Jaffe Confirms Server Lists for Twisted Metal

This morning I asked David Jaffe (the co-creator of Twisted Metal) if the new PS3 iteration would have old school server lists for mulitplayer or new school matchmaking? Server lists have been very popular for more hardcore multiplayer games, i.e, Socom and Counterstrike. But with the Halo's and the Call of Duty's being so popular with their "matchmaking" option, I wondered what Twisted Metal would have.

Much like Warhawk, which, by the way, still has a strong community after 3 years.

Big fan of Twisted Metal, online is going to be amazing.

get ready for that one OP weapon/car that everyone hates lol

i hope they bring back the button combos for the special moves like jump/ice missile

left right left right UP! seee yaaaaaaa

I wish every game had server lists. Especially a game like Call of Duty so I wouldn't have to play on some crappy or small map that I didn't want to.

Not that it wasn't already before, but Twisted Metal is becoming a day one buy even more.

@soundslike

I'm sure that they confirmed the removal of combos. They are now mapped to the controller for easier use

mugoldeneagle035661d ago

And maybe this is just the SOCOM fanboy in me lashing out, but I love picking where I want to play and which game. I know it's slower and more of a pain sometimes, but you run into a lot less problems gameplay & player wise than you do in matchmaking. And it's a lot easier for your friends to join, especially if party systems don't work until they're patched

Darkfocus5661d ago

It would be really sweet if he made it mod capable like unreal 3 too. Mods plus dedicated servers=epic win.

NegativeCreepWA5661d ago

I think games should use both, matchmaking for ranked games and a server list for custom match's.

Does anyone think that picture is pretty awesome.

His eyes say 'Yeah I caused the snow, got a problem with it'

... I don't know man, He looks pretty pissed off to me. lol

DoomeDx5661d ago

Its snowing over there!
sorry, offtopic.

matchmaking just streamlines the most generic game modes...

since its twisted metal I would imagine theres plenty of match settings to mess with, weapon pickups, max players etc.

having both options, matchmaking and lists, seems ideal though. Can't wait to see how this game turns out.

Wow cyberpunk is a great pick up. If you haven’t played it you should definitely give it a try

Christopher324d ago

Banishers was dragged down by the need to go back to old areas multiple times.

GhostScholar325d ago

Also if you bought it at launch and couldn’t deal with all the bugs it’s a totally different game now

stupidusername324d ago

Played it on release and thought it was a mess. But I'm currently playing it again now on both PS5 and Switch 2 with cross save progression, and it's really different to how I remember it. Really enjoying it now, and it's really polished and immersive.

Despite owning the 2077 One X console and the steelbook edition of the game... i still have never played it. I may actually give 2077 a try (via the portal) as there has been so much talk about it again, thanks to SW2 and now this comparison vid from DF. https://youtu.be/SvGQik3m6a...

dveio325d ago (Edited 325d ago )

I think it's an okay decision or happening.

iirc, wasn't there even a new and probably last update coming soon announced recently?

I've never played 2077, neither. (I am still a bit mad about their ... well, anyway.)

But I think it can't get better to play that game, or any game for that matter, in a 100% complete, fully updated build.

DivineHand125325d ago

Cyberpunk and Risk of rain 2 are the best of the bunch. Not a bad month if you are one of the few that haven't played those games.

yeastori325d ago

Cyberpunk is probably one of the best games I've ever played, even when it came out with all the bugs and glitches and broken gameplay on consoles, I still loved it at its core because the world was exactly what I wanted in a dystopian vision of the real future and the story was actually well done and compelling. With the fixes and then Phantom Liberty I just knew that this game could've been GOTY winner if it hadn't been released too early and released on PS5. XBX and two years later.

shinXseijuro325d ago

Might give cyberpunk a chance now that the game redeemed itself . Is it only the basic game or with the newer content ?

xHeavYx325d ago

According to the article, it's just the base game, but the DLC will be 30% off

TM3 is my favorite but I'll take what they bring out gladly. Fun times back in the day and great soundtracks

Cacabunga607d ago

Last one on ps4 wasn’t good at all.
Hoping for some good reboot or remake of the first 3

Dagexon607d ago

You mean the one on ps3?

Cacabunga606d ago

Yes i do, thanks! I realized too late couldn’t edit

Lego 2K Drive features an exciting mode called Brick Brawl, inspired by Twisted Metal. Players can create, share, and upload various cars, including ones like Sweet Tooth. The game boasts thousands of custom cars, ranging from the Batmobile to the Sweet Tooth ice cream truck.

InUrFoxHole607d ago

Never understood the like for the series. Not my bag but I know a lot of gamers are clamoring for a new game and liked the TV. Series

TiredGamer607d ago (Edited 607d ago )

TM1 and 2 are time period classics. They were a bit rough, ugly, and grungy, but they felt right during the time period they were released and they scratched that early console “death match” itch before FPS games would completely swallow that market.

Many great memories with friends playing couch co-op and 1v1. Short, and quick-and-dirty gameplay that we returned to over and over. I’d buy a remake or proper remastering of the first two games day one.

InUrFoxHole607d ago

Lol, nice! I remember having the tiger handheld or watch..

FinalFantasyFanatic606d ago

I played those so much as I kid, I bought the Twisted Metal games that were on PSN as Playstation Classics, wow, they feel clunky by today's standards, they could really use the remake/remaster treatment.

UltimateOwnage607d ago

Twisted Metal: Black is when the series really hit for me. I still love that game so much. It was kind of downhill for the series after that IMO. I'd love to see the series go back to its roots, but I don't hold out a lot of hope for David Jaffe coming back from where he is these days to oversee development of a competent sequel.

Snookies12606d ago

Black was the pinnacle in my opinion. I adored TM1 and TM2, for sure. But Black brought it to a whole new level of awesome.
