IGN:Mass Effect 2 is Looking Good on the PS3

IGN:If you were concerned that PlayStation 3 owners would get the short end of the stick when BioWare decided to port Mass Effect 2 to the console, rest easy. Packaged with all the downloadable content offerings including Lair of the Shadow Broker and Overlord, as well as new characters Zaeed and Kasumi, the PlayStation 3 will offer the most comprehensive version of the game to date.

sinncross5636d ago

This sounds very promising for ps3 users :)

NecrumSlavery5636d ago (Edited 5636d ago )

The visuals are pimped and not gimped = +1
The backstory digi comic done by Dark Horse = +1
All the DLC, updates, and content on one bluray = +1
Using R1/L1 combo(Thank Fuk'n Bioware!!!) = +97

Overall 100/100

My biggest complaint with ports is making the PS3 controls assbackwards. We use R1/L1, not the buttom triggers! ie Bioshock, Almost all Racing games, I am so happy they didn't mess that up. Graphics look better too....However, I better not comment there though...

Iamback5636d ago

yup L1 and R1 4 the win!

Respect for Bioware they really tried, it's not poor port (Like Bayonetta crap)

Def getting this

"if you look closely you might notice the blacker blacks and crisper textures, but you'll probably just think it looks sharp and bright. Placing both versions side by side shows off how much better the PS3 version looks during cutscenes, but during normal gameplay it isn't leaps and bounds better than the Xbox 360."

edit: what's with the disagrees? I was just qouting the article and they're the only ones who seen it running

Vherostar5636d ago

PS3 looks better purely because it wasn't a simple port it was made from the ground up thanks to additions and changes they had to make. This like FFXIII shows what happens when you make 2 multi-platform games separate rather than porting one to the other. Just a shame we don't see this often enough and use the real power of both consoles.

GrandTheftZamboni5636d ago

This and the fact that ME 3 is coming to PS3 too, I'll be definitely getting it. Make it $40, since it's been out on 360 and PC, and it's a Day 1.

ChineseDemocracy5636d ago

Uh. Did anyone notice the huge difference in visuals?

Not sure if it was just the video, but when they showed the comparison, one of the versions looked A LOT more crisp and sharp than the other...

Omega5636d ago

@ Morganfell

Are you serious! I didn't know the raven controller had that feature in where you can switch the L1 R1 to L2 R2 as triggers. thanks man.

SaberEdge5636d ago

I am excited by the prospect of getting to play the game with all the downloadable content on the PS3. I have played the 360 version a lot and in this video it does seem the PS3 versions has crisper visuals in some parts, but at the same time it seemed like the framerate in the gameplay sections they showed was a little more unsteady than in the 360 build and that worries me a bit.

GrandTheftZamboni5636d ago (Edited 5636d ago )

I changed my mind: I'll pay full price. Extra content, extra effort, great graphics, great game according to reviews and fans.

It doesn't look like they are trying to make a quick buck and I can only appreciate that.

Omega5636d ago (Edited 5636d ago )

@ morganfell

Oh I can't believe I almost fell for that. Your a lying douche and there isn't a switch on the buttom of the PS3 raven controller that flips your L1/L2.

Boody-Bandit5636d ago

First day must buy for me. Never got around to getting the 360 version and from the looks of it I did a good thing by being patient. Can't wait to give this game a try.

Don't get at all why morgans post was marked as trolling. His agree to disagree ratio doesn't support it and I don't see anything wrong with his post. Guess someone in charge doesn't dig you morgan.

Boody-Bandit5636d ago (Edited 5636d ago )

The Nyko Raven does have the ability to swap the shoulder buttons just like morgan said.

http://www.nyko.com/news/ne...

Just incase you wont take the time to read this information I will quote it for you.

"New to the design of both controllers is the ability to swap the assignments of the bumper (L1/R1) and trigger (L2/R2) buttons, allowing the user to customize their gameplay experience and take advantage of the Raven’s improved ergonomic triggers."

You were saying?

Omega5636d ago

@brutallyhonest

I understand that and read that a while ago before it came out. So I went over my friends house and saw the controller to see if there was a button on bottom. And there wasn't at all and asked him about the swap buttons and said there isn't anyway. So obivously morganfell was trolling and if you got one, you would see what i'm talking about.

GrandTheftZamboni5636d ago

Busted: all this time Morganfell pretended to be a PS3 fanboy, but he's actually a Nyko fanboy.

Great detective work, Omega!

:)

MeanOldman5636d ago

Omega dude, dont you have no honor jus telling a lie like that? You really should be ashamed but people like you dont have a conscious.

http://i55.tinypic.com/2zgd...

Thas the switch on the bottom that flips the controls.

Boody-Bandit5636d ago (Edited 5636d ago )

Edit: Nevermind.
MeanOldMan beat me to it.

Lawliet5636d ago

Hey morgan I think Omega got you mark tight with his pathetic 1mln account. What you write there are pure facts yet you got mark as trollish. Wow, Just wow.. Omega is such a loser kid. You even up yourself with some bubbles I see.

N4WAH5636d ago

Omega you are full of it.
I personally own the Nyko Raven and you can swap the shoulder buttons but somehow I think you already know this.

The facial details look to be more on par with what you see on the PC than the 360.

I'm hoping these upgrades get passed on through to both the 360 and PS3 version of ME3. I do know that DA2 is definitely looking better on the console than the first game as well.

joydestroy5636d ago

PS3 owners shouldn't have been worried. there was no doubt in my mind that BioWare would mess it up.

xxBiG_BoSSxx5635d ago

that seems to be true. i wish all EA dev houses were as dedicated

Domer255636d ago

Congratulations bioware on a great port. Now i'm thanking you by buying this game on release.---

Da_Truth5636d ago

Now please support Bioware and get the game day one...we are quick to trash developers that make crappy ports so lets be smart and send a message by supporting this game even though it's a year late they made the wait worth it...

The_Ultimate_Guy5636d ago

Yup with the extra bit of time, they have polished it up to look just as good if not better ever so slightly.

What I found interesting is that they have actually taken out some of the mini-games.

Also the interactive back story is a pathetic replacement to actually experiencing the first game, making the decisions and establishing a relationship between the characters is second to non. Anyone who chooses to start a "trilogy" on the second episode and completely miss out on the most important part of a trilogy, THE BEGINNING, will never fully experience the true story a trilogy was ment to have been.

How good would the original star wars been if you only started watching since The Empire Strikes Back? How great would The Lord of The Rings been starting at The Two Towers?

If you have ANY interest in the Mass Effect story, which I feel EVERYONE should experience, then I strongly suggest getting the FULL experience playing either on the 360 or the PC.

rjdofu5636d ago

@All of those who said that PS3 ports were inferior because of the system: IN YOUR FACE :)).

Koolno5636d ago

How can it be possible since exclusives graphics are way better on ps3 ?

but even with a better port, 'im sure xbox's sites like lens of truth will give a "tie" for the 2 versions ;)

Scotland-Tha-Brave5636d ago

Xbox 360s best looking game looks better on the PS3 lol. That debunks the rubbish multiplat debate.

reckoner5636d ago (Edited 5636d ago )

But but but IGN is a bunch of fanboys who hate the PS3!

NYC_Gamer5636d ago (Edited 5636d ago )

the ps3 version seems to have updated graphics

Edit: http://www.youtube.com/watc...

^^^thats 360 gameplay...

the ps3 version looks more sharper/detailed from the ign video

trounbyfire5636d ago (Edited 5636d ago )

never mind i saw it

Christopher5636d ago

I'd categorize them both as TPS, only it took more traditional TPS concepts into the 2nd one. Specifically, what you hit was all based on skill rather than the roll of the dice as a check against any skill you may have with the weapon you're wielding.

It's still a fun game and is definitely more about RPG than TPS.

iPad5636d ago

I LOL'ed on the highest rated comment. All he did was mention multiplats and like one exclusive.

OhReginald5636d ago (Edited 5636d ago )

YES! YES! YES!! YES!!!!!

this is so EFFIN AWESOME!!!

*wipes tear*

trounbyfire5636d ago (Edited 5636d ago )

shouldn't this game get higher score than the 360 version because of the content on disk from the start plus the upgraded graphics.

hopefully the took out the planet dredging people hated

GOD is gametrailers the only sire to use HD for videos

colonel1795636d ago

I agree, but we all know it will never happen, especially from IGN.

trounbyfire5636d ago (Edited 5636d ago )

hell a 96 meta on ps3 is always a good thing but i feel like the media will give it the same score even though they changed things up and made it look better.

NecrumSlavery5636d ago (Edited 5636d ago )

They will basically bash the Mass Effect Digital Comic for being short, say the game is old. No one will talk about the updated visuals or gameplay. This is basically the GOTY Edition but they will treat it different cause it is on PS3. If there's a GOTY Edition on the 360, it'll still get a 96.

I bet you all that the PS3 version will sell more copies though.

Koolno5636d ago

@necrum

it's more difficult to have high score on ps3, because the competition is better, the standards highers.

trounbyfire5636d ago

@NecrumSlavery
on ign beyond a guy said it would sale less then 500,000 and i was like yeah in the first week. i am pretty sure ME2 on 360 sales were not high like halo so i think it could do well as well but need to get the word out

anast528d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine528d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast528d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman528d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast527d ago

Liam lol I can't stand that dude.

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave776d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan776d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave776d ago (Edited 776d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
