Hell Descent: Dead Space 2 Demo Impressions

Hell Descent: The Dead Space 2 demo was first teased by executive producer Steve Papoutsis in the second installment of ‘Ask Steve’ on Facebook. Having met Steve before, we knew his coy face; he was hiding something. When he answered the user question about a Dead Space 2 demo, that familiar smile flashed, and we knew it was coming. Now that the demo is officially out, we have played the hell out of it and we like to share our experience. Hit the jump for our full impressions.

I got stuck in that part where their is lots of flashing coming out of a sphere, I turned it off after that.

RadicalDreamer5632d ago

I made it past that part, but it was pretty confusing. I had to do lots of trial and error by just spamming stasis and kinesis all over the place. The game doesn't give you much guidance for what to do there.

SnakeMustDie5632d ago

I think it was not that complicated compared to the asteroid part of DS1. You just need to bring down the two arms every layer. Also you should use statis for the other last layers.

Eiffel5632d ago

I hated that asteroid part of DS1, was so not even necessary. I'd get through the game on hard difficulty at a good pace, then once I got to that damn asteroid part, screwed over each time.

TroyAndAbed5632d ago

The sphere took me a few minutes, but I figured it out. I'm still not entirely sure how I fixed it. Haha. They REALLY need to make things like that more clear. My friend had NO idea what to do, so he got frustrated and quit...and he's Asian!

AK465632d ago

And here I thought Asians were suppose to be smarter and a better gamer. Verdict: Myth

Don't judge an entire race by a single person...

DARK WITNESS5631d ago (Edited 5631d ago )

I don't know... I must be the only person who thinks it was just fine the way it was.

if there is one thing i have started to really dislike it's dev's making everything too easy.

I think for someone who has not played the first game, ok ya, maybe it does leave you a little clueless..

but if you played the first then you should know what the symples are indicating that you need to use your staysis. any puzzle or object that is moved with it has the blue panel with the symble on it.

I am tired of big bright flashing arrows with big letters spelling out for me what i need to do all the time. it takes the puzzle out of the puzzle. they may as well remove everything like that in the game.

TroyAndAbed5631d ago

Stasis wasn't my problem. I knew to do that. I just couldn't figure out how to get the panels to stay in place after they were holding a ring.

blodulv5632d ago

Deleted it.

DS1 Rocked. DS1.5 looks to be more of the same.

jag_stilvecchio5631d ago

So more of the same game that "rocked" is a bad thing then?

blodulv5630d ago (Edited 5630d ago )

Yes. Copy and paste sequels are lazy. It's been a problem this entire generation.

Devs are too quick to cash in on a name rather than actually trying to dethrone the original IP.

DARK WITNESS5631d ago

and Uncharted 3 or killzone 3 are not more of the same ?

considering it's set in the same universe with the same character what were you expecting ? Issic jumping up and down on powerup mushrooms ?

blodulv5630d ago (Edited 5630d ago )

We shall see about KZ3... supposedly they've added new environments and a better color palette.

Uncharted is a perfect example of what I am talking about. Yes it's the same characters, universe etc... but they completely change up the environments and situations so that each game has it's own unique look and feel.

Dead Space 1 & 2 appears to be the same as Bioshock 1 & 2. Look at what the original Bioshock devs are doing now with "Infinite"... that's what a sequel should be.

violent80sarcade825630d ago

yea i was going crazy on that spinning giant asteriod part in ds1 i finally ran out there and saw the things u had to destroy so u could plant the beacon...this game was crazy 10/10

EA Shoots Down Dead Space 2 Remake Rumors: 'No Validity to This Story'

EA has shut down rumors that EA Motive considered a Dead Space 2 remake before shelving it due to low sales of the previous game, saying there's "no validity" to the reports.

XiNatsuDragnel776d ago

Sure.... right.... at least remake dead space 3 w/o microtransactions bs.

XiNatsuDragnel775d ago

I sometimes I wished I didn't Ngl lol

Knightofelemia776d ago

Why not remake DS2 whether shot down or not it's still my favorite game next to DS1. As much as I hate EA I would buy or would have bought DS2 day one.

MeteorPanda775d ago

No validity XD "Guys guys, we cant possible make a good game or cater to the gamers wants, stop"

Yi-Long775d ago

I don't know if sales met their expectations or not. I just know that the high review scores received my attention so I was interested in buying it, but its price stayed high (50+ bucks) for so long that I simply never bothered picking it up.

Tacoboto775d ago

Doesn't pay full price
Doesn't pay *any* price
Ponders if sales met expectations regarding an allegedly canceled sequel.

Gee...

Yi-Long775d ago

Well, for starters, I'm sure there are plenty of games I never bought which did, somehow, still, meet their sales-expectations.

Concerning Dead Space; I never played and thus cared for the original. It's in multiple genres (shooter, sci-fi, horror) I don't particularly care about so it was barely on my radar pre-launch. I was never its target-audience.

When reviews hit, and it was scoring big, it gathered my interest, so while it wasn't in my field of interest, it mrans that I wanted to give it a fair shot and at least give it a try, as I do with many games across different genres; I tend to just cherry-pick the good stuff and see if it's for me or not.

But, I do wait for sales on those games I take a risk on.

Kornholic775d ago (Edited 775d ago )

Lol, you are a huge part of the problem. If a very high-quality game is not even worth 50 bucks to you, then what is?

13 Years Later, Dead Space 2 Is Still A Perfect Video Game

Nameer from eXputer: "Dead Space 2 is a sequel that delivers such a feast that by the time you're done, you're not only full but also satisfied."

Aaroncls7795d ago

It was amazing. All 3 DS games game solid for me, but 2 was special.

hombreacabado795d ago

i can do without ds3 but the first two are solid.

mariopasta795d ago

Hope they remake this one too. Just like they did with number 1. The remake of Dead Space 1 was perfection

Terry_B795d ago

I had no idea that Bad Company 2 was still running, and only now that I know, I want to jump on! 😥

SonyStyled898d ago

I was able to find games in the Vietnam dlc on ps3 the last week. There were articles on here about the server closure when it was announced in April

DaReapa898d ago

BF1943 is the only online MP game that I was genuinely interested in. Been playing since launch 14 years ago. Hate that I couldn't put in as much time to play as I'd hoped for during the final week.

Inverno898d ago

I got really into 43 when I bought Bf3, and preferred it. Everything that I disliked or found annoying about Bf3, wasn't an issue in 43. Too bad they never bothered releasing it on PS4 or PC.

1nsomniac897d ago (Edited 897d ago )

Dead Space 2...... I wasn't even aware that had multiplayer. Nevermind that it was apparently one of their best multiplayers!

anast897d ago

Once people stop buying micros, these companies close the doors.

Xenial897d ago

Dead Space 2 multiplayer had been hanging on for years - I'd boot my PS3 up to see some familiar names in lobbies. This will definitely be missed!
