Steamworks & PS3: Why it's important

Steamworks on the PS3 was announced at E3 2010. Irrespective of Gabe's blunder of not embracing the console earlier in it's lifespan, this is something that gamers should and will be excited about.

"Splinter Cell, Mass Effect, two of the Xbox and Xbox 360's biggest franchises are coming to the PS3."

Does the author of this article know more than we do? or did i miss the announcement of conviction coming to the ps3? Or is there a different splinter cell game coming?

Solans Scott5655d ago

I was thinking the same thing.

ExplosionSauce5654d ago

Isn't Conviction like the only Xbox exclusive Splinter Cell?
Maybe he was referring to the other Splinter Cell games and not Conviction. And if he did, he's probably mistaken.

RockmanII75654d ago

Conviction is staying 360 exclusive, but Ubisoft is making another Splinter Cell and that one is going to be PS360.

lochdoun5655d ago

Stupid article is stupid.
Splinter Cell was NEVER an exclusive franchise to Xbox, it's ALWAYS been on PC and PS. ONLY exception is Conviction.
What an idiotic flamebait article... how does this shit get approved?
And why is this filed under Xbox?

Cogan15655d ago

It doesnt matter if you think its flaimbait or not he is stating facts. All of MS best developers have left them, 2 of there best games are coming to PS3, Microsoft wants charge for free applications, hence why BBC iPlayer isnt on it. MS are in a losing battle and im glad for them because they really deserve it, nothing but a greed filled company that dont care about the gamers. A

Crytek & Epic better come up with something fast becuz MS is not announcing much!!! They need some fucking Xclusives from more devs or it's game over
!!

Don't worry, they'll Insert Coin.

They've got plenty of coins.

"Irrespective of Gabe's blunder of not embracing the console "

say what you want about gabe....but blunder of not embracing the console......

there are over 2.5 million people on steam right now and 30 million subscribers.....this man made no blunder....he is a fucking multi millionaire many many times over

he does not need xbox or ps3....it is an AFTERTHOUGHT

GarandShooter5654d ago

It's not an afterthought. Kids are growing up on consoles. There is NO GUARANTEE they will switch to PC gaming. It's hedging his bets and it's good business.

TABSF5654d ago (Edited 5654d ago )

I went from NES, SMD, N64, NGC, PS2, 360, PS3 and Wii.

When I was almost 18 I switched to PC, I only play consoles for exclusives and really this year its only been 4 exclusives from all consoles.

Still got all current gen consoles and the only 4 games was Heavy Rain, Crackdown 2, Halo Reach and Gran Turismo 5. You could also include Red Dead Redemption for PS3.

Also I only discovered Steam by chance no joke, I had The Orange Box on PS3 and wanted TF2, I got the PC retail version of TF2 and was WTF is with this Steam then everything changed :)

220 Steam games and counting in just under 2 years and I'm loving it. Gabe, Valve and Steam they are everything.

If anything Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft need Gabe and need to learn.

evrfighter5654d ago

Gabes racking in the cash by the ferry load. If that's a blunder then I hope to one day f*ck up royally.

Saladfax5654d ago

If all-digital content is the wave of the future, and by god there are plenty of devs that want to do it, then whoever has Valve and Steam in their corner has a helluva leg up on the competition.

I heard somewhere that Steam accounts for 80% of the PC digital market. This includes Direct2Drive, GoG, Games for Windows Marketplace (oh look, Microsoft is already failing there).

Pootangpie5654d ago

okey that's biggest load of a diarria to come out of the article ever

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing29d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9229d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit29d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing29d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9229d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
