Looking at Sony's history of trying to push new formats I wouldn't be surprised at all if they added a blu-ray mini reader to the PSP2.

As long as you can make it affordable Sony, I say go for it.

Blu-rays partly Sonys baby, why wouldn't they take this route in a tech they've spent millions developing?

SD cards will be the way they choose they could do SDHC cards and have 4-32GBs, or SDXC 32GBs-2TB.

Personally, I wouldn’t mind 100% digital distribution, but there’s no way retailers would go for that.

if this turns out to be true it's gonna hurt the psp2 in the long run IMO.

it will be cool to have psp2 with a mini blue ray disk which means large capacity and as sony said the graphics will be nearly as good ps3 so it will require a good media to support it

if the PSP2 uses media storage and not only digital distribution, I don't want some f**ing disc-based technology ! It as zero advantage for the consumer. Just use cartridges or something

A mini blu-ray eh? I am having concerns with battery life if this proves true. This will be a monster of a handheld.

PSP failed becuase of UMD, the PSP Go failed becuase PSP failed.

No optical drive or it will be 100% failure.

it seems like people would like sony to incorporate some media that is easily hacked or copied so they can lose money and scare off third party developers. i dont care what sony does, as long as they provide all the security they need to so people dont steal games and distribute them online for free. im such a hardcore gamer that i wouldnt care if the psp2 used a regular sized blu ray disc as long as i get amazing graphics or a device that is close to the ps3s power or more powerful. if you dont like sonys moto of bigger better technology then you guys should get a lesser device thats cheaper and not as powerful.

I got a PSP 2000 and the last 15 games I bought for it I got then at the PSN.

After you get used to play games from the memory stick it is much better then UMD.
It is because the a lot less noise , PSP's battery last longer and less weight.

I hope this mini BD is a totally fake rumor and that the games for the PSP2 will come in mini SD/Memory Stick capable to hold up to 32 G.

If this is another media on disc.. IDK.. having 2 extra moving parts on the system = lesser battery life.

But w/e.

A mini-BR optical drive will spell handheld "DISASTER" for the psp2. The Li-Ion battery that would need to power such a device would have to special & specifically designed be super powerful also meaning exclusively "SUPER EXPENSIVE"!! Also having to much moving parts would also drain the handheld far too quickly. They have to keep it memory Flash drive & memory stick DLOAD ONLY(*ala PsPGO), via Wi-Fi(WiiMax/4G) or USB or both.

And let it support the upcoming "SDXC" cards format for super faster speeds and much greater storage capacity. Yeah I know the card format will be expensive at launch but that's the way it is for ALL NEW FORMAT tech, it won't be forever!. But the digital media capabilities of the sdxc format is enormous.

Lets not rule out anything just yet & wait & see what the final product has under the hood first because mobile technology has come quite ways this gen much sooner then previous gens.
