Would you miss boxes?

Digital distribution is probably the future, but while the benefits are clear for both publisher and consumer alike, there’s still a reluctance to firmly embrace the download only format. Let’s explore a hypothetical situation: Say that everyone who would ever buy games has a connection to the internet and retailers found a way to not be marginalized. How would you feel about downloading your games as your only purchase option?

Not bad I'd still have a bunch of animated game tiles and such. I already enjoy browsing through my psn games. If I didn't have them already I would have bought infamous and mag and lbp from it.

Dark_Charizard5656d ago

Yes, but not as much as I miss cartridges!

Shok5657d ago

Yes, I would. I like having a physical box. I like a physical collection of things. While having a game in a file format is fine and all, I just don't get the same satisfaction unless I have the box to that game sitting on my shelf. It's weird, but it's just how it is.

DavidMacDougall5656d ago

Same, plus its like putting all your eggs in one basket, if your harddrive breaks its taking all your games with it.

branchedout5656d ago

I see what you're saying, but you can re download all those eggs.

Without a harddrive you can't play disk games either way.

Though, redownloading is indeed a pain.

Commander_TK5656d ago

You'll get used to it if u game on PC. U guys who buy on Steam know what I'm talking about.

UltimateIdiot9115656d ago

Suppose something happens to your account or you hit the "download limit". Maybe something happens to the company and the servers that host the games finally shuts down.

It's just not the same as physical disc.

DavidMacDougall5656d ago

Yeah all my steam games are on my account, what happens if theres an error with the account and i lose my games, to many things can go wrong, discs keep it nice and simple.

I would be fine with it. People need to be adaptable to change.

I thought the image was a white picture at first xD

Yes, I would miss boxes. I like to have a copy, just so I have a nice collection to myself. It's like a stamp or coin collection for me.

Dazel5656d ago

I like owning something I can sell later. I keep very few games and wouldn't be able to buy half as many new games without trade ins or eBay profits.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio68d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing68d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9268d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit68d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing68d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9268d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
