Yes we do.

Kirby's Epic Yarn in HD on my 62' FTW!

<(^_^<)

piroh5653d ago (Edited 5653d ago )

where is darkcharizard? this news will make him happy

btw, i'm glad about this because i wanted to buy Wii but now i see i don't need any

Yi-Long5653d ago

... I never bought a Wii because it wasn't HD and was much too expensive to begin with, but I'd LOVE to play Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 and some of the other Wii classics in HD!

imvix5653d ago

@Yi-Long

You do realise the sort of specs needed on PC to emulate Wii in HD. I dont think it will be possible for the PS3 to Emulate the Wii in HD.

Yi-Long5653d ago (Edited 5653d ago )

... what kind of PC do you need to emulate the Wii in HD?

And if the PS3 manages 720p output Wii games, then that's more than good enough for me, TBH.

Don't really want to 'jailbreak' my PS3 though, but considering SCEE has been screwing us european gamers over for so many years now, I wouldn't feel bad about it either...

imvix5653d ago (Edited 5653d ago )

To play Wii games in HD i would atleast recommend at very fast dual core cpu something in access of 3ghz. Its taken ages for Dolphin emulation on PC to get upto speed. Lets wait and see how it turns out on the PS3. Even if it did happen, there are no gaurantees games will run at 100% speed or how long it will take to get those games upto speed if ever.

Youd be better of investing in a midrange PC then enjoying all your multiplat games in full HD and getting dolphin along with it.

Yi-Long5653d ago

... right now I have an old quad-core, 2,33 Ghz, 64 bits Vista, 4GB of RAM, and Geforce 9600GT with I don't know how much RAM.

It's an OK PC, but I need a newer and faster one...

Ju5652d ago

"You do realise the sort of specs needed on PC to emulate Wii in HD. I dont think it will be possible for the PS3 to Emulate the Wii in HD"

LOL. There is nothing in the Wii the PS3 can't run at least twice as fast. A 700MHz Gecko (or what that is now) - still a G3 core. Same as the 3.2Ghz PPU in the CELL. No binary emulation necessary. They are pretty much binary compatible. The RSX runs circles around the ATI Hollywood - I could imagine you could even emulate that thing with SPUs alone.

That would be hilarious, though. Incl. Move support. Running the Wii library in HD with a waggle controller. LOL. Let's see if Nintendo can release a Wii-HD faster than they can emulate it. ha ha ha

Substance1015652d ago (Edited 5652d ago )

@Ju

Sure the PS3 is far more advanced then the Wii, any hardware released within 6 years is. Emulation naturally requires more resources.

If the Cell is so powerful explain to us why Dreamcast emulation is only running at 7.5fps, sure it will improve with better coding however its in a piddly state at the moment no one knows if it ever will be running at fullspeed, same goes for the Wii.

http://www.ps3-hacks.com/20...

We know you are a biased PS3 fanboy, let the emulator be out no point further hyping the Cell till then.

Ju5652d ago (Edited 5652d ago )

Dreamcast: Totally different CPU architecture (SH4 risk chip - requires cycle accurate op code emulation), has a PowerVR GPU (the first and only which does tiled based rendering - requires sophisticated GPU emulation) while on the other hand GameCube/Wii uses the exact same PowerPC core (a G3 derivate - where the Wii/GC's version has some extensions - properly VMX/vector extensions), the GPU is a standard fixed function set GPU - no shader support. And while one is ATI and the other is NVidea, the fixed function pipeline with the much higher bandwidth in the PS3 still blows the Wii's ATI chip out of the water.

Emulation is always hard, if you have a totally radical different design (that is, different CPU architectures, for example).

Clockspeed sometimes is not relevant (in game consoles), latency is. Latency on an op code level. You need to synchronize the timing of the whole (!) machine throughout your emulation.

Emulating G3 opcode on a CELL is basically non-existent. It simply the same. The additional op codes need to be emulated - possibly with some sort of exception handling; and the challenge there is, if the latency of that exception handling is low enough to simply "attach" those to the rest of the system (otherwise you'd still need to emulate the CPU as a whole on a cell - but you don't need to translate most of the opcode).

Same for GPU. A tiled based gpu is complex in its own. Simulating this in SW is a challenge. Not so much with a fixed function pipeline. Especially if the GPUs are basically off the shelve products.

The remaining challenge in the Wii/GC is the EDRAM emulation which is a high bandwidth memory. But, this can obviously be solved. The PS3 has a higher memory bandwidth then most standard PCs thses days (only very high end machines exceed 25GB/sec).

That said, throughput is not a problem for the PS3 compared to a PC. CPU emulation is most likely not required and GPU emulation can most likely be ported straight from the PC.

Is that what you are asking me?

BTW: Most of the cpu emulations problems can be solve with a "JIT" (just in time compilation of opcode). However, this adds a lot of complexity to cycle accurate emulation and sometimes is not used in case of game consoles - the speed increase in such a case can almost reach native code levels of your target CPU. E.g. a 700 MHz PowerPC can be emulated with max frequency of say an intel chip and can behave like a say 3GHz PPC == faster than the original).

Oh, and one more thing. This PS3 based emulator would probably also be similar if not exactly the same on the 360 (you would want to take advantage of multiple cores vs. SPUs - but if it runs fast enough on one core and no SPUs it should basically be the same).

I want it.

I wouldn't need it though if I could find a damn sixaxis driver for vista 64.

Fishy Fingers5653d ago (Edited 5653d ago )

Do you mean make use of the actual sixaxis (motion) or just use the PS3 pad as, well, a pad? If it's the latter, google "Motionjoy". Works perfectly, very simple and can even emulate a 360 pad.

Oh and has official drivers.

Taz Yamauchi5653d ago

Just google motioninjoy64 and download the windows7 64bit one it should work well with Vista plus you can use a bluetooth dongle and connect to your pc wireless

JacobIsHollywood5653d ago

Getting Motion Joy to work on 64 bit Vista or 7 is nearly impossible, guys.

Ju5652d ago

Motion Joy runs just fine on my Win7 x64. With Bluetooth. You need to "patch" the OS to run unsigned drivers. This is explained on their website.

chainer30005653d ago

I'd love to be able to play Smash Bros, Zelda, Metroid, and Mario Bros Galaxy.

Other than that, yeah, I don't care. But I would love the emulator.

princejb1345653d ago

i highly doubt it
they be making up so many stupid stories about the ps3 these past few months
next thing you know some idiot would write a article like ps3 getting xboxlive

fatstarr5652d ago

i dont think a ps3 is poweful enough to emulate a wii... in hd settings and everything maxed out like on the pc

scar205653d ago

Don't need this crap i already have a wii and i rather support the developers.

Mahr5653d ago

To use the Dolphin you need both the original system and a legitimate copy of the game. You still support the developers; you just get to play your game at a higher resolution.

Soldierone5653d ago

If you still need a wii then whats the point, just buy Move titles.

Mahr5653d ago

"whats the point"

Since when do people need a point to do what they want with their own property?

@ below: "what if you dont want to buy a wii? (me) but would like to play a few wii games?"

I should advise you, this is not going to solve your problem. You are still going to have to buy a Wii -- you need one to burn the games to a disk that a PC/PS3 can actually read.

Lyr1c5653d ago

^ You don't need a Wii.

You don't need a legitimate copy of the game.

Torrents do everything for you.

I used to pirate until I realized how much it hurt the industry.

Now I buy everything new.

Mahr5653d ago

"Torrents do everything for you"

I suppose that if you do not care about the whole 'getting arrested' thing, then sure, that would be a viable option.

bananlol5652d ago

Getting arrested for personal use of torrents? In what police state do you live?

Mahr5652d ago

"Getting arrested for personal use of torrents?"

If by 'personal use of torrents', you mean, 'personally using torrents to illegally obtain copyrighted materials', then yes.

"In what police state do you live?"

Hate to break it to you, but the DMCA and the Copyright Directive apply to all 50 of the United States of America and the entirety of the European Union, respectively.

In what state do you live in where it is legal to steal videogames?

duplissi5653d ago

then buy the games... dur!...

just because its an emulator does not mean piracy... what if you dont want to buy a wii? (me) but would like to play a few wii games?

Jrome5653d ago

Super Smash Bros Melee

Yes...we need it

Malice-Flare5653d ago

if their "homebrew" gave us useful apps like a better browser or a better media player (that plays mkv) i would not have any objections. but all these emulators only produce 'piracy' for most of the time regardless of how noble their intentions are. they're just waiting for real consequences to bite them in the ass...

if an all-in-one device was what they needed, wouldn't a PC be more that sufficient for these emulators. surely, a cheap core 2 quad PC with a mid-range graphics card is enough to emulate every console there is to HDTV resolutions...

snipermk05653d ago

clearly, you don't know anything about emulation or emulators then. That's the kinda PC you would need to emulate a PS2 game. And that too rather POORLY.

chidesd5653d ago

good thing about Dolphin on PS3 is it would probably support 720 and mayb 1080 and mayb even the move so we might actually see the wii hd before 2012

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle26d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.

jznrpg32d ago

My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.

Smellsforfree32d ago

Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.

Loktai32d ago

Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
