Brink: 2011's classiest FPS?

Brink's biggest problem is that most people might ignore it. As an online shooter it's loaded with brilliant ideas - so no problems there.

It has an art style all of its own, clever missions which give you fun solo tasks in big team games, tight controls and an interesting setting

Rage, Brink and Crysis are the only FPS I will be buying as of now. Yes I own all three consoles too.

Is it me or has this game barley seen sunlight cause I've barley heard anything about it? Not saying its gonna be a bad game I just haven't seen much of it?

Ducky5590d ago (Edited 5590d ago )

It's been taking it's rounds, though since it's a new IP, the older more established titles get the limelight focused on them.

Battlefield3 and Brink are the two games I have my eyes eagerly set on for some good multiplayer FPS action.

Edit: From what my memory tells me, their hopes were mostly common sense. DICE knows what their fans want. =)

Op245590d ago

TitanReviews did a whole article on what their hoping for in Battlefield 3. You should put some input into it. They wanna send it to the developers if enough people say what they're hoping for in the game.

DaCajun5590d ago

@ Nick

The reason it hasn't seen much light is it was supposed to get released last spring then last fall now this spring but they haven't given a date this time probably so they won't look like fools again with another delay. I've been waiting for this game for a long time now and had it pre-ordered for over a year. It looks to be an awesome game, the concept along with the free running. Hopefully they don't disappoint and deliver the goods.

TinaSumSum,

Did you feel it was important to tell us you have ALL 3 CONSOLES wince you didn't mention Killzone 3? You are a liar and trolling and that is shameful.

On Topic: Brink merges Killzone, Borderlands, and Mirror's Edge into one giant awesome shooter. I think it looks to be the most unique of the arcade shooters this year. I love the online/offline integration. Kudos to the devs.

DeathMetal14745589d ago (Edited 5589d ago )

soemone does not want BoreZone he must be a troll and a liar. GTFO retard. Look how butthurt you fanboys get if KZ is not mentioned. FYI KZ2 was boring and had generic gameplay.

The head level designer from killzone 2 is working on this game. I don't get what you're saying XBL has a bunch of videos showing enough to get every FPS fan excited. Just think of your favorite action packed FPS with a Multiplayer mode and Multi campaign. Cross single player and multi player level ups and co-op play.

Op245590d ago

Well havent been on XBL in a while so maybe that explains my issues hahaha

Tinasumsum5590d ago (Edited 5590d ago )

No your issues are assuming just because you have not been following the game you needed to respond to me by suggesting the developers have been completely hush hush about the game. People knew more about this 2011 game back in early 2010 compared to 90% of other 2011 games. It's not just XBL but all over the web. The game is kept secret on N4G because of the game's graphical quality. Brink is up there with Crytek and ID Software games so visiting N4G isn't the best place to get gaming news.

There are tons of developer diaries and making off videos of brink on PSN too nickjcal. But the game is indeed not that promoted, which isn't surprising for a multiplatforming new IP, probably also because it's still to firmly set a release date, expect to see more of it closer to the release.

As for the game per se, despite Tina's conspiracy theory, I don't think anyone is afraid of it's graphic quality, it looks really good indeed, but as someone said under, they have a very stylized art that is really polished to look good without spenting resources in tons of polys, HD textures or fancy effects, but they have indeed great drawn distance and well designed big maps. Definetely not as technically impressive as KZ3, much less what we expected from PC versions of Crysis 2 and Rage, but not to be ignored as it looks just as good as this high rollers in some aspects.

PSN has 720p videos of gameplay (probably you can find the same videos on Live too), watch it if you want to know more about it. The gameplay look very arcade and, as the graphics, very stylized, mixing parkour moves with the shooting mechanics, they say it will focus around multiplayer, both competitive and cooperative. It looks like a fun game, not much of a visual experience a story driven game. Personally I was a lot more interest last year, this year is too crowded to dedicate much time into multiplayer and I'm already hooked with SOCOM4 (I still play Confrontation with my clan almost every night).

schlanz5590d ago

I'm more looking forward to KZ3, Bulletstorm, and Rage. And maybe Resistance 3. I don't care much for the multiplayer components of shooters. Just give me a solid campaign and that's plenty for me.

Brink does look like a jolly good time for those who enjoy multiplayer, though.

Oh yeah Tinasumsum, you have a PS3 and I am the tooth fairy.

Quit trolling already, if you want this 3 FPS games fine, but pushing your agenda pretending this games are any more relevant or expected than Killzone 3 or Resistance 3 is as dumb as it gets, all this games have their fan base following it and no one so far has even a clue for witch one will be better, if even comparable, most of this games are still many months away.

Anyway your opinion wouldn't be relevant even if you had a PS3, as in I don't have to choose, I can play 'em all.

jammydude5589d ago

Classy? Maybe. Best? Noooooooo lol.

Killzone 3, Resistance 3, Rage and even Crysis 2 look to trump Brink quite easily. I'm sorry but campaigns are needed in FPS games.

I think Killzone 3 and possibly even Rage will be the best shooters of '11.

Kon5590d ago

Nope, Crysis 2 and KZ3 are.

Tinasumsum5590d ago

Talking about replay value of Brink with all of its Multiplayer-co op modes and over all gameplay design. Rage's open almost RPG-ish gameplay and Crysis story telling above all else. Sure the graphics are unmatched in these games but IMO these offer the best value for my money.

Ducky5590d ago

What's classier than gouging eyes out?

FrankMcSpank5590d ago

Brink is probably the classiest. It's got that vibe.

I've seen all the dev diaries but there are too many excellent looking shooters coming out in 2011. Also I like how they use an easy(but by no means bad) way to make the game's graphics look really good. Make it stylized and polish the bejeezus out of it. Reduces the polygons/textures needed by a ton and still looks pretty. As a bonus it stands out from the crowd of "photorealistic" games (Think back to borderlands). Brink's art director must be a smart guy and I look forward to seeing if this game can live up to the ideos in terms of graphics, gameplay and balancing. It has some stiff competition.
