Joystiq: Uncharted 3 interview: The difference with Drake

Joystiq: Just what was that puzzling David O'Russell quote, referencing a "family dynamic" in the Uncharted movie, all about, I asked Uncharted 3 game director Justin Richmond at a recent press event. He laughed. "First of all, all that stuff was denied by David O. Russell," Richmond said. "He actually called us up and was like, 'I don't know what these guys are talking about.'" And Mark Wahlberg isn't anywhere near to being confirmed to play Nathan Drake either -- it's just Hollywood scuttlebutt, apparently. Still, I dutifully told Richmond that the Joystiq Biomass had chosen, and Nathan Fillion has our vote. Message received, Richmond responded.

Great to hear they're leaving the single-player alone. Curious to see what they've done with the multi. Either way, this will be purchased at a midnight launch.

It's freaking great IMO that The Uncharted series has made it this far !!! I mean its an establish franchise that can with stand the likes of COD and assassins creed; Being released in the similar time frame as those games shows how naughty dog are confident of there fanbase and know that will support them all the way !! THIS WILL BE DAY 1 for me BABY !!! Can't wait to see how much they've implemented into the new multiplayer because they have been teasing it on being the next big thing lately; ohh and im wondering on what other characters will return too^_^

"We feel like if you're going to build a Move game, you should build a Move game. You shouldn't take a game that already exists with all of these control mechanics, and then build over the top of it."

makes sense when you continue reading

"the technology eats up a significant chunk of memory in calculating player movements (and Uncharted 3 won't have much to spare), so Naughty Dog decided against making any sacrifices"

I'm glad they didn't make sacrifices, if they find that they can add it in after its complete then good for people with move but finish the game first.

I think Naughty Dog is so amazing because they develop their games with integrity. If you read the interview you'll notice at several points Justin Richmond mentions they won't make changes or sacrifices that they feel won't benefit Uncharted specifically. Most notably when asked about co-op in the story Mr. Richmond replied by saying it would not be added because it would ruin the "feel" of the experience. Similarly when asked about move support Richmond replies that they don't want to implement it on top of a game, that they would prefer to build a game for the move from the ground up. This attitude of integrity and notion of self confidence is perfectly summed up in the last two paragraphs.

Cheers, Naughty Dog

Well said, you can see that every game they make is a labor of love. It's also clear that Sony let's their devs do what they want without interference because it gets in the way of creativity. I can't wait to see the improvements they make after a year of development with Uncharted 3.

Can't wati for this game, day one for me!

Just finished UC2 on crushing. It was so fun. But Lazarevic is bada$$ on crushing. Can't wait for their next game.

Nicaragua5630d ago

he's no different on crushing than he is on any other difficulty. You just do laps of the room, shoot blue sap behind you, and not get shot. I did it on my second go on crushing.

MarcusFenixITA5630d ago

I found it much harder on crushing than on the other difficulties.

The comma is giving me a nervous twitch. Decimal point. Decimal point. Decimal point.

I feel like 9.5 is the lowest score Uncharted 3 should recieve from any critic

ABizzel15331d ago

Unfortunately there are a couple of 8's out there, that based off every review I've read so far seems out of place, but whatever. It's generally accepted that Uncharted 3 is a 9.5 - 10 game.

[Complex Magazine] Review: There’s Nothing Deceptive About “Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception”

While this sequel has many of the same minor issues as its predecessor, as well as one rather unique one, it's also just as big of a thrill ride.
