DC Universe Online beta meets a shadowy end

XMNR: Sony Online Entertainment celebrated the end of the DC Universe Online beta and the impending launch of the game for the PC and Playstation 3 next week with a penultimate "Battle of the Legends" event staring Lex Luthor vs Superman and Batman vs The Joker. Unfortunately, things didn't turn out very well on the PS3 due to the hundreds of people flooding into the zones for the event - at least for the PS3.

ouch. I really think they need to iron out those crashes before releasing the game.

I worry about the PS3 with release so close. UI loading was tragically slow and bugged to high heaven on some parts when I played last week.

it works a lot better now but still has a couple seconds delay when accessing the menu, I really hope the final build or at least the first patch clears that up, at least they fixed the crashing problem, played 3 hours without a single crash on the PS3.

the last few days of the beta i didnt crash on ps3 once, compared to the multiple crashes per hour i was getting 2 weeks ago im real confident the game will be in good working condition. Actually ive played a few MMOs at launch and i think this will be one of the better launches.

I have high hopes with the release. The PC version is pretty stable and they got rid of some bad (and some very fun) bugs pretty fast with their weekly release schedules.

I think for the PS3 it won't be as smooth, but it will be a great start for MMOs on this gen of consoles.

I'm going the route of playing on the PS3 and not PC mainly because I feel most of the action controls with the game just work better. Also, time trials with super speed and acrobatics are just so much easier with a controller rather than the mouse (IMHO, of course). Especially acrobatics. Wall clinging can get really annoying on some time trials.

the event last night was huge imagine an auction house times 20 any MMo player would see the situation and understand why the game was under preforming. any way if you went to the outskirts of the zones where the fights were you could find alot of PvP and it ran smooth with like 50 people on screen, so the event was what you made of it. I got to throw down a 100 hit combo on Future Joker before getting pummeled by waves of aoe, then i shared a quick fight with Future Batman before i lost sight of him then i spent my last 10 min. PvP till the world ended, goodtimes.

Can't wait for the final release

look, they found a problem on the last minute ^^

despair5622d ago

I gave up trying to get thru after a while, doesn't bother me much but I was getting that same shadow character problem for the stress test when quite a few heroes/villains were in the same area fighting as me.

MMOs In 2021 Retrospective: Console Edition

WTMG's Thomas Medina: "As far as I’m concerned, console MMOs have always been in a weird place. PC is where the main game is most popular. MMOs were born there, work best there, and have the vast majority of titles. Mobile is then next in line, with touchscreens and portability that adds something new while functioning well. Console gaming, on the other hand, is not portable (for the most part). Plus, it uses a controller, which is not the best instrument when your control scheme requires a thousand buttons and a cursor. That being said, there is an audience, and where there’s money to be made, publishers find a way. So here we are with some of the biggest console MMO games and how I feel they handled 2021. "

Best Superhero Video Games Available Right Now

From Xfire: "A lot of video games are designed to make players feel like a superhero. However, very few actually feature superheroes or have players take on the role of a superhero. What makes this even worse is that there are even fewer superhero video games that can be considered good."
