My First Month With Kinect

Christmas will soon be gone and you may be asking yourself if getting a Kinect was a good thing or the video game equivalent of a fruit cake. Well I’m here to tell you all about my experience and why Kinect is good for you, your friends and your family.I've had a solid month with the Kinect (waited in line at launch). Now its time I share my findings.

I don't understand why everybody is amazed by its potential, but not what it has delivered. I don't know if it's just me, but I don't like to buy something from the promises of it, since they may never come.

Yet, when they review the Move, they slam it for the games it currently have, even though it does have a lot of potential too, for future games

My guess is that causal gamers are taking over the world ... :S

Nah. The way kinect works. You can not have the same experience with a controller. Kinect is not use instead of a contoller. It is used for completely different game experiences.

Yes my friends enjoy gaming generally, whether RPGs, shooters, sports, hack and slash, arcadey stuff, whatever, and they're telling me that Kinect is a whole new gaming experience in a positive way. I enjoy a good session of Mass Effect as much as I enjoy Wii Sports, so I think Kinect should work for me.

well that's good they like all those genre, but saying kinect is a whole new gaming experience seems a lil bit over exaggerated.

One more thing, if you a gamer who have multi consoles, and you're a "true gamer"-(that like saying your Jesus Christ)- why are you taking other peoples word when you have the ability to observed and analyze and guess the review score before the reviewers.

it seems like "true gamers" are gluttons, and too afraid to have a "preferences."

Did I miss something? HE SAID THE HE IS BEING TOLD THIS BY HIS FRIENDS. Do you not have friends, do you NOT trust your friends at least a little bit?

We're talking about friends and gaming here. In gaming your friends are your worst enemy, and a great ally. Not all the time you're going to agree with your friends. If my friends said, "hey immortal you should get the kinect, it's a whole new experience." I would respond with, "Bro, I don't want to play games with no controller. And besides the games that I like would be tiresome playing with no controller."

All I'm saying is check his history, objective seems to like gaming as long as there's a controller. And it seems you want him to buy some crappy hardware to boost its numbers. uxo22 you are the disease that plague n4g. look at your history, you get more disagree than agrees.

When did it become a bad thing to be a casual gamer? The "hardcore" were always the early adopters that paid more to play first. Hardcore and casual gamers play many of the same games. The biggest difference is the hardcore are more likely finish them and buy closer to launch.

It's funny because hardcore gamers look down on casual gamers while most casual gamers think hardcore gamers are nerds that need to get a life. I'm not really sure which boat I would rather be on. I'd like to think all gamers are simply gamers with different priorites in life. I would like to be more "hardcore" sometime, but not at the expense of actually living my life,

First of all, Kinect is NOT made for Hardcore Gamers....Microsoft is making a lot of money with it because it appeals to kids and parents with young kids, most parents don't want their kids playing God of War or Call of Duty. It's like the Nitendo Wii a lot of sales because a lot of kiddie games and stuff most parents prefer their kids to play.

Playstation is the only true Hardcore console out there. Period. (I said console no machine) and I'll stick with that until I have little game crazy kids of my own.

Its a mistake to claim that casual and hardcore gamers are mutually exclusive. Its also a mistake to claim a device itself for casuals, and not the specific game(s). Let the games that come out over the next year or two dictate what games are for what audience, not the device.

While I aggree with you that the games should decide if it's casual or core gamers...Kinect will never have Hardcore games...it may get better in terms of what the games will look like but the design it has limits it's ability to support hardcore games, unless of course the average core gamer wants his character to autorun and the level design can't be anything but linear.

call me ignorant, but I'd call it reality.

@Hozi89 - Can you run with Move? Or do you need a controller or subcontroller to run.

Then that means that you can't have a hardcore game with move either. Oh, unless having a controller with move is allowed while not allowed with Kinect. In your opinion that is.

So with that being said, why can't there be Hybrid games for Kinect, where you can make hand gestures, voice commands, and stuff like that while also using a controller.

Because if you say using a controller kinect defeats the purpose of it being motion controlled, the using a controller or sub-controller with Move and the Wii does the same thing.

You're ignorant, there you go I did it.

Kinect has potential, I'll give you that but before I fork out $150, I want to see some sort of hardcore game running not trailers of hardcore games. The jury is still out for me.

I would hate to be the GUY who stands in front of Kinect and the Kinect gives him a small little girl icon.That would be funny.

I think most people who want Kinect to fail are either...

A. someone who Hates Microsoft
B. are a Sony Fanboy
C. a 360 Fanboy who feels raped by all the attention Kinect gets while the Core 360 gamer has no Exclusives to play.
D. someone who is just sick of all the hype surrounding this new Eye Toy oops I mean product.

I got kinect on day one and I got 7 games for it. I think kinect works very well some games have a bit of lag but not enough to spoil the fun. The biggest problem I have found with kinect is its no where near as fun when you are playing on your own you need to be playing online or with someone to really enjoy it. I've been very impressed with dance Central kinect sports for what they offer in 2plater mode. The one game I did not think I would enjoy was ea sports active 2 but this game I have started to get onto because it makes you push your body and get fit. We had the 1st one and the other half loved it but it felt wrong holding the Wii controller in your hand but being able to use weights ect ticks the boxes for me. The biggest problem at the mo is kinect not having core games for it because I do think the last thing gamers want to do when they get in from a day at work is stand in front of the tv and move around they just want to veg with a controller on the sofa. But I will have to wait and see what MS give us in 2011 for core kinect games.

What I don't get is that people think everything revolves around hardcore, to be honest KZ3 does not appear to work very well with Move, you know why? because you have a casual device trying to be hardcore, don't get me wrong I think survival horror will work great with Move and Kinect but try and realise that where motion controls are concerned it's the fun factor that counts, is the WII popular because it is a hardcore console? no ofcourse not but then it never tried to be did it, I don't care if Kinect never does a hardcore game so long as it gives me value for money doing what it does, some of you guys juts don't seem to get it.
