Will Final Fantasy Versus XIII ever be released?

With the development of Final Fantasy Versus XIII taking its time, some fans are beginning to question whether Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be released at all on a seventh generation games console (particularly the Sony PlayStation 3).

Hopefully so they could show what FF13 could have been if it didn't go multiplat.

deanobi5642d ago (Edited 5642d ago )

I cant really see Square Enix wanting a FFvXIII exclusive for the PlayStation 3 with the potential added revenue to be gained from Xbox 360 sales.

Blacklash935642d ago (Edited 5642d ago )

Dumbass PS3 fanboys...

Going multiplat doesn't make a bad story, linear design, and a battle system for 5-year-olds happen.

Parapraxis5642d ago

That's true Blacklash93...except for the linear design part.

siliticx5642d ago

"dumbass ps3 fanboys"...
hey xbox, might want to check your facts.

They said, multiple times, that the linear design was because of DVDs. The lack of space made it so they couldnt introduce side quests from the get go.

Sez 5642d ago

That sad thing it was already in production on the ps3 before they even announced or started work on the 360 version. But fanboys want to believe what they want to justify their purchase.

AAACE55642d ago (Edited 5642d ago )

@Saga Kin...

I would believe you about if FFXIII stayed exclusive to Ps3 it would have sold more, but there are a few things you are overlooking.

It's true that Ps3 has some of the best looking games this gen. But that hasn't helped a lot of it's exclusives sell more than games on 360. Uncharted 2 should have had Halo 3 numbers in sales.

People keep saying SE just wanted money which is why they went multiplat with FFXIII. And it's true! All game companies are in it for the money!

Looking at it from a logical and business standpoint. People know the reputation that 360 owners buy a lot of games. At the time, Ps3 numbers were several millions behind 360 sales. With fewer console sales and a reputation of games not selling well on Ps3, it would be crazy to take the risk!

I know longtime Ps3 fans would like to believe that having the game exclusive would have made people buy Ps3's and it would have boosted the sales in all directions for the console, but fact remains that the FF franchise has been selling fewer and fewer units with each new release! Going multiplat was bound to come.

As gamers, we would like to believe that the FF brand is still a big hitter! But it's just not anymore. The best we can hope for is an entertaining game! Come on... Sakaguchi left the company... do you really think the franchise will be the same? Were any Rare products the same after it's key members left? Would MGS games be the same if Kojima left? Would Nintendo games be the same if Miyamoto left?

The best you can do is embrace the new direction they are going in and find something else that fills that void for old style Jrpg's!

Not trying to sound harsh... just thinking realistically!

DaTruth5641d ago (Edited 5641d ago )

And it will disappoint FF fans again and they will rise up and cause so much chaos, world war III will ignite(many world leaders are FF fanboys) and the end of the world prophecy will come true!

Good thing I will have had a few months with Uncharted 3 and can die a happy man!

Coogi5641d ago (Edited 5641d ago )

It's gonna be hilarious if v13 comes out and it sucks...who will the Sony fanboys blame then? I mean you can't blame MS like you do for EVERYTHING...It's Always MS fault and nooo one else...it's hilarious really. I mean 360 fanboys are bad too but they are just pricks, the sony fanboys are just unaware of how much 360 didn't affect XIII at all. I mean look how long they worked on the game for what 5 years? SE obviously had a PLAN...It doesn't matter if it was on ps3 only or not it still would have sucked.

You could add 15 towns to the game and it would still be linear as hell, it's all about the game mechanics they chose this time around...Hell it was actually quite similar to Dirge of Cerberus.

If it comes to 350 and pure amazing there will still be the fanboys that will find soemthing to cry about and guess will take the blame? MS yet again...lol I mean just look at the fact that SE is garbage on 360 and Ps3 this Gen.

They can do story's and characters fine it's just they fail to bring in something good to the game play.

People need to just stop being fanboys and just look at the facts they only requite a bit of common sense...I own both systems myself and I just blame SE...They had 5 years there's no excuse at all for linear Game play.

@Saga King: Lol you're not very bright bro, Sell better if it didn't hit 360? That a very ignorant thing to say it's like saying "hey, lets only sell Pepsi in this store and not the store over on the other side of town, it will sell more sense it's in this one store"!

See? Sounds retarded doesn't it?

@siliticx: How about you post some PROOF of that statement from SE please, I have a hard time believing that buddy. "They" could be ly nut sack that said that so for it to be true it would need to be from SE not raging fanboys.

Darrius Cole5641d ago

@Coogi and AAACE5

FF13 selling more as a PS3 exclusive than it did as a multiplat is not far-fetched at all. FFXIII sold about 4 million on PS3 and sold about 1 and half million on 360. I think it would have sold the same amount at least and most likely more. If it had been PS3 exclusive.

The relevant questions are:

1) Would FF13 have been a better game if it were PS3 exclusive?
2) Would being a better game have led to more sales?
3) Would FF13 have sold more PS3 units if it had gotten more marketing for PS3 in the west?

I think the answer to all 3 questions is "Yes". FF13 could have passed 6.5 million and maybe 7 million.

FarEastOrient5641d ago

Square Enix has gotten so slow in making games these days... What happened?

DigitalAnalog5641d ago (Edited 5641d ago )

"I cant really see Square Enix wanting a FFvXIII exclusive for the PlayStation 3 with the potential added revenue to be gained from Xbox 360 sales."

You DO realize MS had to spend a lot to advertise the game (FFXIII) for it's console, not to mention the tally of 3 DVD's per game. Since the price of the game is the same as 1 DVD, 1.5 million on 3 DVD's isn't a lot especially on advertising. MS may have lifted the royalties for the extra DVD costs for SE but this would mean hurting their profit even further.

In which case, if FFv13 utilizes the full 25GB or yet the entire Dual-Layered 50GB. You can be rest assured the game would NOT be on the 360 due to the amount of disks needed.

Need I say the 2GB security data needed per 360 disc also hurts the amount of necessary space to reduce DVD costs?

-End of Line

Darrius Cole5641d ago

@DigitalAnalog

"In which case, if FFv13 utilizes the full 25GB or yet the entire Dual-Layered 50GB. You can be rest assured the game would NOT be on the 360 due to the amount of disks needed."

Hence the reason we know and believe that FFXIII had reams of content cut from it after it became a multiplat title. It is hard to believe that they their original vision was to make game that was a straight line until it got to the third 360 disc.

ico925641d ago

FF13 was pussified/ noobified to appeal to the dumbass fraghead shooter fanatic, Casual Of Duty whores of the west, or more specifically the United States and seeing as the 360 is the best selling console out of the ps3 in the USA it was noobified to appeal to the simple minded frag head 360 owners.

FamilyGuy5641d ago

I really hope it stays that way but it wouldn't be as huge a deal as FF13 if it were to go multi.

In any case WKCs 2 along with the insane amount of other PS3 exclusives coming out in 2011 should tie me over (oh, you guys too) till this game finally comes out.

I'm really interested in it but there's certainly enough on my gaming plate already, it's like I'm at a buffet. O.O

I dont care anymore. SE has failed me too many times. If they try to appease casual audiences like they did with 13 then they are looking at another failure. By failure I mean loosing core audience trust because I know 13 probably sold a crap load of units dispite how terrible it was.

SnakeMustDie5642d ago

Don't give up hope. Maybe VS will turn into a masterpiece; maybe its crap. Time will tell!!

Nodoze5642d ago

I noted a disagree a I dont think that FF13 sold a crap load of titles. Most places are dumping it for 19 or under. That is not the sign of a solid selling title.

newflesh5641d ago

@Keith I don't think FF XIII was terrible. I thought it was good, but not great.

@Nodoze You're wrong. It actually sold very well. As of May 2010, the game has sold 5.75 million copies worldwide (wikipedia).

lelo2play5642d ago (Edited 5642d ago )

It will be released when the Xbox720/PS4 come out.

thugbob5642d ago

Yeah, versus 13 needs to stay on the PS3. I say this because SE said that the had to cut out so much content from the 360 version. I really don't mind it being on the 360, but if versus being on 360 means that it might limit SE from making the game to it's full potential then they should do it.

deanobi5642d ago

Square Enix just seem to be looking at money more than games at the moment.

tplarkin75641d ago

This is just a guess, but Square Enix is likely porting it to Xbox 360, thus causing this delay.

If you think I'm wrong, Square is desperate right now. This is not a far fetched idea.

Vherostar5641d ago (Edited 5641d ago )

FF13 took over 3 years and they didn't really start on versus until launched. So I expect about 3 years too.

XabiTheHumble5641d ago

@AAACE5 That doesn't mean that the reputation holds any facts though.

lazysey5641d ago

When the new consoles come out, it will most definitely be released. Square-Enix already lost A LOT of money. Sure at the end of the day they make final fantasy and other cool stuff, but they aren't Microsoft and won't recover the next morning after a bad hangover.

Their development structure is coming to an end, and don't be surprised if they merge or possibly in the future, have key people from sony, microsoft, and nintendo keeping in touch to make sure they don't make a final fantasy game with a tony hawk peripheral skateboard.

It's all an elaborate joke, Wada's joke to be exact. The joke that S-E might actually be able to make a good game this gen. Wada is bringing them down. I bet this will be affected by the FFXIV fail aswell. They pushed back Dues Ex to fix FF14 too. I'm sure it will be released at some point. I hope 2011.

Lordme, the prob;em is that it hasn't been rushed, it was announced nearly as long as FFXIII ago, but FFXIII is ou and Versus has some CG trailers and a little tiny tibbet of gameplay that doesn't show us the combat system, that gameplay was to show us Noctis animation when fighting, nothing more. It's even slowed doen a bit so we can see his movements more.

Edit---In a recent interview, the 2nd man of S-e stted that Versus is now the priority so it can't be too long

NovusTerminus5642d ago

God I hope so. And I am sure it is. Nomura is just a very busy man. I would rather wait a while and get a game with good content rather then it be rushed and get a sub par RPG, like FFXIII.

Rashonality5642d ago

you think it was rushed !
it was released 4 YEARS after it was announced at e3 2006.
2 mass effect games and 2 Assassins creed games were released and you think FFxiii was rushed.

NovusTerminus5642d ago (Edited 5642d ago )

Well, the final product did not turn out so well, it was missing a lot of features that fans have come to know and love.

Yes. It was rushed. The dev time was two years, everything else was getting the engine up. So once again, yes. It was rushed.

Rashonality5641d ago

Japanese developers should get over them selves...they're not the best anymore.
western developers made an amazing games in less than half of the time Japanese devs made a mediocre one.
assassins creed has its own engine and alot of great other games do too like GTA and CoD and not to forget the two kings of console graphics Uncharted and killzone yet this game was rushed.
ok i believe you they were busy making the white engine and now they're done...so...why there's no release date for Xiii Versus ?
they released ffxiii a year ago and yet we're not sure when this godly game will be released...all we heard is rumors about this game not coming till 2013.....why in world do they need all that time....the engine and the games concept is finished.....do the work and release this god darn game...
don't get me wrong i love final fantasy and i love Japanese developers but they did nothing but disappoint us in the last 5 years.

deanobi5642d ago

How long does it take to develop a game?! Too much chopping and changing I think...

-MD-5642d ago

It'll be released soon after they finish up on the 360 port xD

Black-Helghast5642d ago

Hahaha that was so funny i didn't even laugh... -.-

silkrevolver5642d ago

Then what was that “Hahaha” business all about? LIES!

Sackbot5642d ago (Edited 5642d ago )

By the then I don't think the 360 will still be around ;P

Six Times When Games Turned Into A Horror Game

Immediately thought of the El Dorado zombie dudes in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.

raWfodog386d ago (Edited 386d ago )

Not necessarily a ‘horror’ moment, but I remember feeling really tense and anxious when the Flood were first introduced in the original Halo. I never felt more on edge or nervous in that whole game as that moment. I think it was the whole buildup that something terrible was coming but you didn’t know exactly what.

Another non-horror game that had me feeling it was Subnautica. The deep dark depths, and knowing that sea monsters were lurking nearby, had me jumping at every sound.

NettosGameRoom386d ago

That scene where you first see them attack is pretty crazy!

always liked 15, but the development was shch a shitshow. it could have been so much more.

but Tabata did a good job with what he had regardless

DivineHand125520d ago

Ff15 was a missed opportunity from square as they transitioned from turn based to real time.

One of the issues is that it was 30 fps. The combat mechanics required precision dodges to activate Noctis teleport ability and it was difficult to do at 30 fps. I am glad they rectified that in FF16. The story and flow also felt like it went through a chopshop similar to how some live service games end up when they are trying to meet a deadline. Those extra episodes they sold as dlc should have been in the maingame.

FF15 is one of the weaker entries in the series.

Z501520d ago

Dodges don't activate the teleport ability. Teleport was R1 + O. Dodge was just the O button. Explain the Black Hood (the item that automatically Dodges for you)

TheNamelessOne520d ago

Ah yes; FF XV.
The beginning of me coming to the realization the series was no longer for me.

Michiel1989520d ago

16 was a lot better, I think 15 was just a big mess with how development went and all. The music though, one of the best in the series, probably the only reason I finished the game.

Cacabunga520d ago

At least FF15 had RPG elements . 16 was just an action game from beginning to end.

Michiel1989520d ago

I rather have a good action game than a bad rpg with 2 button combat

Cacabunga520d ago (Edited 520d ago )

Then call it something else then FF. I got scammed with FF16. Nothing of what i expected it to be.
Even the action is bad in it, especially after the demo section where absolutely nothing happens until the very end.

FF15 isnt a great game but it has some variety at least.

CrimsonWing69520d ago

That initial trailer with the Leviathan fight was the game I wish we got. The actual retail release was watchdogged to all Hell and while there’s enjoyment to be had in the game, it’s such an incomplete product and so many elements feel so slapped together without any cohesion.

Like, don’t get me wrong, I loved fishing, cooking, and the first third of the game, but I much rather they made a story that didn’t feel barely there and the the last third of the game didn’t feel so rushed and unfinished.

Becuzisaid520d ago

Every time a party member left for a period of time screamed future paid dlc. It was horrible.

Imagine Dagger and Steiner making the party go to sleep in Lindblum in FF9 disc 1 and then taking off to Alexandria by foot themselves, but then never playing their side of the adventure in disc 2 when they smuggle her through the South Gate in pickles, take the cable car and fight the Waltz, head to Treno and start the quest to find Supersoft. They just eventually reunite with the main party in the future without explanation of what went on in their adventure.

Or Sephiroth's backstory in the famous Kalm flashback being added as a dlc pack. Same goes for Vincent, Cid, or Yuffie for that matter.

Oh and anything to do with Jenova, the Ancients, Aerith, her mom and Gast, shoved into a 2 hour CG movie or 5 hour anime ministries that's considered required viewing for anything in the main game to make sense or have characters actually be interesting.

I enjoyed FF15 at the time, and finished it, but it's bright spots are marred by a bad development cycle and a worse marketing scheme.

CrimsonWing69520d ago

What’s sad is when I watched a vid on the entire story (that wasn’t properly told in the actual game)!it was really solid and could’ve been one of the most epic stories in any FF. I think a lot of the compilation and cross-media stuff really f*cked it all up.

gurp520d ago

FFXV was underrated in my opinion
I have played all of the final fantasy games, and I loved this game
turn based to me takes too long, I like active battle
the extra dlc and chapters should have been included in the original release, but it is nice that they fixed the game later
