I believe they have security for anti piracy. Like Sony, Toshiba, IBM that worked together to evade piracy or to hack the PS3 Hardware.

But is not enough, Crackers and Hackers will find a way to hack a device of each company.

If you sell 100 million hand helds (all at a profit as this is how Nin rolls) and then have a 20% piracy rate you still have an installed base of 80 million to sell into. Not saying its right (its not...) but Nin will be fine.

Sony has plenty of time to fix the PSP2, and after what happened to the PS3 I expect they'll be paying for good developers who actually understand encryption properly to make sure they get it right. They'll probably have security experts audit it too.

In essence that's why the PS3 got hacked. The people trying to break the system understood encryption theory better than those who created it. Using seeds that weren't random is a beginner's mistake.

Ninendo on the other hand just doesn't really seem to be trying. But hey, like you say, when they're selling as many consoles and games as they are then maybe it just doesn't matter.

I buy all my DS games despite not having to. Some people download every game (literally even). Would they buy them otherwise? Some yes, some no. Certainly every download does not translate to a lost sale, and even some who buy a console purely for the piracy seem to occasionally buy games. That's even without touching on what influence people's income has on their purchasing habits. The reality is that the market is too complex for us to know for certain what the monetary effects are. I expect some consoles have had a net benefit from piracy via increased popularity, and others have had lost a fortune due to mass copying.

Fundamentally though I don't blame the games companies from wanting nice predictable sales where every player has paid for their legal copy. It's an easier market for them to understand and manage. No surprise really that they are so against piracy.

If they can run unsigned code at the CPU's supervisor level even without an OS present then the 3DS is essentially wide open for anything. You wouldn't need games or an OS to test it, you'd know it would work. Certainly wouldn't be so easy to find an exploit like that though.

If the hack is legitmate I'm inclined to think either Nintendo hasn't tried very hard to lock it down or these guys really knew what to look for. If the security is similar to the DSi then the latter is quite likely.

i haven't seen any 3DS games from preview videos which would use any motion features, so not every game will use them...

Actually, it has and the card that I won't name in case people try to find one does work on it.

But im sure the software developers did.
