80 GB PS3's Backwards Compatibility: Not BC Enough

Sony's support website has just recently updated its backwards compatibility status check for the PlayStation 3. The search engine goes in detail to describe any major or minor problems in running any PlayStation game. Users are able to check on how the game will run on either the 60GB or 80GB version of the PS3, the latter of which uses software emulation, which worried gamers who thought fewer titles would play on the newer systems. Many glitches found in the newer emulation have been ironed out before the site was updated, but we've still found a few games that don't work quite as well on the 80 Gig model. Here are a few notable ones.

Tho im sure firmware updates well make more older games compatible with it.

neogeo6822d ago

only the 80gig model can run old games in true HD
not upscaled crap. emulation can be a great thing!

Ju6822d ago

That's BS. The 80gig model has the same GS (PS2 graphics chip) as the 60Gig model, only the cpu (EE) has been removed. Rendering is still done by the PS2 HW, the scaling is actually done on a post processing step and scaled and filtered to whatever resolution you're running. But there is no high def SW renderer (emu) built in - yet (and if it would, I am pretty sure, both older and newer models would use it, no matter if the HW is there or not).

nasim6822d ago

the 80 gig has been recently released and emulates games much better than the x360 --which can do just 53% of the back catalog.

ps3 owners are looking forward to new ps3 games starting with WOWHAWK and LAIR ---there is no time for ps2 games.

However SONY would release updates to make the 80gig more BC friendly

no big deal here

The point of the website is, to let people look up their title to check if those are running. Why do you post a sub-list here ? Are you afraid people here are to stupid to follow the link or what ?

sandip7876822d ago

actually Ju, im off to bed now and im also downloading and it saved me time for someone to post it on here, as long as the list didnt cover the whole thread. so thanks Hugh

As long as it helps to bring down the price, the mass market do not care

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle14d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy22d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
