Console gamers will move to PC

What would happen if more people used their PC for gaming? How would it change the industry, and are the wheels already in motion as a result of Kinect and Move alienating hardcore gamers? A new wave of hybrid gamers will emerge.

ingiomar5600d ago (Edited 5600d ago )

Uhmm... no

i love my controller and not worrying about system requirements

Agent-865600d ago (Edited 5600d ago )

Why not have both? System requirements aren't that hard to figure out plus you can use controllers on a PC. I like having a gaming PC and a PS3, so I have access to plenty of great games. Having just one platform is too limiting to me. Everyone who can afford it should own two: a console plus gaming PC or two consoles.

5600d ago
piroh5600d ago

"Having just one platform is too limiting to me"
you would need 3 lives to buy and play all of the PS3 exclusives and multiplats

btw, PC gamers are keen on internet minigames, strategies etc. console gamers play every other genres excluding strategies. they are simply 2 different groups

cakeisalie5600d ago

@M_Jack_H

Its not about Buying the hardware alone. Sure console hardware costs cheaper then PC hardware by a few hundered usd. However PC games are much cheaper.

In the long run Console gaming is expensive.

You should check out the deals on Steam, Console game prices will look like a joke then. The few hundered USD hardware price difference can easily be made up with game price differences.

deafwing5600d ago (Edited 5600d ago )

absolutely refuse to go back to pc gaming;
I was there for 10 years
I had enough
f dat
sorry
no

i may have spent several grands on pc rig purchasing and maintenance alone ... and when you're into pc gaming, you are pirating games (period); i don't know one pc gamer that hasn't "obtained" a game for free (steam or no steam)

5600d ago
reynod5600d ago

@Deadwing

Games can be pirated on any Console too. I personally buy all my games on Steam. After the recent holidays i have nearly 100 games on Steam. Having the same games on Console will cost alot more then the hardware price differences between Console and PC.

Console gaming being cheaper is a myth. PC hardware doesnt need upgrades, even if you are having 3-4 yr old hardware because most games i made with Consoles as the lowest denominator in mind and yea all of us know how old console hardware is.

Retro_Zombie5600d ago

Games were meant to be played with a controller.

Pandamobile5600d ago

Certain games, yes.

FPS Games, RTS games, point and click adventure games, ect, no.

imvix5600d ago

Trying to play FPS, RTS or MMOs with a controller is like trying to write with boxing gloves on. Mouse + KB all the way.

VenomProject5600d ago

@people having trouble playing FPS games with a controller

Do you guys have hand-eye coordination issues? It's not that hard.

As for games being less expensive on Steam- Yeah, that's cool. I bought Amnesia: The Dark Descent for like $20 on Steam not too long ago. But I still prefer to have a hard copy version of every game I own.

Mayhaps I'm just not "down with it." Mayhaps I'm just not trendy enough to realize the joys of digital download. Who knows...

I'll take the physical copy over the digital copy any day.

Ranshak5600d ago (Edited 5600d ago )

@Venomproject

I bought the following gmaes of Steam on discount:

Metro 2033 5usd
Mafia 2 12usd
witcher 5usd
Amnesia 9usd
Dead space 9usd
Lara croft 3.6usd
Darsiders 9usd

And some others. Go on tell me how much would those have cost me on console? I can tell ya it would have been alot more thats for sure.

AKS5600d ago

@deafwing

You just accused a lot of people of doing something I'm very much against, pirating video games. I have 140 games on Steam alone, and I don't need to steal anything when games are already cheapest on PC.

I just bought Bad Company 2 for $6.80 and Aliens v. Predator for $5. All of Valve's games in the Valve Complete Pack were on sale for $24.99. I do not steal anything and take offense to that accusation.

BloodyNapkin5600d ago

@reynod

Seriously, i have steam and it is way cheaper for me to buy new release through gamefly plain and simple. Steam is great for people that want to buy old games.

reynod5600d ago

@Bloodynapkin

Most people today dont have the money to be buying all games at release. Specially theres a ton of games getting released every month, its easy to miss alot of them specially when on console they all sell for 60usd and prices for console versions take a long time to come down.

Steam has some major sale going every 3-4 months, not to mention the game of the week deals or the weekend deals. I have bought so many games last year just 2-3months after release prices like 10-15usd. An example being:

Bioshock 2 for 14usd 2months after launch
Metro 2033 23usd about 2 months after launch.

Impossible to get those prices anywhere else asides D2D maybe. I personally no longer buy games at launch, unless its a must have game like:

Witcher 2 or portal 2 this year, anything else i buy will be on discounts.

BloodyNapkin5600d ago

@reynod

Thats nice i pay 20 to 30 bucks for brand new launch titles, for my PS3. And if the game isnt worth a crap i dont spend any money and send it back and get a different game. Except for the minor fee i pay.

Moentjers5600d ago

if you want to spend the time and money on it.

1 PS3 does the work for me, the rest of the money goes to games, games, games and... games !

Dee_915599d ago

lol i still cant get over this
how pc gamers are trying to convert console gamers
Then turn aound and disagree with them because of their personal preferences

if being a pc gamer put me in that mind set i would rather stay a console gamer

this is just crazy
i would never tell a pc gamer he or she should convert to console and then argue with them because of their opinion

am i the only one who see this childish s#it lol

Console gamers will migrate to PC under certain conditions but it doesn't mean they have to stop enjoying consoles as most PC gamers do both.

1. They get older, get a job and can afford to build their own PC or buy one.

2. Console gamer get more and more into level design on a few games then moves to Homebrew which leads to modding which then leads the console gamer wanting to be a developer therefore modding games on PC is the start.

3. The type of games they enjoy changes. If they get into MMO's or RTS then bye bye console or they want more realism and control in their games well PC is the way to go.

4. If you love tinkering with your PC then PC gaming just happens because making your PC faster is usually to make video perform better which leads to you being in the console editor (Tilda key) of your favorite PC game.

For me I heard so much about Half Life 2 that when I was building my first rig I made sure it could max it out. Built my PC bought Half Life 2 and it blew my mind and I have been PC gaming ever since. Hell to this day I still have never finished San Andreas as it was the last console game that I bought but I still console game every now and then.

Agent-865600d ago (Edited 5600d ago )

For me, the first rig I made was to play BF1942 and the fantastic Desert Combat Mod (which heavily influenced BF2). A few years later, I made my first upgrade so I could play Half Life 2 and BF2 maxed out. Those two games alone made me a PC gamer for life.

Oh, funny thing, like your post mentioned, I started as a console gamer. First one was a Genesis, then the PSone and later a PS2. Once I got into PC gaming in '02, though, I started playing the consoles less, so I held off the current gen consoles. I finally got a PS3 in the fall of '09 when the Slim was introduced along with the price drop. PS3 just had too many great looking exclusives for me to pass up on anymore. I still game more on PC, but the PS3 does make a great "sidekick".

vickers5005600d ago (Edited 5600d ago )

I've had a gaming rig for about a year now (built it myself), and I find it hard to enjoy any game besides WoW.

I absolutely HATE keyboard and mouse controls, they're so damn uncomfortable and it's like I have to concentrate on the controls rather than the actual game, like making sure my fingers don't get repositioned and have to look at my keyboard again to get them in the right position.

Sure, you can use controllers on a PC, but they're a f*cking joke, and a massively different experience than if you were using the controller on a console, so the whole "just use a controller on the pc" argument is a very very crappy one, and holds very little weight.

I love tinkering with my PC. I'm not that big into making my own levels and other things, so I don't really care about mods that much.

Console gamers will never switch to PC if they don't fix the issues with the controls. Developers would need to program their games to use controllers PROPERLY. I can go into almost any PC game with a DS3 right now and use it for that game, but it controls like utter sh*t and is COMPLETELY different from using a controller on a console.

Controller vs. KB/M is a subjective issue, you can't look at it and say that one is better than the other. KB/M is much more accurate and much easier to aim with (which also means less of a challenge), while a controller is way more comfortable and has force feedback right in your palms, which honestly, I cannot live without, so controller all the way for me.

But the day that PC devs actually program all their games to work PROPERLY on a controller and when some of my friends actually start getting into PC gaming (and also when the PC gets better exclusives), well that's the day I'll probably move over to PC gaming, but until then, I'm primarily a console gamer.

Resistance5600d ago

Same deal for me except the game that persuaded me to pc gaming was team fortress 2. I had to make sure my first custom rig could run it mazed out no exceptions lol

toaster5600d ago (Edited 5600d ago )

@ vickers

ROFL dude. You don't know the basic layout of a keyboard? What are you typing on right now? If anything a keyboard is more streamlined than a controller. For FPS, the main buttons fit to your hand. And guess what if they don't, the game has this thing called options. I know it's very hard for a console gamer to fathom, but PC games gives you options on your control preference.

Why would programmers want to waste resources coding their game to fit a controller? That's where the user comes in. PC games don't all fit on a controller. The controller only has so many actions. On PC, you can literally have 101 actions (101 being the typical amount of keys on a regular keyboard) each mapped to a different key. Of course few games actually make use of every single key, so that gives you the option to place actions where you want them on the keyboard. If you have abnormally long fingers, good luck changing the size of the controller. On PC, you can map functions to suit your hands and finger reach.

I find it kind of pathetic that you can't live without a little rumble in your controller.. that is such a petty thing to complain about. How about responsiveness? I'd take that over a controller and that is exactly the advantage keyboard has. Responsiveness, especially in mechanical keyboards, is super quick. Little to no input lag at all depending on what keyboard. And that brings it back to the other point, customization and preference. I'd take controls suited to my hand rather than a little rumble every time something blows up :P

PC has great exclusives, dunno what you're smoking. Much higher quality games that require a little bit more thinking than the usual console game. It's just a fact that most PC gamers are older and can afford to sustain multiple systems. I myself own 3 gaming platforms and PC is my preference due to the sheer amount of options at my fingertips. It truly is the platform that does everything.

Imalwaysright5600d ago

@ Toaster That is bullshit. Quality of games is defined by the quality of the developers and if you say that console developers like: ND, Myamoto, Kojima, Team Ico (just to name a few because there are plenty more) arent some of the most talented developers in the industry then i got to say that imo you dont have good taste in games.

vickers5005599d ago

"You don't know the basic layout of a keyboard? What are you typing on right now? If anything a keyboard is more streamlined than a controller. For FPS, the main buttons fit to your hand."

Yeah, I do know the basic layout of a keyboard, it's just not that easy to place your 3 fingers on WASD without looking. And more streamlined my a$$. All that's required for me to actually move with a controller is ONE THUMB. Not having 3 fingers assigned to one very simple action frees up quite a bit of space and concentration so you can actually focus on aiming/crouching/taking cover, etc.

"And guess what if they don't, the game has this thing called options. I know it's very hard for a console gamer to fathom, but PC games gives you options on your control preference."

The keyboard feels like sh*t no matter how you map out the buttons.

"Why would programmers want to waste resources coding their game to fit a controller?"

This may be hard for you to fathom, but not everybody shares the same preferences that you do. Shocking, I know, but it's the truth.

"PC games don't all fit on a controller."

Almost everything except MMOs, RTS games, and a few other games do.

"I find it kind of pathetic that you can't live without a little rumble in your controller.. that is such a petty thing to complain about."

Sorry, I actually like to feel like I'm shooting a gun when I'm playing a game, it provides a level of immersion for me that my PC has yet to even come close to (PC feels more like I'm running an application, not a game).

"How about responsiveness?"

I don't know how it works for you, but the games I play with the controller are pretty damned responsive. Since mice are so responsive and so accurate, it makes things way too easy and not challenging or realistic in the slightest. It's boring as hell, just mouse over enemies head and click a button, WOOOOOO, I'm so talented /s. Not to mention, you have to sit in a single position when PC gaming, you can't really shuffle around in your seat to make yourself more comfortable like you can effortlessly do with a controller.

"PC has great exclusives, dunno what you're smoking."

It doesn't have the exclusives I prefer. No ratchet and clank, uncharted, sly cooper, metal gear solid, killzone, resistance, warhawk, littlebigplanet, infamous, bad company 1, BF1943, Red Dead Redemption (at least not yet), valkyria chronicles, 3d dot game heroes, saints row 1 or 2, god of war, team ico games, etc.

You could probably list a bunch of exclusives of "higher quality" than the ones I listed, but it really wouldn't matter, because a game (for me at least) is always going to be hindered when using KB/M controls, and there's nothing I can do about that, it's a preference I can't change no matter how hard I try, and I know a LOT of people like me, so I'm not the minority.

"It's just a fact that most PC gamers are older and can afford to sustain multiple systems. I myself own 3 gaming platforms and PC is my preference due to the sheer amount of options at my fingertips."

I own a PS3, a 360, and a gaming PC, yet I prefer to do my gaming on consoles. Obviously PC has more options, but none of those options (for me) make up for the uncomfortable controls PC has.

I've tried to enjoy PC gaming, I really have (I spent 980 bucks building a gaming pc and two weeks of my time replacing the defective parts they sent me), but I have so far only had fun with World of Warcraft and Half Life 2.

WhiteNoise5600d ago (Edited 5600d ago )

@ingiomar

I have a 360 control and I don't have to worry about system requirements....you know why? because games have settings.

I guarantee you that if you could buy PS4 games when it drops, turn the settings down and play it on your PS3..that PS4 adoption rates would be 20% of what they would have been.

I also use my HDTV for gaming and my home surround system ( 400 watt fronts 30-35000hz response, check your system specs ;) )

http://img32.imageshack.us/...

Oh but I forgot, we PC gamers are stuck in front of a 17" monitor right? :S

Jesus H christ it's good to have choice.

@Agent-86

Yeah it's a good TV, KDL-EX400. I don't care what anyone says I still go into stores and can't find a TV that looks as clear as mine. My GF's brother bought a brand new 55" LG 3D TV it's LED 200hz etc etc and it looks like crap. The pixel pitch on 55" TV's is so big that unless you have unbelivably bad eye sight, or sit literally 6 metres away, it looks really pixelated. 3D is also overrated.

40-46" is best for gaming.

Agent-865600d ago (Edited 5600d ago )

Nice set up. I have something similar: a 40" LCDTV with a PC and PS3 hooked up. I have it all on a large desk in my room. We have a larger 51" TV in the living room that I bring the PS3 down when we have guests that would like to game (I have two sets of PS3 wires, making it really easy).

BloodyNapkin5600d ago

I play onseveral different setups.

Cinema pro 8100 projector that does 1440p
With B&W speakers and denon reciever along with 2 1,000 watt amps and a 600 watt polk sub. Which i will upgrade sometime.

@WhiteNoise
Man clean those cords up.....

HolyOrangeCows5600d ago (Edited 5600d ago )

*Looks at PS3 2011 lineup*
Riiiiiight, I'm going to have to run to PC to get my hardcore, non-motion gaming fix.
No.

But the next gen will sux, right? *Looks at 3DS*
Or not.

And besides, unless DRM goes away (And thanks to delusional publishers and investors....never), games start being better optimized for systems (Again, thanks to every PC being different....never), and we start seeing more and better PC exclusives (And since MS doesn't care about PC gaming enough to secure PC exclusives....again, never) I'll never bother with PC gaming.

"Really, the older I get, the more I like my Lazyboy"
[Insert explanation that you can play PC games on a couch and TV just as easy, and even if that were the case, it would still be the least of PC gaming's problems]

.
Retort:
"Tbh, I never get the "I only game on one platform" argument"
I do hope you aren't suggesting that I said anything of the sort.

"but that is offset by the fact that any multiplat game that comes to PC is better on PC 9/10 times"
.....ummm...no. If I can still play the same game, I don't really give a flying crap that I'm not playing it in 1600p and 200fps. Multiplats are multiplats.

"including the DRM side of things. Even AC2"
So that leash is comfortable, eh? That's nice.

distorted_reality5600d ago (Edited 5600d ago )

DRM - hasn't been an issue for me for years (probably since Mass Effect). Am a huge supporter of Steam and everything that entails - including the DRM side of things. Even AC2 (which imposes a constant online connection to Ubi's servers, and which I was totally against when I heard about it) is easy to deal with - I completely forget about it once i'm gaming, hasn't been a hindrance at all.

Optimization - the only game with terrible optimization recently has been Black Ops, and I tend to think it's more terrible coding on Treyarch's part than anything else. Having said that, we've had it running on three different rigs here (an e6400 with a 4870, an e8500 with a 260+, and my rig which is a Phenom Hexcore with crossfired 6870s) without any real issues, with both lower end rigs able to hold a pretty much constant 60 fps with vsync on. Other than that, the big releases over the past few years have been fine, able to run on 5-6 year old hardware without a problem.

Exclusives - I'll agree that there aren't many exclusives going around (especially now that Valve are doing more console stuff), but that is offset by the fact that any multiplat game that comes to PC is better on PC 9/10 times, with the obvious exception being EA's sporting range of games.

Tbh, I never get the "I only game on one platform" argument. When there are so many brilliant games spread across all platforms, it doesn't make any sense to stick with a single platform. We've got the 3 main computers, a PS3 and a 360, and I game on my GF's Wii when i'm at her place. If more people were a little open minded, the gaming industry would be a much better place.

edit -

".....ummm...no. If I can still play the same game, I don't really give a flying crap that I'm not playing it in 1600p and 200fps. Multiplats are multiplats."

I wasn't talking solely about looks, scroll down to LMS' post to check out some of the other reasons. But yes, having a game look like it really should is a bonus :P

"So that leash is comfortable, eh? That's nice."

Lol, a console gamer talking about a leash? Oxymoron much? When you compare the leash that's around your neck to the one that is around mine, I think you'll find yours is a tighter fit. Each to their own though.

"I do hope you aren't suggesting that I said anything of the sort. "

No, that wasn't directed at you, just a general thought that always comes up in threads like these.

Ranshak5600d ago (Edited 5600d ago )

@HolyOrangeCows

Consoles themselves are a DRM, How are those PS2 games running on the PS3 Slim? Will PS3 games work on PS4?(you got no gaurantees they will), if they dont think about all the investment lost on current games bought and by BC i dont mean buying upressed HD remakes.

With PC, gamers can actually buy games cheaper and end up having a library.

WhiteNoise5600d ago (Edited 5600d ago )

@HolyOrangeCows

No need for hyperbole to try to downplay PC's advantages.

The majority of my games have no DRM, those that do...have cracks. ;)

Let's settle for a more reasonable example as to settings/performance.

Eg. My i7-870 ( 18 month old tech ) and my GTX480, which is 10 months old. I run 99.99999999999% of my games with at least a 60 frame MINIMUM with 32CSAA at 1080p maxed.

That's not a 60 frame average ( aka frame dips which console gamers are so used to ) that is minimum frames.

all 60 frames MIN with 32csaa or higher

The Witcher
Dragon Age ( 32CSAA + 8TRSAA )
Demigod
Supreme Commander 2
Farcry 2
Resident Evil 5
DMC4
SFIV
Starcraft 2
Mass Effect 1/2
Bioshock 1/2 ( 32CSAA + 8TRSAA )
Dead Space
Fallout 3
Batman AA
FEAR 2
Dirt 2

and so on...

These are some of my screenshots, again....PC gaming is totally overrated brua!

@WhiteNoise

No reason to downplay the PS3 main advantage over PC, which all PC gamers try to forget or push to the side while they talk about AA, resolution and such. Is games man, can play UC1,2 or 3 on PC or how about GOW? Or maybe GT5? And the list goes on and on. For me PS3 has games i really want and love and the PC not so much. Sure the PC can produce better graphics but it can not produce better games.

WhiteNoise5599d ago

@BloodyNapkin

"but it can not produce better games"

Yeah...because your completely subjective argument is way more rational than my objective FACTS about performance and visuals.

In my opinion console exclusives are all generic cookie cutter 'action' games. Whether it be a linear 6 hour hack and slash. Or a linear FPS game with a painfully low 55 FOV, or a linear tomb raider rip off.

Listing every exclusive released in a year does not make them good. There are more games released on PC each year than any other platform. Just look at TGS...a country that primarily plays console games...still had more PC games at TGS than all the other platforms.

There would be lucky to be 5 exclusives on a console each year worth buying ( if you are not delusional and don't just buy games because the PR team said it's cool ). Of those games there is NOTHING original. KZ2, UC2....what is original about them? Nothing.

On PC you have flight sims and RTS games that are constantly evolving unlike other more console esque genres like TPS games which never change.

A game like Dragon Age was tactical like all PC RPG's are and console gamers couldn't handle it because the inferior control is not suited to anything more than 4 quick slot spells ;)

Quess what, DA2 on consoles is now a hack and slash action RPG and on PC it is still just as tactical.

It is not just the graphics that are ahead on PC. It is the gameplay, the game difficulty, the interface, the customisation. Everything is better on PC.

My favourite games are not on PC... it's that simple. I only play RTS & FPS on PC.

Vherostar5600d ago

Console gamers prefer consoles due to the initial layout being cheaper. Sure games are more expensive but the console itself is a lot cheaper. If you can buy a PC that can run a game that looks as good as on my PS3 for the same price let me know. You cant plus people like to sit on there couch and play on there huge TV's too. I also think the thought of upgrading every 3-4 years doesn't suit everybody either to stay on top of games.

I mean I have a gaming PC (just bought an upgrade) and a PS3 but not all like PC for games.

toaster5600d ago

$500 will play games in 1080p at 60FPS. Most people already have a PC, so upgrading the video card ($100-$150 will get you great FPS in beyond HD resolutions like 1920x1200).

Protip: you can hook up computers to a TV ;)

BloodyNapkin5600d ago

Games are not more expensive on console if you know what you are doing. Unless you just steal them on the PC then ya.

distorted_reality5600d ago (Edited 5600d ago )

320GB PS3 from EB Games = $599 http://www.ebgames.com.au/p...

VS

e5400 = $69 http://www.msy.com.au/produ...

ASrock mobo = $43 http://www.msy.com.au/produ...

TEAM 2GB 800mhz = $32 http://www.msy.com.au/produ...

Hitachi 500gb HDD = $43 http://www.msy.com.au/produ...

HIS 6850 = $199 http://www.msy.com.au/produ...

LG DVD RW = $22 http://www.msy.com.au/produ...

Collermaster case with PSU = $74 http://www.msy.com.au/produ...

Windows 7 = $99 http://www.msy.com.au/produ...

Logitech KB+M = $25 http://www.msy.com.au/produ...

Total - $606

Not top of the range by any means, but would be capable of running most if not all current PC games comfortably, and with a nice CPU OC, a chunkier GPU, maybe a couple more gigs of ram, you're looking at a decent gaming rig.

And that's from scratch. As toaster said, most people have a PC that is able to be upgraded into something decent for much cheaper.

Fyi, you can run a PC through a TV the same as you do any console, and with a wireless KB+M you're not constrained to sitting right up against the screen.

The price argument is completely moot at this point.

2Spock5600d ago

@distorted_reality

We need poster dunces of the month. And make distorted the first one. Really a 599.00 PS3, how about i just bought a brand new slim for 249.00 and bought a 500 gig drive from newegg for 70 bucks to put in it. Which is 320.00...

And secondly your PC does not have a wireless card nor a blu ray drive in it. Also i need a wireless controller. And how well do you think that would run lets say Uncharted2 or 3? Or what about GT5? Would you get good framerates for GodofWar?

distorted_reality5600d ago

I'm going off Aus prices - not my problem that Vherostar didn't specify exactly how much in what currency he was talking about, but I chose a 500GB so it would be comparable HDD wise.

As to the other points - wireless card, you can pick one up for ~$10 AU. A BluRay burner cost me about ~$90 AU, a BluRay player is about ~$50 if you don't want a burner, a wireless controller wouldn't be much at all, maybe ~$30?

That computer would (theoretically) run the games listed just as well (and with some upgrades, much better) than a PS3.

As I, and other have said though, most people have a computer sitting around the house that is upgradeable, and that makes the equation even easier. Spend ~$200 on a good graphics card and you're good to go.

The whole point is though is that this myth that PC gaming is more expensive and that you need to spend thousands to get to console performance is bs. The difference in pricing for games more than negates the extra $150 for the parts you wanted.

It's your cash and your choice, but the myth is completely without any basis in fact. As i've said before, I don't see the reason for the argument in the first place. Gaming on more than a single platform is good. Gaming on a single platform is pretty silly.

NOT GONNA HAPPEN!!!!! this article is full of fail,not everyone has the luxury building a pc.not many console gamers are use to gaming with keyboard and mouse.please show the #,s of how many cosole gamers making this switch to PC?

imvix5600d ago

Actually it is, recently more and more of my friends are jumping to PC gaming.

First because all of us are in the mid 20's age, second because PC gaming is just so cost effective. We hardly buy games for consoles anymore aside the few exclusives a year.

drsnobby5600d ago

At the current price point,to get the most out of PC gaming your gonna spend a good amount of money to run PC games oh high.

hassi945600d ago

I have recently (past 9 months) been playing more and more on my newly built PC and less on my Xbox 360.

I still use a controller on most games, like action games and stuff. But I'm starting to use mouse on fps (sometimes I still like controller, I still beat people with mouse most of the time).

There's so many more options. I needed a new PC that was gonna cost me £200 minimum, I spent £400 altogether (extra £200) and now it is a fairly high end gaming PC. So it's not really that expensive.

I still like to have both options available.

Bigpappy5600d ago

They are not going anywhere. Kinect or Move will not run away core gamers. They will just ignore what they don't want like they always have.

Agent-865600d ago

I love having a gaming PC and a console (PS3). That way, I get the best of both worlds.

ATi_Elite5600d ago (Edited 5600d ago )

This is the attitude of Hardcore gamers. They have a gaming PC and all the consoles. Stalker God of war 3 Metroid Other M and Reach are all great games that should be played.

If you can afford it get everything and get your game on. I sacrificed console gaming to build a super PC cause I'm always on it multitasking but luckily the little spoiled brats next door let me console game anytime I want for fixing their PC.

but if you can only afford one platform then go with what makes you happy. I just get mad when people who don't PC game say stupid stuff like "PC gaming is for gaming alone at a desk" when they never been to a LAN party before.

No one looks alone here!

Great post Krayzie Bone. Multi-platform gaming is the way to go. For me, I'm primarily a PC gamer, but I got a PS3 as a "sidekick" because of it's great exclusives. 360 seemed redundant for me since a lot of their exclusives are also on PC which left very few that appealed to me to justify a purchase (plus the yearly fee didn't help). The Wii isn't in HD so that's a big turnoff for me.

However, that doesn't mean I don't respect the other consoles or it's gamers. It was just, for my situation, the PS3 made the most sense as a complement to my PC gaming. Whichever way you go, though, I believe it's best having more than one gaming platform.

Bolts5600d ago (Edited 5600d ago )

Having both is the way to go that's for sure, PS3 + gaming PC = perfect gaming setup. I pity the gamers who can't experience the best of both worlds.

MultiConsoleGamer5600d ago

The writer is absolutely wrong. There will always be a console market. Consoles are for social gamers, people who like to play games in the living room with friends. Not alone in front of a desk.

distorted_reality5600d ago

Is funny that i've heard console gamers say they have no need for dedicated servers, not even bothering to listen to the arguments for them, and then call themselves social gamers, not realizing that the best part about dedicated servers is the communities that grow up around them.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing11d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9211d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit11d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing11d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9211d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
