GameSpot: Mass Effect 2 PlayStation 3 Version Hands-On

GameSpot: "Not too long ago, the idea of anything on the PlayStation 3 bearing the Mass Effect name could be aptly described as far-fetched. After all, the series began its life as an Xbox 360 exclusive published by none other than Microsoft. But one major acquisition later, BioWare is now part of the Electronic Arts family--a publisher with no small affinity for multiplatform releases. So while PlayStation 3 owners won't see the original Mass Effect on their system of choice anytime soon, its critically lauded, EA-published sequel will finally arrive on the PS3 this January--almost exactly a year to the date after it first hit the Xbox 360 and PC. This is a great game. I might pick up the ps3 version even though I've already beaten the game. Never did play the DLC.

The Lair of the Shadow Broker is awesome. Sets up some things for ME3 and your get to team up with Liara again.

The Boss fights are pretty fun too

I have the first on 360 and have yet to get part 2. I was told it can be found for $15 on clearance at target and yet the ps3 version will contain all the extra stuff I would have to pay sep for on the 360.

Oh what to do...what to do.

Hmm how about this. Buy the PS3 version then do the comic in the beginning and duplicate your character and his actions.

Or you could buy it used and download all the content separtely

Why are people saying Mass Effect engine in all these articles?

- Ghost of Sparta -5635d ago (Edited 5635d ago )

The main engine for all versions is obviously UE3 but for Mass Effect 3, they've made huge improvements and stretched the engine's capabilities enabling smoother frame rate, less loading, and better physics, all of which is utilized in the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2.

In short, the improvements you should come to expect from Mass Effect 3 are already in the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2.

Bro missing companions: Legion, Grunt, Samara/Morinth, Javik, EDI

anast528d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine528d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast528d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman528d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast528d ago

Liam lol I can't stand that dude.

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave776d ago (Edited 776d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
