Nvidia Tegra: A Game-Changer in Mobile

Ripten: Mobile gaming is a niche market that, until recently, was mostly comprised of card games and Tetris spin-offs. The graphics made 8-bit look good. Apple changed all that with the original iPhone, which was capable of pumping out some pretty decent graphics. The trend has continued, with each successive iOS device bringing more graphics power to the table, and better games that take advantage of that power.

This is the kick in the pants mobile needs

RageAgainstTheMShine5603d ago (Edited 5603d ago )

iOS has a new competition!

we are glad the PS3 GPU is made by Nvidia so in the near future we can play online-multi-player games with other gamers using Tegra II powered Android superphones, Android tablets and the PSP 2.

Nintendo should have made the 3DS powered by Nvidia too.

Sony+Google+Nvidia FTW!

Mobile gaming is really getting awesome. Now if they could make these phones conect via blue tooth to a TV and a controller...

dkblackhawk505603d ago

Ahh, playing a game on an airplane...epic!

kevco335603d ago

I'm pretty impressed with some of the tuff we're getting right now, to be honest. ilomilo looks just as good on WP7 as it does on XBLA.

topgeareasy5603d ago (Edited 5603d ago )

don't forget about PowerVR Series5XT (SGXMP)

Ju5603d ago

Seeing is believing. They play constant catch up. Nobody every saw any PowerVR (or Qualcoms new Adreno gen) chip which supposedly beats NVidia. I would rather trust one of the top GPU designers rather than the guys who actually lost in the past. Good luck to them, though. Competition is good. Maybe now that Tegra2 is available they will step it up, finally.

Hello, I'm the author of this news post.

I used the term "apparently" to avoid any unintentional error. While I confirmed it with an industry analyst that Tegra revenue numbers did increase thanks to Switch sales, just wanted to make sure any trolls didn't have firepower since most people on this website (and others) love to only read headlines and never actually view the full stories.

Cobra9513194d ago

Old writer here. I suggest using more assertive language in headlines, even when you need to hedge your bets. "Apparently" makes what it modifies seem shaky, or even illusive. An alternative would be "according to [this source]" or similar.

I understand your point. I'm only questioning the methods used to address it.

AKR3194d ago

@Cobra951: Appreciate the feedback. I'll be more mindful of my titles in future posts.

InTheZoneAC3195d ago

was revenue supposed to decline when you sell a product?

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3195d ago

This article title is wrong and not what actually happened.
It not apparently. It did boost the revenue by a lot.

AKR3194d ago

The title isn't wrong, I made sure to write it out that way in order to avoid getting any flack from trolls that love to only read article headlines and not view the full story. That happens a lot on this website and others.

Step 1: Sell millions of chips to Nintendo

Step 2: Nintendo sells millions of Switches to customers

Step 3: Profits increase !?!?

Who would have guessed that would be the outcome. Welcome to business 101 everyone !!

TheUndertaker853195d ago

So Nvidia makes profit on already sold chips because Nintendo then sells the Switch and hands Nvidia more money? For what? Nintendo already paid for the chips.

Business 101 my ass.

InTheZoneAC3195d ago

I know what you're saying and I'm not assuming the OP meant how you stated, but at the same time constant production after the initial shipment does follow the OP's statement.

porkChop3195d ago (Edited 3195d ago )

Uh, what? The point is that the sales continue, so Nvidia keeps producing more chips for Nintendo because the Switch keeps selling. Continued sales of chips means Nvidia's profits go up.

CaptainN3195d ago

Lol, you obviously have taken the whole point of my comment out of context and misconstrued it to fit your unwarranted objection!

I suggest before coming with a rebuttal to a comment, you actually try to comprehend what the original comments goal was trying to achieve. Obviously sarcasm was something you missed growing up.

And btw,I never said Nintendo hands them "more money" for the chips they already purchased from them. But like others have stated, more chips will be bought after the initial batch, so yes the more Switches Nintendo sells, the more chips they buy, which means more profit for Nividia !!

Business101 is now in session!!

Rolling the Dice: Do Modern RPGs Miss the Point of Team-Based Play?

It seems it was long time ago. A bunch of friends spending hours on end playing RPG games, sitting around the table with the box of cold pizza. Excited about the story, listening to the Game Master, they were completely engaged in the worlds only visible to them and their imaginations.

The GM is the programmer, and in MMOs and co-ops, you can play with others. If you want to ONLY use your imagination for the visuals, read a book.

1) Hope they put it on disc this time.
2) Hope this is a positive for Neptune coming over as well.

Demons Souls5817d ago

If so, that's being developed & published by Idea Factory. Compile Heart has nothing to do with it (Thank God for that).

Godmars2905817d ago (Edited 5817d ago )

Thought Compile Heart was one of the companies lending characters.

Was also speaking in general as in regards to a US of Neptune. If these guys are offing a second game, NIS or Atlus, both of whom offer quirkier titles, will put that one out.

@kagon01:
My issue isn't - wholly - with the DL-only option, but the price. The first game should be $30. Maybe $40, and by that I mean $39.99. The only reason its $45 is the 360 disc version which has extras. Nevermind that by all rights its a PS2 game. Something that proabbly could have been done if the devs had the GOW2 engine or tools.

ClownBelt5817d ago

I approve of this god damn message.

Could have gotten my 60 bucks if they just put it on a disc.

Another exclusive damnn the ps3 keeps on rollin wit games awesome ;)

Jack-Pyro5817d ago

Is this a half decent SRPG, porn aside, cause if it is, i might just decide to go and buy it for the 360.

Anon73495817d ago

There's no porn just some sexual innuendos but that's it.

Also it is a great game by itself, maybe not graphically but everything else is top tier.

RedDevils5817d ago

so it had some kind of "top tier" porn story jk

ThanatosDMC5817d ago

Yup, it's a decent game. I just hate that a move has to go first before any attack options.
