Bioshock is a 9 or 10 out of 10, I think the game is amazing and its up their with Half Life and Halo. All of them being awesome games which everyone should play.

He is busting balls over review scores to the fact that there is no good explanation as to why this game received such high scores.

Most of the major reviews (that actually matter) are multiple pages of writing as to why they believe Bioshock is one of the greatest shooters of all time.

Yet this guy wants to give the game a 7 or an 8 and his whole explanation is only about 4 short paragraphs long.

Hmmmmm.... talk about lack of content in a review! And contradictory at that! Also, he thinks Space Giraffe is a better game.

Sure, its his opinion but that doesn't mean he is right!

Not to mention, this is a stuipid blog site!

no game is perfect, so i just ignored those websites that gave the game 10/10 scores, cause that just shows unprofessional behaviour by the reviewers...

Edit: lol just for the record guys (or fanboys), i finished Bioshock for the 4th time now, just to get all those achievments. I would give it a 9/10 myself, so next time think before you write some dumb comment, thx.

and to DrPirate yeah people definitely need demos, like now Lair for example, without playing the demo first i won't buy the game...

A reviewer is supposed to tell me if I will like the game. His opinion is of no use to me as a gamer. When a game comes out that is of the highest quality in graphics, AI, environmental interaction, plot, etc., then he should compare it with previous great games. His score should reflect that analysis.

So for me, that makes it an 11!

Yeah FPS can get off with good looks alone which is why Lair didn't get perfect scores by looks alone (not a fps). BioShock is a good game but I never did understand why it got the 10/10's but that's just me. I really liked hacking that was my favorite part of the game (a little more variety would of been nice but you can't get everything) but the wrench was the best weapon of the game and I'm not a fan of the no dyeing part. I was blown away at the start thought it was one of the coolest horror films but then I died (or really didn't die) and it took all the horror away.

Still have and love it but I believe the man when he says 8/10 which by the way is still an awesome score.

Hey, dude has an opinion, got to respect that. But opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one, and personally I think his stinks on this issue.

His review is so generic and shallow, as his only complaint is that the game isn't revolutionary. Just thank god his little rant isn't an official review at some respected site or mag, and belongs in the drags of the billions of useless blogs.

But regardless, I feel the same as him on many other games that got great reviews, like the Final Fantasy series or Guitar Hero, wouldn't waste my time on those rather medicore games. Yep, for lots of you, my opinion might also stink.

I kind of agree. It's a great game, but it's not "Gears of War" great.

...when you've hardly played it? The guy's gamercard is shown below his profile, and he only got 28/50 achievements while playing the game...which means he basically blew through it. You can't say a game is shallow, has poor storytelling, etc, when you didn't bother to play the game like it was meant to be played. He didn't do any researching to completion, didn't do any hacking, and didn't upgrade any weapons or abilities. I guarantee you he didn't bother listening to many audio diaries either. Hell, he spent more time/effort on sh1tty games like Full Auto, Superman Returns, and PoTC:AWE. Stupid people like this, are the reason truly great games often get overlooked. I bet he's never even played classics, like Psychonauts, Beyond Good & Evil, or Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath. What a jackass. :o

Bioshock was definitely the best game I've played this year (so far!!)

But I agree with Edge magazine's review which gave it 8/10.

Bioshock delivered great graphics and atmosphere, but I felt the first few hours were much stronger than the rest, and the game never quite lived up to the depth of something like System Shock series or Dues Ex.

In fact the game felt a bit too linear. Instead of exploring Rapture I was just being funneled from level to level. Also the Plasmids were fun to try but I wasn't compelled to vary their use as I found a combination which worked and stuck with it.

However, as I said... it was a fantastic game. Possibly even GOTY material - but for me at least it did not deserve the 10/10 scores... My personal score would be 89 or 90% max.

Do people with nothing better to do with their time want to release bad stories about games and consoles? I think Bio is great (still playing it) I never thought a 10/10 meant the game was perfect, yes I understand its a perfect score, but I always thought the score was meant to say that its one of the best games ever, an experience that shouldn't be missed. If Iam wrong someone please tell me what game is perfect?= Its impossible because its subjective so either a 10/10 just means that the reviewer is saying its one of the best gaming experiences he's ever had or NO GAME EVER SHOULD GET A 10/10, my major problem with Bio is that when you die you can still comeback to kill off Big Daddy and other enemies easily since their health doesnt reset to full when you start over= still the game provides plenty of challenge and the story/atmosphere draws you in so well the gameplay itself is rock solid with great graphics, so yeah its flawed, but why is it so much more fun than so many other games that I've played on any console?= its a great game=

So many mags gave Bioshock good review that it has to be good, and it really really really IS good. People who say it is just another FPS have not played it. Ok it is another FPS but there is so much more in it.

We don't need more Bioshock reviews or speculations of why it got so high scores. It got good reviews because it is good, as simple as that.

I don't agree with his review, but at least he backed it up with good reasons and his opinion seemed honest. There is always room for differing opinions on games. It's the fanboys that ruin these debates by not giving honest opinions.

The great thing about games is there is such a variety. A game that is great to me might suck to you - and vice versa. Nobody has time or money to buy and play every game. Buy the games that you like and forget the ones you don't.

I played all the way through Bioshock and would give it a 9.5 out of 10.

I think it was the best game i have played all year. It reeked of originality which is rare these days.

No game is perfect, i think we all agree on that for the most part.

when i game gets 10/10 i tend to take it that the game is not perfect but as good as it could possibly get.

i think there will always be little things that could be done better, but its when all those things come together and deliver an overall experience that you know if the game is a 10/10 or not.

the problem is that some things can affect that experience more then others. controls for example. Lair looks great but from what i have heard the controls let it down. I know Res-Evil 4 is an awesome game, but didn't enjoy it nearly half as much as i thought i would because i didn't like the controls at all.

i do think Graphics are important in games, but they won't frustrate you the way a bad control system can in a game. You will just look at it and think...ya it could look better or that looks crap.

if a game looks great, but the AI is crap (graw) or the controls are bad, it can really let down the experience.

You need to go by what you feel is right and for me, the game gets a 9/10. It has some fram rate issues, glitches and the wide screen issue bothers me a bit. That would be the few reasons for the deduction of one point but there is so much that keeps the score up at 9 for me. The game is great and was more than I expected. I loved System Shock 2 and this game was no dissapointment.

Tis obvious; the media wants to dampen the hype for Halo 3. Simple as.

It's a great game and perhaps it does deserve 10/10, but even if it didn't it would still get it to steal Halo's thunder.

I wouldn't give Bioshock a 10, either, because nothing is perfect. It is a masterful piece of gaming work, however, and if it is only a "good" FPS and deserving of an 8 or so, the remaining categories in art direction, presentation, sound, etc. easily push it well into the high 9s.

actually agree with him, I have played the game and was very disappoited with the game. I think it is a game that deserves about an 8.5. For those of you who are wondering I own a 360 (look me up on live) I just didn't think this game lived up to the hype.

At first I thought the game had excellent sound/graphics but that it was lacking plain old fun. After you get farther into the game though, it really is fun, I enjoyed playing through the Fort Frolic level the most.

people complain about games getting a 10 out of 10, but why have it as an option if every now and again a masterpeice came along and you werent allowed to give it a 10? its not perfect, nothing is, but is it a 9? no chance. God of War was universally a '9' game, (quite rightly may i add) and to suggest bioshock is only equal to it it ludicrous.

Movies and Music get perfect scores all of the time... so why shouldn't games?

I have played and beaten BioShock twice now. I still do not understand why it deserves a ten. It is a really cool game but that is not good enough for a ten. I just want someone to tell me why it is a ten. If a game has no replay desire I just can't really understand how it is a ten.

Well I only played through twice for achievement purposes. By replay I meant that thing that makes you play it over and over for days, weeks, months, years. So Rage, does it have that type of replay value?

revolutionary i dont think so. i just beat the game last night and loved it stabin the adam out of the last big boss was fun for sure. I dont know if its somthing i havent seen before. 8or9 out of ten is fair for bioshock.

Dunno.... It seems like he's promoting a game that could easily be summed up as a remake of an 80s arcade game over a stunning work of art.

I have Bioshock and I think it really does deserve the high marks it's been receiving. It has an original atmosphere. It's well written in story and in art style. It's something that no other developer has provided in sometime. A new setting. No WWII shooter with hordes of Nazis to shoot. No space marine/fighter fighting aliens/demons. It's actually original and it's well done.

I agree with the write up, although it would have been nice if the writer elaborated a bit more. The only truly "original" thing about Bioshock is the art-deco 1950s setting. And even that kind-of feels ruined to me because of the destroyed/decaying nature of the environments, which has been done to death.

The gameplay is basically a corridor shooter with FP RPG elements shoe-horned in. And the story turned out very predictable. It's like it goes from interesting philosophically motivated at the beginning to bog standard video game story at the end. And moral decisions...What moral decisions? The choice is kinda already made when they included an achievement for saving all the little sisters.

Yes, it is a brilliant game, but they made far too many claims. It most definitely does not deserve any game of the year award. Deus EX 2 FAR superior in my opinion, and I think Halo 3 will be alot more fun.

From what I understand through reviewers interviews and things of that sort. When a game deserves a 10/10 its when Dev's really suprise the reviewers. God of War, Zelda Orarina of time, Soul Calibur are really the only games off the top of my head I think would have the story, innovation, Design and the little extras to "Wow" Developers. I am sure there are a few more. I believe a perfect 10 is when Reviewers really get something they didn't expect. Hence games like Warhawk, Bioshock and yes... even Halo(Unless is really does offer the whole lotta extra they didn't know about) Probably don't deserve perfects. You can perfect aspects of games, Control, Story, Gameplay etc... When GoW first came out and you could see Ares in the distance. The sense of Scale for a PS2 game and the originality in combat as well as story and the adult nature of the game is seriously what made it a 10.

I know I will get neg feed back for saying anything bad about Halo but it is the way I feel. When I play it at 1220 am release night. I will see for myself. Quite honestly though it could easily deserve a 9 or 9.5 or even 9.9 but it needs that something that really makes people go. "Holy hell, I had no idea we'd see something like that" to deserve perfect. That goes for KZ2 when it comes out as well and anything else.

Back to bioshock. I have played it through both paths. The story was enthralling and If you look me up you can see my previous posts I wrote on Bioshock. It never deserved a 10. 8.5 is about what I would say. It didn't offer a lot of things I thought would have made it bad ass... Still it was fun and I came back to play it again. So its pretty good for sure.

Let me tell you why it's NOT perfect
1-Too Easy
*when you die you warp right where you left off.
*get lost just follow the arrow.
*use the wrench it's the most effective, no need to gather guns.
*too many tools that make it easy(plasma options)
2-Too Short
*you can beat this game in 5 to 8 hours (take your time Xbots and get your moneys worth).
3-graphics are nice (i.e. water)not gorgeous (like some people claim).
*choppy enmies, box shaped bodies.
4-Everything in this game is up high???
*are you playing the roll of a midget.
*you have to jump up to reach items.

It's funny how they can build a game, slap xbox360 exclusive on it and people call it perfect...It's NO killzone2 people...

It was a great game, but it played like every other FPS that I've played before. It was a relatively linear game: "Go do this." "Collect so many of these." ect. Looks can only get you so far. I've played it twice through mainly because of some achievements I missed and I wanted to see the bad ending. Also, whats up with the final boss fight? Some Big Daddies and even splicers were harder that Atlas. Come on 2K, I know you can do better than that.

I give all these Sony fanboys .01/10 for being such blind gamers. Seriously though, like previously mentioned, just because some jackass "blogger" creates an article and the blogger knows how to create a pretty web template. A blogger is just some guy who wants to write for a major publisher but can't cut the mustard...

The problem is that with theese xx/10 scores were used to 5/10 being an F, 6/10 being a D and so on. We don't think of an average game being a 5. We usually assume a 7 to be average. IF 7 is the "average" then that doesn leave much room to differentiate between games. So when a game is way above average (yet not perfect) it's gotta get a 9 or higher

Think about it, when was the last time a better than average game got a 6?

If ratings were based of 5 as average then F.E.A.R would get a 5, (average game but 5/10 appears to be a failure) Rainbow 6 Vegas would get a 6 (above average but 6/10 looks like a D) and Oblivion might get a 7.5 or maybe an 8 (significantly above average, but 75% appears to be a C)

If we really rated with 5 as the average then 9's and perfect 10's would be rarer. But in reality most rating systems are really just assigning letter grades, even if they are going by the numbers.

So when Bioshock get a 9.5 or a 10 the review is most likley implying that it's an A or A+ game which it is.

I love FPS games, played Bioshock but I got bored of it, very repetitive and it was not as difficult as I expected, killed 3 big daddys consecutively and even have enough life and money for killing a 4th or 5th, mmm, and that mini-game with the style of a NES game that was on the market like 20 years ago, well is not original (sorry I forgot the name of the game, but it was more challenging).

Another ponit is that there is no live game, I bought my xbox because I can play with my friends, also, killing doctors, little girls and idiot crazy people only because someone else is telling me to do it is not fun

Bio is worth going through the once and maybe a second time if you want to get both endings, but this game is actually quite forgettable.If anything i would give it a 7/10.Certainly not a bad game of course but no way is it a 10.

Game review is matter of subjection and we just use it as our guideline. Just give it a thought, Warhawk got 8/10 because it doesnt has single player/ or the use manual is useless. While Bioshock got 10/10 with no multiplayer, some glitch, and wide screen choping problem. So you get my point.

deserves a 10/10. i've yet to play or see any game that was perfect. even my most favorite games lacked elements that could have made them better.

Again I dont think a 10 represents perfection, hell if you read some of the reviews that gave the game a 10 they talked about something negative or that could have been better, a 10 just means its a great experience that no one who loves the genre should miss, imo.

Lair sucked and sonykids dont have any game scoring lots of 10's so they are bitter, of course they all think Bio deserved a 7, 8, 8.5/10= gee thanks for your input that means alot.

is okay. I played it at a friends house, and honestly, it was sort of boring. Not much going on in the screen as is the norm for 360 games. They are very lightly populated in order to hide the weak xbox360 hardware. Its a nice looking game, but its boring as hell, because not much going on. But the xbot zombies will buy into anything, and the crummy reviewers just jumped on the bandwagon on who can give it the highest score.
But, xbot zombies that buy into everything that MS says will enjoy is because they are brainwashed, like that fool NoBizLikeBlowBizz.

It was BioShock backlash. Anything that is stupendously good and popular is always going to be met with an “I’m going to disagree for the sake of disagreement!” attitude by some. BioShock is definitely one of the best games I’ve ever played, and certainly the best next-gen game thus far, so it deserves every 10 out of 10 it got.

I don't want to play Bioshock. Let me explain. I DON'T LIKE GETTING SCARED IN VIDEOGAMES ("We don't go to Ravenholm anymore", for d@mn good reason too). There is a part in the first Tomb Raider where I was swimming in the water and turned around to climb out and all I see is this unholy colossus of a Crocodile with its friggin jaws wide open (and I mean WIDE FRIGGIN OPEN) about to swallow me whole. This was more than seven years ago mind you. Never touched another Tomb Raider game since (also because they suck now). Demoed the one that was on 360 but thats it.

The latest video that I watched of Bioshock showing the first 20 minutes steered me clear of this game completely. What makes this so funny is that no other kind of Horror anything scares me.

This is very weird. I'm glad this came up. Now I wont knock or take ANYTHING away from Bioshock including the 10's but I just went on several sites and looked up Gears of Wars ratings and AMAZINGLY enough Bioshock topped it in scores.

Im sorry but Gears is just another war game that really is not very groundbreaking, set aside the graphics. Bioshock is by far one of the best games i have ever played and i have been playing and collectings games since Atari 2600. Anyone that bashes on Bioshock either knows nothing about games or just simply has not played it. Its ridiculous to hear people compare this game to Gears when they are 2 clearly different games. I like Gears but to me that game was much more way overhyped. I dont give a sh@t about the online play, that to me is boring. Bottom line: my wife plays this game. She hates FPS. She has played 4 video games in her life. The story and atmosphere make this game one of the best of all time.

Most people nowadays who care about reviews won't bother with a game if it's not above an 8/10, because the magazines and internet have pretty much built the system that way...if a game is getting below 8 it has crippling flaws....now what about the copycat games that don't really bring anything new to the table, but still have a tried and true formula? They tend to get low to mid 8's (i.e. Madden '08, DIRT, etc)...these games don't have flaws that distract from the experience, but they're not really fresh...

Now when a game comes out that has a new, different style, and is fun to play without any truly distracting flaws, you can't give it the same score as the run of the mill games, so you're forced to go higher. Unless you're set on picking it apart from the moment you start to play, and you don't even want to treat it like the game it is, Bioshock will pull you in....the key is to let it do that, be afraid of what's around the next corner, try to use the abilities and situations that game gives you, and you'll be so absorbed in it petty things won't matter as much. Explore, listen to the diaries, and try to understand Rapture..in movies and simpler games all the little details reveal themselves through cutscenes..in Bioshock you find them yourself, and if you don't, you're dumbing it down.. as long as you love any adventure/fps game, then it'd be difficult not to love Bioshock. If it's not fun, you probably don't like this genre of games.

The whole point of an adventure/survival game is to get into the experience. Bioshock gives you all the tools, so take your time, and figure out how to use them.

If you don't care about first person shooters and adventure/survival type games, then it's
not your place to criticize it. That's like saying Gran Turismo sucks because "I hate driving games."

That "extra something" in the rating system is the addictive power of the game...Bioshock is unique becuase it gives you so much choice in how to handle a situation you can actually make it boring by dumbing it down and rushing to complete goals and rack up kills just to get to the end.

Many games hold your hand and slow everything down so you can take it all in, but in this game you have to play like a person that's scared of what could be around the next corner would play...be the person who is trying to survive Rapture.. don't do it just because you want to see the ending or rack up gamerscore, because you're making the game worse for yourself.

Most gamers aren't usually into literature or the arts, so this will probably be lost on many of you, but one of the most important things I found about Bioshock is the way it digs into human nature and philosophy, and that in and of itself is very commendable in a world of gaming that is almost always either a mindless action movie or a straight from tv sports simulation.

That alone makes Bioshock revolutionary.

Video game scores, like movie and book reviews, are purely subjective. If it wasn't opinion, then every score would be the same if we used the same ratings scale. The fact that so many places are giving BioShock such high scores indicate that this is one hell of a game. There are always going to be people that agree and disagree.

Would I give this game a perfect 10/10? Probably not, but it's in the 8.5 - 9 range. Nevertheless, BioShock is incredible, and a Game of the Year candidate.

Thats your opinion, but i have to disagree that GEARS is the best title on the 360. Its up there, but not the best to me. I like it, i even own the collectors edition. That game was way too short, they couldve done alot more. The graphics were incredible and gameplay was great, but after awhile i found myself doing the same thing over and over. Duck and gun, thats it. That wears thin to me after awhile, Mario has a history. I can say GEARS is another shooter cuz it is, to say thats like saying Mario is another platformer is pretty funny. Mario has a history, GEARS DOES NOT! Mario invented the platformimg incase you dont remember or were too young at the time. I like GEARS but, just thought it was a little overhyped. I was very impressed with Bioshock because it really sucked me into that world. I mean the creativity that was put into that game was mindblowing to me. I cant think of another game that was similiar, an underwater city like that with such detail. Id like to see the PS3 come out with any kind of game like that, i just dont see that one happening. To me the 360 is the best system hands down. What frikin games they have, from GEARS to Bioshock. You cant beat this system!

A Bioshock film with cheap special effects? A hard pass.

Stop making films and start making series. You cannot cover this game in a 2 hour movie. Also the only live action adaptation worth watching was Yu Yu and One Piece, I can only trust in Netflix absolutely butchering this.

I remember that originally Gore Verbinski was going to do a BioShock film nearly 15 years ago, lol

The only time I like b-movies are when they are so bad they are good. Hopefully it’s in that category not just bad. Bioshock deserves better.
