Thief 4 set for GDC reveal?

Thief 4 (or 'Thi4f') looks set for a GDC reveal late next month, after Square Enix announced a talk on the game's audio by staffer Paul Weir.

The session, titled 'Stealing Sound: Generative Music in THIEF', will mark "the first time that the game has been spoken about," reads its GDC blurb.

I fear it will be easy to play, I loved first two, hardcore stuff.

MAJ0R5631d ago

probably will be dumbed down

lastdual5631d ago (Edited 5631d ago )

Thief 2 remains the best true stealth game ever. I really, really hope they don't dumb it down (or "action it up") to appeal to the braindead masses.

That said, the new Deus Ex does look promising (and true to the spirit of the original), so that gives me some hope.

agree, I have always found Splinter Cell and MGS stealth dynamics (the way AI operates and you work around them) to be much inferior to the Thief series

Theif 4, Deus Ex 3 - all they need is to announce Grim Fandango 2. One can dream, I suppose.

te-rarded down for console gamers.

Console gaming kills off another great franchise.

GWAVE5631d ago (Edited 5631d ago )

If they're giving it the same affection and respect as they're giving Deus Ex, then it may turn out great.

Who would have thought that Eidos - of all the studios - may actually be the ones to somewhat redeem Square Enix in the eyes of gamers with Thief and Deus Ex?

Edit @ Neckbear
I can't speak for "many old Deus Ex fans", only myself, as an old Deus Ex fan. I'm exited for the changes. Deus Ex is great, but it also suffers from many archaic game mechanics. The devs mentioned that "health regen" was intentional: they didn't want players to scrounge through levels looking for medpaks, and I agree with their decision. The "cover system" was intentional: they wanted stealth to be more than simply "turn on cloak shield".

I hardly consider the new game a "generic first person shooter" when you can complete the game while only killing the handful of bosses. I hardly consider it generic when you're doing just as much NPC interaction and investigation as you're shooting a gun.

But hey, I can't force you to like the game. If the so-called "Deus Ex fans" want to pull a "Fallout 3" and complain about every little change, then so be it. I'm going to sit down and enjoy me a new Deus Ex title.

Neckbear5631d ago (Edited 5631d ago )

They aren't giving Deus Ex much respect, though.

Hell, even in the Forums, the Admin had to ask people to stop talking (well, more like badmouthing) the game and how it was getting "up with the times".

This means, of course, Health Regeneration, Cover Systems, etc.

In fact, many old Deus Ex fans are getting pissed off because Human Revolution looks like a generic first person shooter, and how the development teams bullshits their way out of questions related to that.

@GWAVE:

Let me ask you a question.

While playing the original Deus Ex, did you have to look around for medpacks?

No, right?

Yeah. That's what I was reffering when I said they "bullshit their way out of those questions". You don't have to look around for medpacks, you already have one or two in your inventory. In fact, what truly breaks the pace of the firefights is having to hide for five seconds to take away the strawberry jam from your face.

But hey, that's how fans are.

God forbid they make any changes instead of rehashing the same shit that was done before.

Well, I'm on neither side, however, as Human Revolution doesn't interest me at all.

I loved Thief 3 on Xbox. One of my favourite titles last gen. Hope this one has the same atmospheric and story-based feel.

gillri5631d ago

please I loved all 3, Shalebridge Cradle was an awesome level

is the game still worth palying ???
I am thinking of buying all 3 games later this year

mrmikew20185631d ago

I never played any of the"Thief" games, are they any good? A while ago someone told me it's similar to the MGS series (gameplay wise)

lastdual5631d ago (Edited 5631d ago )

They're only vaguely similar. MGS is action-stealth in 3rd person. Thief is hardcore stealth in 1st person. Garrett, the main character, is *just* a thief. He's no highly trained soldier or assassin. You really have to rely on being sneaky and knowing when to run and hide.

Truth be told, there isn't really anything like Thief on the current gen consoles. The closest in feeling would maybe be some of the stealth sections in Riddick...

thief5631d ago

In both MGS and Splinter Cell, at least on easy, you can get away with firefights with the enemy. Not in Thief, you need to plan so that you can pick off the enemy one by one without being seen. And the story is top-notch, among the best in any game series.

FlyShootRaceSims5631d ago (Edited 5631d ago )

The Thief series is a proper stealth game. You can't go arrows-blazing, or sword-swinging to enemies numbering more than one, or else you will die. The pacing is what you would expect from a stealth game. It's a stealth game but be prepared to be scared, horrified, and shit-your-pants terrified Lol.

Thief - Taken From Us Too Soon

The Thief game series has had many ups-and-downs, and 2014's reboot showed a great deal of promise nearly a decade ago.

Notellin1044d ago

This would be such a great franchise to reboot. A darker game than Dishonored, but focused around stealth and large scale heists from an oppressive monarchy.

That's probably my dream game. I love immersive sims and stealth!

Noskypeno1044d ago

People say they hate forced stealth sections in games. But a game focused on stealth with good mechanics and level design feels refreshing from the guns blazing games which I also enjoy. I really enjoyed playing Splinter cell, a game that not many try to mimic today. Not too many games let you shoot lights out, or throw cans or bottles to distract guards. Sure there are games with stealth options like the new Wolfenstein but it doesn't feel necessary to play it that way. Hitman might be the only game that has that feeling, except for that Korean game that may or may not ever come out.

isarai1043d ago

You should try the Sniper Elite games, so good, especially with coop

Notellin1043d ago

Same here. I'm glad there are some other people who enjoy these types of games!

@isarai I tried Sniper Elite 5 and ended up really enjoying that one. Went back and played 4 as well!.

ModsDoBetter1044d ago (Edited 1044d ago )

The last one was a trainwreck and has been in the bargain bin since just after launch. If they bring it back, they need a massive change in direction.

Inverno1044d ago

only direction they should take is putting it in reverse and going back to what the originals did. I couldn't finish this game, and I made a choice to never play it again. I watched a video about the og Thief and Deus Ex games and the current AAA standard will forever hold back these games. These 2 games alone had already solved so many problems with modern gaming that I don't think they'll get a chance at something great unless they're made by a dev that actually give a damn.

monkey6021044d ago

Jesus the last installment sells at about 2 euro and even that is over paying for it. Absolutely diabolical game

SimpleSlave1044d ago

Ups and Down? More like Up, UP, Pot Hole, Free Fall into the Abyss...

Rutaprkl1043d ago

Thief Deadly Shadows remaster would be awesome.
