Cybertron games! TF games have been shit lately. Would love to see that era revisited. I even did the multiplayer!

MrBaskerville239d ago

Is the retro classics for all consoles?

Obscure_Observer240d ago

Metaphor on Gamepass just announced! O.o

Seriously, this is the best generation of Xbox ever!!!

We can´t catch a freaking break from awesome games arriving all the time!!!

Deathdeliverer239d ago

It’s a HELL of a game. If you like JRPGs in the family of Persona, you will be in heaven… that is until you hear the various battle music…. then you’ll be somewhere BEYOND heaven!

babadivad239d ago

Just finished Clair Obscur. This should be fun.
