Those wow junkies are gonna love this. Portable wow on the go.

If Microsoft really does announce this...

...then you can bet the 360 is on its last legs. Sorry, but with all the costs of the 360 and the fact that 90% of the Xbox Game Division's money comes from XBL, licencing, and software, I don't see them supporting the 360 much longer if this W7 phone/gaming handheld becomes a success. They'd be smart to port XBL to the phone and make it a phone/handheld hybrid like the iPhone.

Edit @ below
Maybe you misunderstood the part where I mentioned 90% of Microsoft's revenue in the Xbox division comes from software, Xbox Live, and licensing. In other words, 90% of the Xbox division's revenue comes from things that could easily be ported to a W7 handheld.

Arent you getting a little carried away here?

This isnt even a "MS device", just a device running some MS software, how would this impact or have any knock on effect towards the 360?

TheLeprachaun5609d ago

Why would Microsoft announce it? It's nothing to do with them except the OS it runs, which is you know, the most used OS in the world.

The only portable gaming 'console' Microsoft has at the moment it the Windows Phone 7 platform.

Baka-akaB5609d ago

well some have argued before than the xbox hardware was just a vehicule for its software and services .

Now that it's established and going viral on mobiles devices and even tv , MS could very well drop it and concentrate on pc and those services .

But will they actually do it ? that's debatable

Pedantic915609d ago

But what kind of games would be playable on it ?

joeorc5609d ago (Edited 5609d ago )

that's what me an a few people have been telling people on N4G the dedicated handheld game system, is pretty much over as being the dominate Handheld. Gaming based Smartphone's are going to be released by the million's soon.

Pretty much any game that can b made on the PSP platform or the DS platform will be able to be made on newer more robust Smartphones..the Smartphone replaced the PDA it already has it's Absorption it's market and the Smartphone is heading to do the same to Dedicated Handhelds to be the largest market share in Mobile gaming.

Soon the PSP platform and the DS platform will join the ranks of Smartphone devices by getting 3G or 4G connectivity also.

the Absorption will be complete...lol

One universal pda/ PC/ phone/ video-game machine that has a sweet resolution, all the bells and whistles (keypad, joypad, blu-tooth, decent flash storage), that I carry with me, then take home, plug - via HDMI - into the t.v., pick up a controller and game with.

That's pretty much where the future is headed. Whoever does this first will make a KILLING off the brand.

silvacrest5609d ago

if thats the case then sony ericcson looks like the first manufacturer to do this

"Smartphone is heading to do the same to Dedicated Handhelds to be the largest market share in Mobile gaming."

Couldn't disagree more.

Smartphone vs Portable gaming console = PC vs Gaming Console. Tell me which is winning in the video games market right now.

The smartphones may/ will/ are winning the casual market (and I mean ULTRA casual--bejeweled and Plants vs Zombies crowd), but the day they'll take over portable gaming (core) isn't near.

the windows phone was a flop

Spinal5609d ago

Statements like that is why you have one bubble. I use an iPhone 4 but I wouldn't call a device thats just arrived a 'flop' Android didnt explode when it first arrived. Smartphones take time to build up their momentum. Windows phone 7 is just an OS like Android its not actually A Specific phone. And will have future iterations faster an better. Again like android phones did.

Baka-akaB5608d ago

android had one device and few countries when it arrived .

Win7 phone were launched on 10 devices on multiple carriers in at least 30 countries .

It isnt a success so far given the investment and fanfare surrounding it .

Something that even execs of MS themselves acknowledge . Like i've said before in another thread , even the phone section boss of MS admit that it wont catch up to ios and android phone ... at least not for years

Oh yeah! I'm so going to get that!
Said nobody ever.

"Oh yeah! I'm so going to get that!
Said nobody ever."

I don't know if the blind hate is directed towards Microsoft or Angry Birds, but you DO realize that it's going to get millions of downloads, right?

Not saying I'm a fan, just saying that because we don't like something doesn't mean it's going to fail.

a_bro4756d ago

i think he's directing that hate towards the game itself, not microsoft.

it has to do with the game's casual focus, and how investors are stating that games like these are the future, even though they suck.
