I guess that was a lie. Nice to see the biggest summer blockbuster will be exclusive to HD dvd this Christmas....Couple that with the 200 and under HD dvd players that will be on sale at walmart...and you have a formula for extreme success.

P.S. When will the blu ray stand alones start selling? I mean really folks. Blu ray can't expect the Ps3 to carry them for ever. At the most the ps3 will sell 30 to 40 million in the next 6 years. And won't likely ever hit the 200 and under sweet spot.

I had to stop bye to congratulate owners of an HD-DVD player cause Transformers was practically my childhood, I saw it at the movies and it was perfect in my opinion and I would kill to have it on a Blu-Ray disc but I wont, so all I can do is give you congrats!

Just buy the DVD version. It's cheaper and it doesn't matter if you have a Playstation 3 or an Xbox 360, they both upscale anyway.

Transformers THE MOVIE owns all. This bullcrap american car liscense they had. Bumble Bee was a bug, Jazz was a porsche, Ironhide was a jeep, Devastator?? He's supposed to be like 8 stories tall... hes the god damn DEVASTATOR.. ah.. nice movie with good special effects, the the original owns.

I really enjoy how everyone complains about all the Blu-ray topics.. Yet here is an HD-DVD topic in the wrong category but no one complains. The poster clearly has the console war in mind by posting this in the 360 category. This is a tech related topic not industry (gaming) or 360. So since this topic has been mis-posted and mis-approved it's turned into a Blu-ray vs HD-DVD flame war.

The bottom line is that this is only one movie.. Do yourselves a favor and look over the lackluster releases Paramount has brought to HD. I don't care what format they support, their HD lineup is crap. While Paramount has some classics, I won't be missing them much.

To Blu-ray supporters that MUST HAVE IT, buy it on DVD as you can upscale it. Problem solved.

Okay Transformers, but that's just 1 movie. What about all the top grossing Disney Pixar movies? And Sony's Spider-man series. and Pirates of the carribean 3 coming this year.

I would hope this wins it for HD DVD, but it's just 1 movie. It will sell hot for a week or two.

spell doom ps3 and sony as an entity. on the contrary, all of the extra content thru the internet is more than a worthy purchase from me. blue ray aint sh!t, just look at all the extra content thru hddvd; who gives a rats @ss about lossless audio. I would pay $100 for transformers if the cost was that steep because its worth it.

Just buy the DVD and let your ps3 upconvert it or even regular dvds now also upconverts the hell with hd dvd

I keep seeing people say " Boo, it suckz majr a$$! No lossless audio!! HD-DVD suckz a$$!! Die, HD-DVD!!!!" Can anyone say what makes Blu-ray so much superior to HD-DVD? Because the only difference that i see between them is one is $200 - $400 cheaper to buy (yes I've seen them both numerous times in Best Buys and Circuit Citys all along the Eastern coast of America (the stores that I remember that always demonstrated it anyway).

Samsung will be making HD DVD players soon and believe me if they sell other companies will follow. Since when does price determine quality, just because HD-DVD is cheaper doesn't mean the picture or sound will be of lesser quality than Blu-Ray. The problem is the average shopper when looking at Blu-Ray and HD-DVD side by side won't see any significant difference between the two and believe me most will chose to go with saving money than paying more for same picture quality. Face it Americans like to save money especially with the price of everything going up. Now if the difference between the two were like normal dvd compared to Hi-Def DVD than they wont mind paying a little more because the difference is obvious, but as it stands to the average consumer there isn't enough of a difference to warrant almost paying double for Blu-Ray.

There are other blu-ray players made by other companies and contrary to popular belief they are not Sony clones or made by Sony. Sony has some stake in the discs themselves but the Hardware is not.

There was a dumb comment above that said that the only people who want HD DVD dead is Sony Extremists. What a stupid ignorant comment. The same stupid comment could be said against HD DVD supporters who seem to be made up of mostly Sony Haters and open source freaks.

Consumers are smarter these days than years past (probably tired of getting screwed). Consumers are not fooled by the Cheap players from HD DVD camp that are mostly HDMI 1.2 and lack a lot of features. When you compare apples to apples hardware wise Blu-ray players and HD DVD players are very closely matched in priced with Blu-ray players edging out in quality and features while HD DVD players might save you a buck or two.

Plus Paramount just doesn't have that much clout and Transformers is not a system seller but it is a good movie.

If the news about the switch had come from Disney not Paramount then yes, perhaps we would see a major blow to the Blu-ray camp.

Imagine all the loyal Paramount fans who were/are buying blu-ray players because the market is leaning in that direction buy thought they were safe because the market was good and Paramount was supposedly nuetral. Its not Blu-ray people are ticked at its the Movie Studios and their wishy washy business practices. Blu-ray camp are no angels either but consumers are smart enough to tell who has the better marketing strategy.

If people think Blu-ray Association has even started a price war for hardware think again. Only Toshiba and company have played that game and still haven't slowed blu-ray down. Blu-ray threw in a few free movies but hardware wise they haven't even begun to fight.

Just wait for Christmas. If needed Blu-ray group will strike then and you'll see a flood of low cost Blu-ray players and HD DVD is already stretch way to much won't be able to stop it.

I give Paramount a year and they'll come back to the dark side. Besides, Transformers is not really that desperately needed. Shrek the Third would do better and it is part of a series of movies and people like series.

I think this movie is massive, if this doesnt sell well on hd-dvd i cant see anything selling well this is one of the summer blockbusters along with spiderman, shrek the simpsons etc.

If this doesnt sell alot or encourage people to buy hd-dvd then their in trouble spin it how you like, but if they cant sell one of the biggest movies this year well then their is a problem

They both have more competition than DVD had in the late 90's. All I hear is BD or HD dvd and to really face it none of them will hit big with the masses. Maybe not until they hit 100. Not 200 or 300. But lets face it having both on the market hurts cause the hardcore are split. But in todays war its split with Sony PS3 supporters and MS supporters. They alone wont win the format war and it will just stuck with both being on the market for a while. While downloading HD movies start to rise even more. (including VOD from cable companys or vod on satillites) O well MY money is with downloading movies. The world is changing to flash memory and large Terra byte Hard drives. I myself dont care for physical media anymore.
As for this thread about Transformers. I think for me I will only buy 3-4 movies a year but other than that, physical media is old school.

people who support sony and or bought a Ps3....feel very threatened by HD dvd and all of its recent successes...They hate it with a passion. The last thing they want is HD dvd to win the format war...it then makes their purchase of the ps3 look like a flop. Which is silly because they still have a few exclusives to look foward to regardless. They just defend Sony with all their hearts...They love Sony to the point of obssession. Its sad really. They seek and destroy any positive articles about HD dvd or the xbox 360...they feel threatened and insecure about their purchase so they bash anything that competes or is better than what they choose. To the point to where they are even in denial about 360 games.

Me personally, I own all systems and enjoy all systmes....I do prefer the 360 but only because of the time spent with all systems...the 360 is clearly a better video game console than the Ps3 and the Wii. I could care less about sales of consoles or which format wins....I just want and play great games...

Just play games. This site isn't news for playstation fans or news for xbox fans....its News for Gamers. Lets all be gamers and enjoy this next generation of games and stop being so defensive and childish....Of course we all want the format war to end soon. And I have a feeling after this christmas we will have a more clear winner.
