Microsoft preparing 'Avatar Kinect' game for CES Announcement?

While this probably won't do much to satisfy those worrying about Microsoft's shortage of core games for the coming year, it appears that this years CES keynote from the company won't be without gaming announcements. Specifically, it seems Microsoft is preparing for an announcement of 'Avatar Kinect' if screenshots taken backstage in Vegas are anything to go by. Nothing else is known regarding the project apart from these two shots we managed to snag from a video walk through from CES.

Not a game just part of the announced upcoming XBL update that's going to add Kinect features to the Dash and the new Hulu app and more.

ActionBastard5615d ago

You're wrong, but you already know that.

captain-obvious5615d ago

it looks like MS is going to do just like what they did in the last E3

MariaHelFutura5615d ago

MS needs to buy some more studios.

blumatt5615d ago (Edited 5615d ago )

Why would they do that when they can buy timed-exclusives? Oh...wait. lol Of course, they won't be able to buy timed-exclusives much longer anyway since PS3 is gaining serious ground and studios won't sell timed exclusives once the two consoles are on an equal playing field, market share-wise.

IRetrouk5615d ago

they already are on equal ground, come on we all know micro bloats there numbers, im on my 5th white one, now my sons, i had a resident evil one that stoped playing disks, traded it in sharpish and bought an elite, so if i have had 7 how many other peps have been in the same boat, if anything ps3 probs second place already, not that it actually matters though. on topic micro has gone down the casual route, no harm in that i suppose but my xbox needs more than gears forza and kinect.

Bigpappy5615d ago

Tinasumsum is correct. This avatar Kinect will be a dash board update. The dash is about to become much more Kinect friendly. I have no doubt that there will also be Kinect game announcements, but expect HUlu and Netflex to have full support very soon.
We can also expect Kinect and 360 sales gloating with "actual units sold". I am hoping for some core games and hybrids would be great. But I am well aware that M$ loves to leave big game announcements for E3. I will try not to set expectations too high for game announcements.

Tinasumsum5615d ago (Edited 5615d ago )

Translation: F%$# Microsoft WHY!!!!!!!!!!

ActionBastard5615d ago (Edited 5615d ago )

It is sad. Just makes you happy there are other options available to get your video game fix.

EDIT: You know CES isn't about games, right? And everything you said was said verbatim last year. And they year before. I also find it funny you seem to think Sony won't be at CES, E3, Gamescon, PAX and TGS.

EDIT: I love my PS3. LOVE IT. My 360 is in a Kroger bag, my Wii in the den for the kids. Kinect is a joke and your are a dipshit for buying one. Wait, you just defend it. You don't own it.

Tinasumsum5615d ago (Edited 5615d ago )

Can't wait until CES, E3, Gamescon, pax, TGS. It will be funny watching you running around spread thin in a panic trolling Kinect articles. The way you guys react to Microsoft is half the fun.

EDIT

PS3 fanboy opinion goes along way in the real world :)

EDIT

"Kinect is a joke and your are a dipshit for buying one."

So it's your duty to troll Kinect article to save us ignorants yokels from making the mistake of being suckered into enjoying Kinect? Good luck with that. If your 360 sucks and if Kinect is such garbage why are you so obsessed with these devices, 5 minutes away from trolling 360 and Kinect articles all day and night? Calling bad names just shows how angry and frustrated you are over the 360 success. Grow up

MariaHelFutura5615d ago (Edited 5615d ago )

I love how 360 only owners are the ones saying "just wait". It`s priceless.

Tip...own multiple systems to get you thru hard times.

MariaHelFutura5615d ago

"My 360 is in a Kroger bag"

LOL.

candystop5615d ago (Edited 5615d ago )

Maria,Action Bastard,Juuken-please quit trying so hard! I love my 360 as well as many people i know who could careless about anything PS3. Kinect alone slaughters that hype machine. Right now 360 is the console with not only the most momentum but also the one set to deliver some pretty hefty surprises for you fan girls. The tone of you boggle minded Sony fanboys is beyond me. Calling Kinect a joke makes you look desperate and yes I'm glad there are other options then PS3 for crying out loud. You definitely have some games coming but no point in acting like everybody got to be creaming over them.

IRetrouk5615d ago (Edited 5615d ago )

your complaning about something that you yourself have just done, kinect kills the ps3, that statment is laughable, a camera kills a console lmao.

candystop5615d ago

iretrouk,

That comment I made goes for you as well and yes Kinect kills the PS3. Deal with it, move on and quit trying pretend the current trend isn't going on of kinect madness. ;P

ActionBastard5615d ago (Edited 5615d ago )

candystop: Kinect and every title available doesn't even kill the VirtuaBoy. Everytime I want a laugh, I watch Kinect videos. Enjoy your exercise or dance games.

EDIT: Oh, I've tried it. Multiple times. It's a joke and the games play themselves. Kinectimals is the only game I would get and that's b/c I have kids. But they actually prefer the Wii and PS3. Hence, the 360 in a Kroger bag.

candystop5615d ago (Edited 5615d ago )

LOL...Yeah I was once too one of those idiots that laughed at it until I actually tried it. This device is seriously the biggest thing in gaming I've ever witnessed(33 years of gaming)or experienced. Don't worry Sony will copy soon and then you will pretend you never thought that way. If only people like you new anything I and others would probably take you serious. Moves a gimmick by the way!

IRetrouk5614d ago

Wow i cant believe you 33, it shocks me that you act like a teenager on crack, i dont have the words to describe how sorry i feel for you, its a camera, you must have played the eyetoy games as well seeing as your that old, tell me in what way do they differ when playing the games?

Nice, looks awesome! I've been wanting to hear news about more Kinect integration with the dashboard. Can't wait to see what's in store!

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio20d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing20d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9220d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit20d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing20d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9220d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

Xbox boss: Memory crisis could impact next-gen hardware pricing

Xbox boss Asha Sharma has discussed how component shortages will impact the company's plans for Project Helix.

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn222d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Lexreborn221d ago

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

Sitdown22d ago

You don't really know how this works huh?

Profchaos22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay22d ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay22d ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac21d ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

blacktiger22d ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster300022d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde22d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde21d ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".

A good start would be to release games to go with the console. My Xbox Series X has gathered dust virtually from launch. My advice would be to ditch a next console and release games on PC, PlayStation and Switch. Another idea would be a hybrid console based on Xbox Series X tech and go the same route as Nintendo. Another idea would be to pull out of gaming altogether. Plenty of options there.

Reaper22_21d ago

Why would they pull out? They have the momentum. Sony has been getting nothing but bad news lately.
