Heavenly Sword for the PlayStation 3 shines with great writing, fun cut scenes, but more importantly a fighting system that never gets old.

Well I remember not all that long ago, all the PS3 fanboys picking fault with Gears of War, they had to admit that it was a great game but, it was really short.

Well!

This game is the same it's very well done great game play and GFX but... it is really short, I managed to complete it in the space of a day.

so, all you fanboys, you'll have to take it back because Blu-ray is not helping in any way to give a longer experience. This doesn't even have an on-line mode to keep you playing after it's completed. All you get is a hard mode.

Saying this I really enjoyed the game and would recommend playing it but, maybe it's a better rent than buy.

Bathyj6821d ago (Edited 6821d ago )

I'd rather play a brilliant game that last 6 to 8 hours then a boring game that last 20 hours. Its not about the length its about the quality of the experience. Would you rather watch a 2 hour movie like the Matrix or a 10 hour series about 17th century english pottery?

Yes I know, some PS3 fanboy picked on the length of Gears and it upset you. Well nows your chance to be the bigger man and stop blaming all PS3 owners for a couple of fanboys remarks.

And just because its BR doesn't mean the game will be longer. For the reasons I've already mention they've not concentrated on game length but content. They could say lets make a 20 hour game with 100 trees in it, or lets make a 10 hour game and squeeze 1000 trees into it. From what I've seen, all their design CHOICES were pretty sound.

PS
It wasnt me that clicked disagree.

Ars technica is one of the worst BOTTISH site on the net. How could people even approve this review

segasage6821d ago

this has become another rental...$60 bucks for a hack n slash 5 hour game.

at lest with gears there was more tactfulness, in here, you just hack n slash away like most of them games without thinking. pulling of combos and some special moves.

this titles I repeat is not pushing the genre in any way. besides the motion capture but thats nothing new. oh wait 10 gb of sound, and what does that do?

good game if you have been waiting...heyits true.

Bathyj6821d ago

So its a 5 hour game now?

If we keep talking about it for a couple weeks it will be down to 3 hours.

JACKRABBIT6821d ago (Edited 6821d ago )

I have to disagree with you on this matter.HS is a true masterpiece a true next gen game.If you want you can beat the game with just button mashing but if you want to get the full experience then you have to use to combos. This game is like GEARS in the fact that i couldn't stop playing it until i beat it.Gears took me about 3 days to finish this will take me about 3 days to finish also. I am on the last boss and let me tell you it's insane. This is the only game that i really cared about what happened to my character. The way they split the game between fighting and shooting is brilliant. This game in my book is a solid 10 just like Gears was.

SIX6821d ago

HS has more gameplay variety than Gears. Don't flame me. MS, or should I say EPIC, convinced me to get an xbox. I'll tell you right now that what I'm saying isn't a fanboy comment. When I first popped in gears I was like, "G@D Damn! These graphics are too much! Sony could never match this!" I loved it immediately! After playing through it about the 3rd time though you really begin to see that it offers really little depth in gameplay. Alot of it is just pretty graphics. Hardly anything is destructable. Everything is bump mapped to trick you into thinking the graphics are more impressive them it is. I still love the game though, but I find it less impressive. Now when I popped in HS I got the same feeling as I did with Gears ( System seller?Could possibly be) Only, the situation is reveresed. I now see things where I'm like,"Damn! 360 can't handle this Sh!!!t. THE GRAPHICS! My goodness! It's a new benchmark for sure (Sony needs a game that can stand up to gears. This game beats it IMO) There's too many points to this game that beats gears in the (variety of gameplay field) which I'm not going to write but I'm sure you will be hearing, or have heard, from previous posts. This game needs to be played by gamers in the same way I feel everyone needed to play Gears.

i dont know why playtime goes down all the time. most people said they neede around 7-10 hours. and will play it again on hellmode. but well i dont know. im buying the game even if it is just 5 hours. i wanna own this great peace of art. =D

Its more technical than god of war but it has similar touches.

And if you played god of war properly, you will know its not a button smasher.

The sound is crystal clear, and the graphics are pretty nice, but they should fixed the frame rate. It fluctuates,,,, but not too much.

They should have focused on epic battle bosses , then it will beat god of war.

krayon6821d ago

HEAVENLY SWORD IS A TRUE MASTERPIECE EXCEPT THE ENEMIES ARE TOO SMALL EXCEPT THE LAST ACT.THIS IS AN ARENA GAME THUS WE NEED ALOT OF ENEMIES TO FIGHT WITH.THAT WAS THE DESIGN OF THE GAME.SO IF WE WOULD HAVE BEEN GIVIN ALOT OF ENEMIES TO FIGHT WITH ,IT WOUYLD HAVE BEEN MORE HOURS BUT THERE IS SOMETIMES WHERE YOU FIGHT WITH ONLY SIX ENEMIES.NINJA THEORY WE SHOULD GET DLC WITH SURVIVAL MODE IN THE ARENAS PLEASE.

Pika-pie6821d ago

Iv just finnished chapter 2. Loving every minute of this game, its alot better than a thought it would be.

Battles have me on the edge of my seat. We all know the graphics are gorgeous but the sound is incredible, im sat in my living room surrounded by sword clanks, wooshes and bangs, really puts you in the battle. The musical score also shines.

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro802d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv72802d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

_SilverHawk_802d ago

resistance 1-3, killzone 1-3, uncharted 1-3, uncharted golden abyss, folklore, socom 4 , motorstorm, twisted metal, MAG, heavenly sword

Cacabunga802d ago

Killzone 2+3
Sly Thieves in Time
Crack in Time
God of War Ascension
Motorstorm
Modnation racer
Infamous 1+2

Profchaos802d ago (Edited 802d ago )

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt23802d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!

Iceball2000802d ago

YEAAASSSSS! I miss this franchise and wanna play it so bad again.

Father__Merrin802d ago

The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer

InUrFoxHole802d ago

The resistance series is str8 trash to me. Socom 3 I would welcome. Or killzone MP.

Marcus Fenix802d ago

A Resistance reboot will be awesome

Michiel1989802d ago

That's what Bungie should make, Ill keep saying it until it happens

1Victor802d ago (Edited 802d ago )

Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱

Michiel1989802d ago

Resistance was the best co-op fps I ever played after L4D2

Dante's inferno... an excellent GoW inspired game. So sad the sequels will never be.

LoveSpuds1305d ago (Edited 1305d ago )

I recall enjoying it well enough at the time, but it wasn't a patch on God of War 3 which came out around the same time I think.

I own it and fired it up on my PS3 about 6 months ago and time hadn't been particularly kind to it although it still very much nailed the atmosphere and it is a cool as he'll setting and universe.

Inverno1305d ago

Dante's Inferno needs the GOW treatment. No cut camera, with a real hellish depiction of the 9 circles and a story as dark and as serious would be amazing.

Yui_Suzumiya1305d ago

Still pretty amazing there was a PSP version that was actually pretty good. I remember playing it 10 years ago. I had the PS3 version when it first came out and loved it.

Hellcat20201305d ago

Ahh the memories of playing Heavenly Sword
Such a amazing experience

LoveSpuds1305d ago

Yup, I remember being blown away with Heavenly Sword. I remember holding out hope that they would go back and add trophy support as a incentive to go back and replay the game, but I don't think they ever did?

Yui_Suzumiya1305d ago

I couldn't beat the final boss though! Spent several days trying but eventually gave up, lol. Still enjoyed it though.

refocusedman1305d ago

heavenly sword was such a short, but amazing game. that game should be prime material to be made into a download only remaster.

YoungKingDoran1305d ago

I really enjoyed Castlevania, but struggled to get into it again reattempting it a few years back. I still think it does another of things well; story, presentation, level varietily and art style at least. Gameplay maybe has not stood test of time unfortunately which makes it a chore to get through.
