'racing fans. Your Opus is here. Enjoy it'...cannot agree more with the sentiment...and I'm not even a racing fan. The fact its like an RPG in formula is why I think I, who doesn't really go for racing games, is enjoying it so much. I love meaty games where you're dropped into a game and don't know where to even begin.

I love the game but don't agree that it is 10/10 material. The lack of consistency in the visuals across the different courses and some of the small details need addressing before its worthy of a perfect 10.

In terms of gameplay the AI would need a major overhaul before single player would attain a 10 also.

For me, its a 9.5/10. I'm loving it but it's by no means perfect and feels a little undercooked on a couple of fronts.

my wife called GT5 a "carpg" which i think sums it up nicely.

i can't afford to buy it right now, but i just might. that photo-sharing thread on Neogaf sold me on the game.

any company that takes that much effort to painstakingly recreate a single motor vehicle, let alone 200 of them, deserves my respect and support.

Gran Turismo is a superlative DRIVING series. it really does have no peer. there are certainly other fantastic RACING series out there, but there isn't a series about driving like Gran Turismo.

i emphasize the driving and racing, because they are rather distinct when Gran Turismo is concerned.

other games in the "Racing" genre, focus on that: the racing. they are trying to put the player in control of a powerful vehicle, and let them handle it with little difficulty. not many of us could just hop into these super cars in the real world and take to racing upwards of 200MPH and take the gold. but many racers like PGR, Forza, Burnout, NFS, etc, do just that. and that's not a BAD thing at all.

Gran Turismo differentiates itself from those experiences by focusing on the DRIVING part of the "Racing" genre. the series is more about applying real world physics, handling, and precision to the video game space, and letting gamers get a fell for what it's REALLY like to take a 90 degree turn in a car that ways a few thousand pounds with a LOT of horse power under it's hood. it's NOT easy.

gearheads will appreciate Gran Turismo for it's reverence of motor vehicles. casuals will more than likely lament it for it's lack of pick up and play game play game design. the rest of us will, at the least, marvel at it's beautiful visuals, and some of us will pick up the game and enjoy it for what it brings to the genre, or dislike it for the same reasons.

i've never been a fan of GT, but i've never hated it. i've always sort of admired it from afar. i DID buy Gran Turismo 3 back in the day, but that was when i was under the impression that it was "just like any other racer," and i was in for a rude awakening. i kind of regret giving up on it back then, because now i think i have a great appreciation for what Polyphony Digital was trying to do with the franchise.

they've kept their eye on their vision, and they know that not everyone will share that vision. kudos to them for sticking to their guns. they know their cars. they LOVE their cars. GT5 speaks volumes to that devotion, and i understand that it's just not for everybody, but who said that it HAD to be?

it is a great game deal with it

NOT really related. . .but, where are all the gt haters? I mean, there were plenty of morons coming to crash our party when all the Halo review were coming out. "Halo is overrated", "Wait 'til GT. . ", etc. People claim that the only people who play Halo are little kids and morons. People also know that internet trolls are little kids and morons. So where are all the 14 year old Halo loving trolls who come to crash your party when you get a good game?

Now that Jim Ryan is gone just need to remove Herman Hulst from his position! And maybe give Shuhei the position he deserved.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

So now there's certifiable proof that Ryan was in fact "fired", as opposed to when it was first announced that he "retired", in order to save face.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
