can nvidia last in the cpu market?

yatesybum5612d ago

Personally, I havent a clue
But those over at Gaf are saying this would be perfect for netbooks, tablets and maybe even the nextbox considering MS are supporting it with their next iteration of windows

...ARM... CORE...

I wonder if From Software will come out with a lawsuit about how much it sounds like Armored Core? LOL... my poor attempt at humor!

On topic... I wonder how this will turn out and where it will end up!

AAACE55611d ago

Yeah King you got me there, I am more of an intellectual type! For instance... Why is an Ace more powerful than a King in a deck of cards?

I can't help it... everything I say and do has more than one meaning! Even my screen name has multiple meanings. The typical person will just look and bypass it, while the really clever ones might pick up on it!

BTW... You only have 2 bubbles, so I think you might suck a bit more...

I guess we find out when the reviews start to come out

Can somebody explain what's ARM, and what benefits does it bring?

NRG5612d ago

http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

"A characteristic feature of ARM processors is their low electric power consumption, which makes them particularly suitable for use in portable devices.[21] In fact, almost all modern mobile phones and personal digital assistants contain ARM CPUs, making them the most widely-used 32-bit microprocessor family in the world. Today ARMs account for over 75% of all 32-bit embedded CPUs.[22]"

Nvidia and ARM want to dominate the mobile market basically.

DeadlyFire5611d ago

They are going to be 64-bit very soon. If NVIDIA is going to compete in the CPU market. 64-bit will be a necessary leap for the ARM CPUs to go head to head with Intel and AMD CPUs.

hoops5612d ago

This is HUGE. And Windows/MS finally is supporting Arm within Windows. Intel and AMD just got some stiff competition! Awesome.
And Tegra 2 looks kick ass

Sarcasm5612d ago

Don't go jumping the gun saying AMD and Intel has stiff competition. Yet.

We have to see how it actually performs on an actual platform. Not til we see benchmarks and things like that.

If it succeeds in the performance past AMD or even past Intel, there's still pricing to be concerned as well as platform support. What motherboards is going to support it, and if it's only going to work with Windows 8, who's going to upgrade their computer just for Windows 8 and ARM. And not to mention the performance of AMD and Intel CPUs are already at a high level.

There's a lot of factors involved.

The only thing that they will probably come out with is perhaps for pre-built netbooks first, which is still dominated by Intel especially now after they released the Sandy Bridge integrated chips.

However, I wish all the luck to Nvidia and ARM because I love their products and I hope they do give Intel a run for their money. Intel products are great, but are just too damn expensive.

Not sure if Windows will be so important in the future. Android can be the next general purpose OS. Nobody really needs Windows - unless you write SW. Other OSs are quite capable to run most tasks of todays SW. See how much development goes into mobile applications these days, those ground work can be used to extend those application into the desktop domain sooner than later. Before those apps would have to be ported from scratch, but now, because a lot already exists in the mobile market, it just needs to expand on that. ARM could be the biggest beneficiary of that move. And with it Google (Android).

Awsome!! who knew Nvidia could create human arm's??

iamgoatman5612d ago

Nah, It's just Nvidia GPU's already cost you an arm and a leg, so they're just reselling those. Expect to see the legs to be on sale later this year.

Very intresting things are comming in the future with this and windows 8. Truely portable computing here we come.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio18d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing18d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9218d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit18d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing18d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9218d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
