Discover 3D on PS3

UK PlayStation website: Stereoscopic 3D exploded into living rooms and the world over in 2010, and is set to go from strength to strength in 2011 with a massive line up of PlayStation 3 blockbuster games including Killzone 3 and Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception.

Wish I could get a 3dtv but I'll wait for the prices to go down. Tried out the stand they had at my local BestBuy and it was showing the the opening ceremony from the past Olympics in China. Wow. Didn't really think it was a big deal but it really does immerse you. Can't imagine what it would do for upcoming games like KZ3 and such.

A lot of people also get put off by 3D when they go look at a 3DTV and see content on it that was filmed in 2D then converted to 3D in post production (like alice in wonderland). That produces a layered effect that is nowhere near what native 3D content looks like.

And when you use it with gaming, which isn't a linear film/video but is totally interactive, it's that much better. The ability to explore the 3D image in front of you really does take away from the "I'm watching something" feeling and turns it into a "I'm in something" feeling. Like looking through a window into another world.

Honestly prices aren't that high depending on how large you want to go. I live in a studio so it's not that large so I got a 40" recently and it works fine. I got it, 5 year warranty, the stand, 3D transmitter, and 2 pairs of glasses for around $1800. Check out the picture below to see it. I love it :)

Edit: @fr0sty You are right because I played GT5 with the TV 3D setting and it was not a big difference. After I setup my PS3 to tell it I have 3D tv now and then was able to turn on the GT5 3D setting in-game it was a huge difference and really added to the overall experience.

Looks sweet Gamersciz.

My wife got me the Panasonic 42", Panasonic 3D Blu-ray player, 2 pairs of glasses and a top of the line HDMI/ETHERNET 1.4a cable for £1079

What model 3D display did you get?

I am stuck. I cant decide bewteen a Panasonic VT25, Samsung UNC9000 or a Sony LX900.

GamerSciz5638d ago

@Brutallyhonest

I decided on the Sony HX800 40". For me it was price point, features, and price payment options. SonyStyle has the glasses Buy one get one free which was saving $150 right there. They offered me a 5 year warranty parts and protection plan and 36mo no interest to pay. Now truth be told Panasonic 50" I believe is the highest rated 3D tv but that thing isn't cheap. My TV without all the accessories and what not was only $1069 retail.

In short, my suggestion is look at reviews, lots of them, and look at features and things you would use. I am sure there is a 3D tv out there within your price range.

My wife got me a 42" Panasonic VIERA TX-P42GT20B for Christmas.
This TV is awesome, one of the best around at the minute. Played Black ops in 3D last night, wasn't too bad

Edit: Yeah frosty, I'm picking up GT5 early next week. Can't wait now

fr0sty5638d ago

give GT5 a shot in 3D, they say it's one of the best showcases of it so far.

gaden_malak5638d ago

How do you play Black Ops in 3D?

I have a Samsung 3D TV (though PS3 is not hooked up to it) and I have a few games that are 3D enabled (Sly Trilogy, PoP, Wipeout, SSHD) but I haven't tried Sly or PoP yet.

rockleex5637d ago

I think the more important question is:

Why would you NOT hook up your PS3 to it?

gaden_malak5635d ago

Because it's used so often by others I'd never play it.

Theyellowflash305638d ago

I'll discover 3D when I buy my Nintendo 3DS in March.
- Without Glasses
- Far Cheaper than buying a big TV

GamerSciz5638d ago

What's ironic about the 3DS is the concept is the same as stereoscopic 3D. The large difference is instead of taking two frames and offsetting them the 3DS has two different screens offset. Now this would work on a 40" plus tv but you would have to be at the correct angle to experience the 3D effect. That is the reason why glassesless 3D hasn't come out on the big screens yet. They are looking for a cheaper solution then adding a webcam that can track faces and move the screens accordingly.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle36d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde43d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

And then MK1 killed it again.
