CFD!’s 2010 GOTY Nominee #3 – Mass Effect 2

CFD!'s Twelve Days of 2010 content block continues with their next nominee for 2010's Game of the Year:

"A galaxy in secret peril from a hidden foe that defies mortal comprehension. A powerful organization claiming altruistic ends while working to advance a shadowy agenda. A team of comprised of assassins, mercenaries, borderline sociopaths and former foes. A Commander returned from beyond the veil of death.

"Mass Effect 2 looks, on paper at least, like typical enough sci-fi fare. But ask anyone who has actually spent the hours to navigate its tension-filled storyline, streamlined gameplay mechanics and web of complex characters and I would be willing to bet you that “typical” is not a word you would ever see used to describe it."

I still have to finish my playthrough on Insanity. Lousy 24-hour days.

ShadowPraxis5618d ago

Which would make HOW many times you've played through it now? Are we at a baker's dozen yet?

RobsteinOne5618d ago

I think it would mark full playthrough number four. I think.

Giantsquirrel5619d ago

Needed more moidah. KANE AND LYNCH 2 FOR GOTY

ShadowPraxis5619d ago

Your review said otherwise ;P

This is one damn good game.

tigresa5619d ago

It's good, but not GOTY. This game is so spoiled! I liked the plot reveal ending of ME1 better than ME2!

Vaud-Villian5618d ago

Better than the wonky controlled and pretty disappointingly ended RDR and the broken narrative of Heavy Rain. What was better?

Bro missing companions: Legion, Grunt, Samara/Morinth, Javik, EDI

anast525d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine525d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast525d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman525d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast524d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave773d ago (Edited 773d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
